For example, Montenegrins. They were serbs along the coast, until the turks conquered serbia, and left montenegrin serbs alone. These serbs which couldn't really be with the other serbs, became it's own identity.

Montenegrins created their own identity out of the balkan mess of the 1990s. What was done 100 years ago had nothing to do with it. Especially since ethnic nationalism didn't even EXIST at the time of the Ottoman Empire. That disease is a slavic one.
