I am fighting the Americans because I refuse to flip the cities. They have like 5 riflemans and almost 10 cannons. While they are still on Resonance Era, I am on Industrial Era and I am able to build anti-tanks and artileries but takes 20 turns to build even one. It's only been a few turns since they spawned. I don't have a huge army in north america so what is a good tactic to counter the americans?
Thank you :D

Heh... aren't French tips like some kind of nail polish thing?

Anyway, I think your best bet in this situation is to build what you can, defend, and hope they go away.

The best cure is to avoid the problem altogether. I usually build New Orleans and Chicago and another city just north of the Canadian border, give them plenty of culture (a great artist in Chicago will do the trick), and when the Americans appear they're usually so in awe of me (and the French unique power of entente) that they spontaneously vassalize to me. I once had the Americans found Toronto as their capital because when my Chicagoan culture rebounded in 1736, the Americans got sent to the closest uninhabited land north.

Short of that, if you want to keep New York or Boston or your Florida city, you should declare war on the Americans even before they found Washington. (it is possible to crush them with about 8-10 well-promoted infantry and some cannons sacrificed) Evacuate your troops in the flip area after the 2nd move so that they won't desert. Allow the flip and then use your cavalry to recapture the cities on the 3rd turn, and these troops won't flip.

Either:

Just stomp them when they spawn.

Or

Agree to the flips after evacuating your troops from the cities. Then declare war immediately and retake the empty cities (before the Americans walk from Washington) using cavalry.

Not as good as if you declared war even before they found their first city. That way they don't get free troops and yours won't desert when they enter the "disputed" areas.

It takes 2 turns for a galleon or transport to get to Washington and get rid of the threat. Btw why bother warring them ?

While I agree it is best not to get into this situation, I think you have 2 sollutions:

Abandon your american colonies if you do not have the force to hold them. I am allways supprised how poor the AI is at waging war, so you will not need much force to hold them, so you may manage with what you hae and what you can build.

I assume they take 20 turns becuase you only have france and that has no production (but lots of food). The way to convert food to hammers is slavery. If you are not in slavery, revolt to that and whip your army. I would not prioritize anti tank and artys, I would build infantry and airplanes. You could use money to buy your army as an alternative, esp. if you have lots of cottages.

I think this is excellent advice; stick to historical 'New France' (and hey, why not? So many wonderful locations for your cities) and Quebec so you don't have to worry about the American flip and then just do as AP says.

New Orleans, Quebec, Ohio Valley, and those sections beside them right?

When I've won on France I've built New Orleans, Quebec, Fort Rupert, York Factory and Milwaukee. That satisfies the UHV condition and they will never flip to the Americans. I always build Theatres, Librarys and Courthouses first to expand my culture so the Americans always end up as my
vassal. Very satisfying.:D

I remember my French Space Race game where New Orleans and a city on Missisippi (Fort Pierre, I think?) had built all the parts while mainland France was busy defending from attacks of Spanish and Germans.
