yes, the AI knows where all units are on the map, also where the resources are and so on. but they are programmed not to make it too obvious....

also, they cannot see improvements - until they get your map.......

I've never mobilized befor, but in this current game there is no other option. I read the article in the war-academy. But I didn't understand some things completly:
1) I'm building non militaristic wonders, if I mobilize I can continue to build them. Only when there complete I get the restrictions , right ?

2) Is mobilization turned off automaticly when a peace-treaty is signed ? I'm mobilizing against The Ottomans, but I have 4 other nations at war. With 2 of them I'll sign a treaty soon.

I would test these things myself, but the game is at a turnpoint and I don't want to ruin it by testing something and then needed to reload because it was a really bad decision.

Henry_X: yep, you cannot SELECT non-military things, but you can finish them.
yep, any peace treaty will set mobi back.

More about that all-seeing AI:

I was nearing the end of my Zulu vs Korea game last night. They declared war so I unleashed my nukes (use'em or loose'em). I was suprised to find that they had nothing to counterstrike with immediately, since they rushed to build the Atomic Bomb wonder many years before. Surely the AI didn't build a bunch in the 2 cities I was able to hit.

A few turns later they nuked my best city, of course. I expected that and was mopping up when they nuked it again! Why would they nuke a size<12 city when there are plenty of 20+ cities around, including my capital?

I suspect that they knew it was still the biggest shield producer, due to FP and Ironworks. I suppose they could know that fair and square from espionage, though I never caught a spy. However, it smells like something is rotten in Seoul.

I lost a bunch of workers in that second strike, but it didn't matter. I finished the laser party lounge and launched on the next turn. Pity - I had 2 more nukes on the launchpad that turn also.

Is it just me or is PTW harder?

alamo: PTW IS harder - I get a good run for my money in ancient and middle ages now on monarch fi several AI have better starting pos. Later on they simply have more troops then in Civ3.

In response to the question about the SDI vs. Tactical Nukes, it does work against them. I've never had the AI use a TacNuc against me, to the best of my knowledge, but I've had several of mine shot down, including one I was using to try to destroy a full enemy transport headed for my shores, which was well away from their territory. Nuclear war works best when you have SDI and they don't. My two remaining opponents in one game caused terrible global warming with a MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) campaign because they had each destroyed the other's SDI. I picked up the pieces and won the game a few turns later.
I've noticed that the AI is sometimes judicious in its targeting with nuclear weapons. In one game, they struck cities of mine which had aluminum in their inner radius, and kept me from being able to build new missiles and modern armor for a bit, until I repaired the damage.

TOO MANY CITIES

My own question: what's the maximum number of cities that can be built on a map. On a new PTW huge (362x362) Earth map I created, I hit the maximum at around 250 BC when there was still plenty of room for expansion. I was disappointed.

Question: What is required to move to the next age?

I often wonder about this as I am approaching the modern age and worrying about the UN wonder.

There are a few dead-end techs that you can skip and still move to the next age, right?

So what does it take - all but the dead-ends?

This should be added to the Tech Tree in the ref section.

You need to have all but the dead ends. The dead ends are clearly identified in the tech tree.

if there is a circle with a line through it in blue on the top right corner of the tech then you don't need it.

Ok, thanks Ronald.

It would be nice if there were partial lines leading to the next age on the right-most techs that are not dead'uns.

Read the site Rules; obey them. Post on-topic. Other than that, nothing special about it. ;)

Welcome! :)

Omnipa: welcome!

I am currently working on testing out the MP bugs, features and other stuff - it was very nice of you to post your experiences. The are exactly what i arrived at, especially that one shouldn't use gamespy arcade to host/join games.

About the site civ game: it is called GOTM (Game Of The Month) and has its own forum. Every month, there is a new 4000 BC savegame and all participants play from this same start.

Have fun!

Hey, jbadger, thanks for the answer to my long ago post on SDI and tac Nukes!

DO I understand you correctly- you were shooting Tac Nuks at ships at sea and apparently SDI successfully defended? Wow. I though it only worked when you shot at cities ... ie like SAMs, sorta. Wow. THANKS for the info!!

a stupid question, as I can surely find an answer somewhere.
is the air superiority bug fixed in 1.29? can the fighters now protect the bombers from enemy fighters?

Amask: AFAIK: yes, it is fixed! But I ahve never seen it working as I never used Fighters and was attacked by bombers - since the Ais know where my fighters are. in that respect it definately works: where I have to Fighters on CAP the AI doesn't bombard with bombers.
