Can the Freaky Free threads get lumped and moved into their own spot like the quickie games? It would be easy. Also, could you make a sticky out of the Power Time Line thread (Idea for automatic doc generator)?

I have not been sticky-ing the PTL thread because I hope we are getting close to functional option there and do not really want that announcement to run through the concept development thread.
We have already been drafting some major news announcements and other info to go with the PTL and to acknowledge the great work the Spiderzord has provided use there.
The key point with the PTL really is to get the scoring fucntions working well enough for that to be the cool tool that it really will be. I know we are close.
The FFFF threads will find their own level within the discussion hierarchy and today is sort of a Special thing.

I have exclusive contact with the other continent and have 7 healthy knights next to the last city of a Civ (call them the Pink) on my contintent. That city has only a single spearman. Before I complete the kill. I've got a question:
If I sell contact with this soon to be extinct Pink to the other continent AI's,
1. Will they get pissed (rep hit) when I destroy the Pink?
2. Will they have a chance to contact the Pink and trade for other contacts on my home continent?
3. Will the Pink have a chance to sell the contact to other AI on my continent?

Oh, that's odd. You could certainly ask such questions (in a disguised form, so no one knew it was GOTM) in the newbie thread in General Discussions, I would think.
Anyway, it feels strange to answer a question on someone's competition game in progress, but since they're not directly strategy questions, here goes:

Actually this example is one of those cases that may be alittle to close to the target and gets to one of those basic questions issues.
"Is it your intent to ask basically what you should do in your current game?"
Fundamentally, we have provided you with bonuses and a selected start position so that you can experience some of these choices and see what will happen. If your intent is to have someone help you find the information that you seek in an existing strategy article such as "The AI Attitude Guide" that already exists then ther would be a way to ask this question and still keep your honor in tact.
If your intent is to asks questions about a specific existing game situation in the current game so that you can decide what you should do, then you are probably crossing into the slightly pregnant zone.
It is OK to take a break from that game and seek out existing information that will help you deal with situations that may be new to you. It does not feel quite Kosher to attempt to create new information from external sources to help you deal with a specific situation that may end up making you look more competitive in the game than you might have been on any other basis.

Is asking how the game works any different from saving your existing game, starting up a new game where you create the same position, and seeing what happens in that other position? The latter would be fine, right?
I guess I think asking questions about how the game works in a particular situation should always be fine (as opposed to asking for advice on what to do, which wouldn't). But cracker gets to make the rules, of course.

I have completed GOTM 20. I lost unsurprisingly, however, I don't know who I lost to or how? Does anyone know how I find this information out? From inspecting the map I know it wasn't Conquest or Domination and there was no UN vote so it wasn't diplomatic. That leaves cultural or spaceship.

JamesL, I can only offer a couple of pointers;
1) Check your culture score on the F5 screen (It gives a specific total culture number).
2) Compare this number on the Histograph (F8 key) to see if any of the Civs passed 100K culture.
Of course, they could have got 20K in 1 city or a spaceship... I really can't offer any other advice, sorry.

JamesL, You have to load your last save and investigate. The 20K culture city should be the topmost one in the F11 screen. Investigate that city. But unless it has lots of wonders I doubt thats the case. Most unidentifiable AI victories are in fact SS victories. Check the space race if you have a spy at the winners, try to insert one if you dont. Or investigate their large cities to look for the last part being built in one turn.

I am trying to download the game for the first time. I am not entirely computer literate. Where do I save the game to?
Have you downloaded the necessary graphics files, etc. already? If so, then all you have to do with the .sav file itself is place it into the correct directory. Since you probably used the default set-up, that'd be:
C:/Program Files/Infogrames Interactive/Civilization III/Saves (if you're using regular civ 3 version 1.29f)
or
C:/Program Files/Infogrames Interactive/Civilization III/Civ3PTW/Saves (if you're using Play the World)

Welcome to the GOTM imightyaphrodit, JamesL, et al. I look forward to your submissions.
What I would also recommend is that you create a GOTM specific file below your regular Save folder (eg /Saves/gotm20). This will enable you to keep each months GOTM saves separate from each other for reference, spoiler write ups, corruptions of sent or missing saves requiring a re-submission, etc.

Where should feedback to the GOTM process be submitted? I have some concerns/opinions about the new self installing GOTM21 file that I would like to share.

If that last post was directed at me, I don't have any problems installing per se. I just wanted to provide some feed back on the new executable install. I'll go just go ahead and do that here.
1. The install is nice, but I am one of those paranoid security freaks that don't like running .exe files if it can be avoided. I didn't like relinquishing the control I had in previous months of installing the files. I understand completely why it was done - It just made me a tad uncomfortable. I realize this is a big thing to ask, but in future months, it would be nice if you had the choice of an automated installer, or the zipped files as before.
2. The self installer gives the location of the save file during the install. I think most people here install the files needed long before they get the save file (since one is available long before the other. Since we no longer have a readme to go to, this made it necessary for me to scribble down the location for a later date. Again, not a big deal, but also not as streamlined as it could be. This could probably be best avoided by posting the location of the start file on the civfanatics site itself at the start of the month...or simply not letting the installer out until the start of the month..that way, you can simply go grab the save right then and there.
Just my 2 cents in hoping to slightly polish an already professional process.
