Hi Ninakoru ;
Did I understand you right ? Everything got translated into Eng. , otherwise the patch works fine ?
I'm asking beqause I finally got someone to bring me a game from Bankok only to find it's a Thai version ...
The manual is just a bunch of squiggles :( , oh well , I can live with that as long as I can use the patches/mods .
Haven't installed it yet 'cause I'm busy playing my first regent game on the pirate copy that introduced me to the game .
Hey , don't flame me please , I ordered the real thing as soon as I realized what a great game it was .

Yeah , thanks Lt. Killer . Am happy to say it (seems) to have installed OK and plays w/out any problems , so that's one hurdle overcome ...;)
Now to see if the patch takes ...:(
I know this will have some of you rolling around on the floor , but I'm VERY new to this , so ... I download the patch to where and then ...???:o
O.K. so it's probably in a thead somewhere but there are SOOO many and my connection is super slow ;please help

There's actually a question in that post! It took me some time to see it, but here we go:

-download the patch
-execute the file you've just downloaded
-the program asks for the location where you've installed civ3. You must direct it to the directory where your civilization3.exe is

Succes!

Thanks Shabbaman :king:
I've got the patch , but was too impatient waiting for a reply , so started a new game ; and it's going great ..., will be my first regent game , and it's looking promising for a win so guess I'll have to wait before "executing" :D
Have some serious executing to do in the game first .

Here's a question I've not run across yet. If a mod/scenario comes with a map, is it possible to start a new game based on that mod without the map or a different map? Conversely, is it possible to start a scenario that doesn't come with a map with a specific map?

Or do I have to go into the editor and just edit the mod there?

<part of the reason I ask is because I am in the early stages of designing a mod --read: waiting to receive PTW for Christmas-- and want the players to be able to use both a special map I create and random maps. I may just create 2 *.bix files, one with no map, then then do a save as and add the map>

--edit--
This all presumes that my loyal followers save this as a scenario (it will seriously change the game, so should be a scenario), rather than the default *.bix

On the second question, the PtW ini file in the Civ3PTW folder has the World Seed number of the last game that you played, so you could generate a new map in the editor using that World Seed number.

You can also go to scenario properties and unselect 'custom map'.
Save the file as something else (so you can keep the original map if you want). If custom map is selected, then the map is used. If it isn't selected, then you will get to select your land mass/type when starting games and get computer generated maps.

HOW DO U PLACE THOSE SPECIAL ww2 , JAPANESE ADN DINO UNITS ON THE SCENARIO MAP!!!!!!!!!!

ok.....i guess everyone just ignored me........i am trying to make a ww2 scenario for ww2 in PTW, but i cant find a way to be able to find and place the new ww2 units in the editor adn place them on the map, can someone help me?

stalin006: meanwhile, I have tried the editor a bit. I still don't know it, but I do know now that you need to choose 'custom rules' so you can edit the rules. Then, you should be able to change the rules to include the units as in Civ3 with new units. I'll play around with it once I ahve some time.

That's what I was planning on doing. Something like "myscenario.bix" for the rules with no map, and then save as "myscenariohugemap.bix" and create custom map to go with. Then bundle them all together. I was just hoping that there would be some trick that allowed you to open a specific map without using a different .bix or .bic. Didn't think there was, though.

A scenario question: How do you place units on a map?
I've seen scenarios that people have built and they have set the locations of units on the map - how is this done? It seems straightforward enough to add resources or terrain but what about units????? Thnx in advance.

you have to select a player first I think. This you cna do by selecting 'Scenario-->custom player data', then clickin on the 'set active player# button. Then, choose 'select unit' os 'select town'....

After a lenghty time with the search button, I post my question here. (Somehow I feel defeated ...)

ANYWAY-

Regarding the SDI wonder. I am finally getting a game into the modern era (usually I win- or lose! by early industrial, so SDI has been a moot point).

The editor shows that it "reduces success of MISSLE attacks by 75%".

Is this ICBM only, or Tactical Nucs as well? AND- does it have any effect on cruise missle attacks?

I presume the effect is "civ-wide" ie not just in the city where the SDI wonder is built, OR, it it in just cities with SAM sites??

Thanks all.

edit: My goodness Dannyevilcat, I finally made it! TIme to get that pic out and work on it ... Yet another Destroyer of Furniture is afoot ...

SDI: in my experience, it is nationwide, has no effect on cruise missiles and doeen
t help against tac nukes (but I was tac-nuked only once).

Thanks, "Killer"!

Anyone else have expereinces suggusting either way regarding SDI- 75% defense against Tac Nukes or not effective AT ALL? As Killer suggest, a single successful Tac Nuke attack doesn't mean it (SDI) is ineffective, and multiple successful (Tac Nuke) attacks increase the likihood that it (SDI) IS ineffective, but the ony proof that it is IS effective is successful intercepts (Failed Tac Nuc attacks). I guess you can't prove a negative??

Anyone with SDI see successful Tac nuke intercepts ie failed tac Nuke attacks where you have SDI?

Thanks all.

Hey Lt. 'Killer' M. i have the same question as archimedes and i did what u told him to do and the icons for placing unit's or towns weren't at all on my toolbar for the Civ3ditor. Would u happen to know whats wrong?

Hey Lt. 'Killer' M. is there i new Civ3editor? because i am missing a couple other icons on the toolbar shown on your answer to archimedes? If there is where could i find the download for this?

A question for the forum: Does the AI see your unit placements through fog of war?

I was in a game where Korea sends its ironclads to destroy my improvements. I have almost all the coastal tiles covered with impi, muskets, knights, and rifles. The ironclads appear at my cultural border and make a bee-line to the few unguarded tiles in the bays. How do they know exactly where to go?

Apologies if I missed a previous post on this topic.
