Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Am I imagining things or is there a separator between the sticky threads and the regular ones?

Not really a question, but some feedback I thought of prompted by the sticky separator:

I would really prefer that this clutter could be moved to below the forum page rather than be at the top.

if you have more than 200 pms when you get banned do the pms disappear or you just cant do anything with them

Nothing changes, you simply can't receive any more.

Given the outcry when it was removed (server load), and given the similar demands to shorten

Yeah, but that was because it is very handy to see who is online. It is more handy to see if a thread has been replied to. Moving it to the bottom would be awesome!

#edit: Aww, you've not done that one then!

I thought that I recalled from earlier discussions that the moderators weren't going to waste any more time merging posts that happen to be sequential in a thread. Even though they are replying to different posts. Yet I see that the mods are merging them now. Though I haven't seen that they are issuing warnings on the issue.

Why? Is this the regular policy now?

As far as I know, we aren't warning people (for the type of double posting you describe) but if a moderator feels like it is best that the posts are merged, that is done.

I don't recall exactly what was decided, I wasn't really paying much attention to OT then. But if I had my druthers, multiple consecutive posts would be merged, and continually doing it would eventually be infractable if the user continuously does it.

Why? It's a waste of time and effort of the moderator for something that makes the forum more difficult to read and pisses off good posters who really haven't done anything wrong. In all honesty I cannot see any reason at all that you would waste a moment's time on something so trivial.

Because there's an edit button for a reason. There's also a multiquote button. Consecutive posting is frowned upon for these reasons. Well, not just those reasons. I'd have to go back and read the discussion thread in Staff.

Is there an option somewhere to automerge consective posts made within a time period? On my board (Zetaboards) there is although I don't have that turned on.

Other than that time I kept doing it multiple times, has the moderators ever seen anybody else accidentally using quote instead of edit?

The point is that it is a lot of extra work on everybody's part for no gain at all. There is no benefit to the forum for this. It does nothing except make CFC a less pleasant place to post at.

How does having consecutive posts merged make "CFC a less pleasant place to post at"? Your view is that multiple sequential posts by the same poster makes the forum easier to read. Ours is that it makes is harder to read.

It's trivial to you, not so trivial when you're the one that has to merge those sequential posts over and over again - especially when it's the same people doing it, creating unnecessary work for the moderators.
