Frequently Asked Questions - (FAQ)

You could try checking if that WarriorAttack.amb file is anywhere on your harddisk, or a file with a similar name. Maybe it's subtly different in Civ III gold.

Do you think that this is a problem with one of the previous downloads? Maybe 24? Is it that I did not get one of the previous ones installed correctly and now that it is at 25 the file that should have been there is not?

No, that is not the problem. The sound files it wants to copy should be in your standard installation somewhere. Search for any folder called \Warrior\ and see which Civ3 installation location it's in. That is the Civ3 location you have to point *all* the gotm add-on installers at.

Thank you Sir (I guess I should stop assuming gender by name and Avatar) I will try that approach tonight. I may have to un-install Gold (again) to start over again but I'm kinda getting used to that, with in the last six months my computer has gotten so buggy twice I've had to completely wipe the thing to make it work. (Mistfit ponders the Apple solution to his "buggyness" problem)

I've not tried it but I wonder if it is in the file: Program File\Atari indtead of Program File\Infograme I did notice that file last night as I was fiddling around. But I did not think to look around in there.

hmmm... good info though thanks AlanH :goodjob:

If you have \Program FIles\Atari\ I would think that would be a very good place to start your search.

PS. Re. Apple reliability - I'm biased. But my Mac only reboots when I need to update for an OS patch or the power fails, and I don't remember the last OS reinstallation I did, except when I did a clean install for the last major release just to clean it out.

PPS. I'm a 'Him'. My ID doesn't lie ;)

I just caught up with your earlier post at the bottom of the previous page. The reason the previous installers dont complain is that none of them copy any existing files from one place to another, so they don't notice, or care, if you are installing in the wrong place.

Here's a way to find out where to install:

I assume you have a shortcut on your desktop or in the Start menu to launch your copy of the game? If you can get properties for that shortcut you should be able to see where its target is. That will tell you where to install the gotm add-ons.

Yeah!!! It installed. Thanks to AlanH for HIS help and patience.

Interesting Note:

I dont know if this has something to do with having the Gold Edition or not but CIVIII is installed at 2 places in my Program files. #1 in Infogrames Interactive and #2 under Atari. I was trying to install it under info and should have been using Atari. I don't know why there is two fo them but it really dosen't matter now that the thing is working.

Bring on the next GOTM baby....

The other mystery is why, if it was fully installed in both places, was there no \Art\Warrior\ folder in the first one you tried. Perhaps the Gold Edition installation installed an Info vanilla first, then moved a lot of the original Infogrames files into a new Atari structure, but left a skeleton behind?

Smart new Avatar, Dianthus ;) I must admit I was getting your previous one confused with Moonsinger's rose from time to time

@Ainwood: I heard of a tool called Mapstat from my fellow-players and my question is: are we allowed to use this Mapstat to find out how much land we own, so we know where is the domination limits or is this considered a cheat? I'm reffering to SGTOM32(Germany).

EDIT: In case you're wander; NO we haven't yet used this tool. If it's ok with the game rules, we can use it, right?

The use of matstat is allowed in GOTM when you know the world map. The philosophy behind this is that you *would* be able to count the tiles yourself if you sat down to it (and have a couple of hours to spare).

Ok, thanks, I'll "talk" with my fellow-players.

@ AlanH: Ya know...after all of the trouble we went through to get me updated so I could play the next GotM using PTW...Ya could have let me know that we could have saved the hassle...Just kidding, I'm sure that 31 won't be the last Civ3 or PTW GotM...Right?

Well, if everyone said it was all a rotten idea, of course we'd rethink. But my guess is there will be an excellent response. Assuming the games are supported then yes, there will be 2 games per month from here on in.

Correct! If it was, I'd have something to say about it!

@AlanH - I was hunting around the thread from a year ago when Qitai had discovered the Free palace Corruption bug and came across this quote I thought you might get a kick about hearing your thoughts on this subject from Last September

It seems to me there will be a strong incentive to move GOTM towards Conquests-only at some point in the future, otherwise it will get left behind in terms of the majority player population. Not to mention that it removes the need to police exploits using these bugs.

1.29 is already "obsolete" as far as Atari/Firaxis is concerned. PTW is likely to go the same way once Conquests is out and selling. Cracker and the team have done wonders to allow 1.29 and PTW players equal access, but there's no way they are going to be able to create a level playing field across all three platforms in the likely event that these bug fixes are not retro-fitted.

My concern would be that the Conquests upgrade could become a price of admission to GOTM at some point, and that Conquests may not even be an option for Mac players.

WARNING: The above is all purely personal speculation. It might never happen. I'm sure the GOTM team are going to take a long hard look at Conquests and test it thoroughly before they ever allow it as a competition option.

Yes, thanks, I remember it well. I was right on several counts, and I was wrong on a crucial one.

Yes, we are providing C3C games of the month, and we are not trying to combine the platforms because of the very different game dynamics including things like corruption models, and we waited for 1.22 to stabilise before we jumped. I was unduly pessimistic in thinking that the classic games might be dropped, and I think several factors have driven that decision.

(1) We believe the player community, including the small but active Mac player group, will continue to support the classic versions.

(2) We are fortunate to have an enthusiastic game designer in Ainwood who is prepared to deliver exciting games for both platforms.

(3) The levels of entry process automation we have now achieved allow us to contemplate running multiple competitions.

BTW. I wasn't on the GOTM Staff on Sept 07,2003. I didn''t join until considerably later, so my remarks at that time were not based on any insider knowledge.
