Frequently Asked Questions

can someone here help me solve this problem.
i have bts updated to newest patch + civ4 1.74.i like to try this mod so i downloaded the 023c exe + 025f patch since i heard 025 is for bts. but when i try running the game i get many xml error. should i just download the 025 exe normally ?

0.23 is the vanilla Civ4 version, 0.25 is the Beyond the Sword version. If you have Beyond the Sword you want to download the base 0.25 mod (FallfromHeaven2025.exe) and the patch (FfH2025f.exe). Don't use and 0.23 version at all. You can't patch 0.23 with the 0.25 to upgrade it.

Whenever the number changes, you need to download the whole thing. .25f brings version .25 up to date, fixing the bugs that have been found and ffixed in it so far. It does NOT update any version with a lower version to the latest one, whether or not one is for vanilla and the other for BtS.

Yes, download the .25 exe (and possibly apply the .25f patch on top of that, I'm not sure whether the main download has been updated to include its changes or not)

Remember also that the newest BtS FfH [0.25]needs the newest BtS patch.

Hey i downloaded the game, but instead of installing it to the default directory, because I have steam, I installed it into the mods folder located there, but unfortuantly, I cant seem to load the mod, it doesnt show up in the game nor does the shortcut work as it asks for what program to open it with. Is this game playable with steam? or am i doing something wrong.
thnx in advance, loved the 1st game and so looking forward to trying out this awesome version.
Oh god, my dear!
You installed in the mod-file, it's OK, then either you make an own icon (FfH.bmp in the mod) at your desktop or just doubleclick the FfH.exe file to start it. Quite simple. Good luck.

No, patch c is the latest for .23.
Yes, the .wmv is not necessary.
I have read that without the Civ IV-CD there are problems. Just look in the enormous number of posts. Sorry. So try it with the CD to make it sure.
Maybe you change the options to make it very much easier for your graphic card to show details etc.
Cheers, will do. :)

also, if you zoom in closer and center on a city youll hear that civs musik
Hi SS, is it possible to change this? Quite often I can hear two sounds at the same time, but I like this zoom status as overview. But two sounds interacting does not always please.

After losing two heroes (Bambur and Arthendain) with high XP and combat odds during an hour of gameplay, I am considering going back.
I'm tired of quick saving before almost every battle - something I didn't do with the heroes above. Thank goodness for AutoSave!;)
I have already put the intervall to 2 rounds and are considering to change to 1.
It is sometimes boring, that the odds are fixed against me. But changing to refresh in the options improved it - a little. So lets continue to win with 0,2% and loose with 96.8%.
To show you you are not the only one: Yesterday evening, my hunter, strength 4, 118 XP in a wood with +50% defense is attacked by a fresh lizard man. "Of course" he was killed.

GFGuy --> Solved the problem, Im dowloading the mod as I write.

Sweet!

And thanks for the feedback; I'll make sure it gets to the team here!

not quite sure what you mean... myself i wish the civs musik was played more when youre zoomed out, because to hear it you have to be zoomed in way too close

In a certain zoom region I hear two sounds of music at the same time. I just want to hear only one. Can this be changed by an option or similar or not?

I don't think my problem is with FFH2, but it is affecting my playing the new BtS version.

Back in Thailand I purchased a registered Thai version of BtS (English game, Thai manual) and had no problems playing.

However, I returned to the USA a few days ago and purchased the USA version of BtS and installed it on a different computer, but with the same specs (2 gb RAM, 256 mg nVidia card, etc.).

Strangely, when playing vanilla Civ4, BtS or even FFH2 .23, I am getting screen flickering on many of the menus/screens when I play the games using the Full Screen option - which I always did previously. The only thing different is that in Thailand I was running XP SP2, but have Vista Home Premium here. Other games like Bioshock, Two Worlds, Loki, and Lost Planet are running fine without this flickering problem - on the Firaxis lineup is giving me problems.

I am downloading the 3.13 BtS patch and FFH2 .25 (with patch) now, but I am guessing I will still have this problem when running in full screen.

I've tried fiddling with the screen resolutions, refresh rates, etc. and nothing has worked - only playing the games in a Window, which I don't like.

Any ideas guys on what might be causing this and how to fix?

Thanks

Your already hit everything I would suspect. I know their were some vista fixes in 3.13 so hopefully it resovles it. As a mod we dont have any access to the graphical layer so I cant do much in FfH to resolve this.

Thanks for your reply, Kael.

I loaded the patch and .25 with patch g and it is still messed up.

It's very frustrating having to play the game in a window using a 22 inch widescreen monitor. :( When I select the Full Screen mode, some screens work, but most do not. I am still getting that flickering. Yesterday, I tried 2 other video cards with the same result. It is just bizarre that more graphics-intensive games like Bioshock, Two Worlds, and Lost Planet play fine. I guess I will just have to wait until I return to Thailand next month and see how things go with my setup there.

I will say I played my first game (in a window) and found no real bugs. It was a short game, though. My Epic game ended in a Conquest victory for me in yr. 287. The barbs wiped out everyone but Charadon, who had a peace treaty with them. I managed to get a small stack of units out of my borders and took down the Doviello. I was getting stacks of barbs every turn attacking my two Elohim cities. I would like to say the result was because of better barb AI, but again, I think it is just poor civ AI who cannot seem to adjust to the raging barbs and focuses on expansion rather than defense.

I did notice I failed to get a Thane when I founded ROK, but it wasn't a big deal because it spread to my only other city, my capital, it about 10 turns just before I built a Thane after the Temple of Kilmorph was built.

You and your team truly amaze me how you keep raising the bar and making this mod better and better. I honestly cannot remember enjoying a pc game more than CIV/FFH2....even though I have to play it in a window!;)

I can't seem to get this mod to load, either from the scenario menu or starting it with a shortcut. I have the game installed in D:\Games and when I right click the shortcut in mods/ffh2 it breaks explorer.

Edit: I got it from the menu in advanced in game, but I still would like to be able to load the mod from a shortcut.

Modify the properties on the short to the actual place you have Civ4 installed.
