FRESH! WWII with a twist

I just looked over it and thought it was because I might not have downloaded the first .zip file listed but that wasn't the case. I am still getting the error for the missing building text.

It's also possible that you're using an earlier city screen graphics zipfile. Perhaps one you downloaded awhile ago?

I've run into this problem too, seeing the "missing PediaIcons entry Auschwitz" window. What I did was delete the cityscreen files completely and then copy the files from another folder into the game. That's the file I uploaded, but if you have an earlier version that you downloaded then copied over to the newest version, you may need to simply download the links in post #2 above.

I solved the first error with the help of a friend and now I am having an issue with the map not loading something correctly. What would this be pertaining to?

Thank you for the feedback, Colonreese. You could be helpful by telling me how you solved the first problem. What did you do to avoid the "Auschwitz" error?

And the map not loading something. What exactly happens? I can't really answer you unless I know what isn't loading.

Are you still working on the next update? :(

It has been 20 days and no word, What is up???

Problems???? Busy?????? Do you need Help?????:wallbash:

WHAT???????

Please some word, date, progress, any thing? :crazyeye:

Please take a chillpill. Twenty whole days is nuthin. The real world happens.

What I'm working on right now is the combat values. That takes time. Next edition of this will have lots of playtest time under it, so it'll very likely fall off page one of the forums. Hell shall freeze over. But keep the faith, bro!

I'm weighing the tactics of giving air units a short or long range. Since the range of Air Mission: Intercept is within HALF the air unit's range (whaddupwiddat??) I want to play out with long-range air units (which minimizes the advantage of USA's tech) or short-range air units, so that "half the range" is less insignificant, if you get my drift...

At minimum, Reich technology must allow units that can cross the channel and bomb London...

Long range planes in the later stages of the game would show how techs where driven by war. The need for long range unit becomes the reason for building the bigger, the larger, the faster ie longer range air units, as the war begins to cost more work force and more resourses than most nations had on hand.:scan:

Also I still think that Armies should be transportable, example: Patton's armor Army, Rommel's desert core, etc. They where transport across water. :p

Playing Far Horrizons now. But still awaiting for your update.:crazyeye: Chilling as you said.

Cool.

About the army transporting, the only way around it is to create a unit that looks like, smells like, and fights like, an army, but is only a unit. No transport flag ticked. That would allow them to be loaded onto a land/air transport, but it wouldn't have the unique ability armies have--to share hit points and withdraw when down to their last hit point.

Perhaps some MU graphic with two separate files for the .INI file "Defend" and "attack". I've found that the prog uses different graphics for EVERY combat round! It might LOOK like an army, but it'd have to be, say A120 D120 with +3 HP. Producable ONLY by a MA.

Mebbie... food for thought...

The more I think about it, and the more I download the MU graphics, I realize that it would be no problem to make a unit that looks like an army. All I'd have to do is use a MU graphic for the unit, then add sundry attack and defend graphics for the INI file. It'd be easy.

Have a Unit called "Army" with the MU Tank Regiment (or Rifle Regiment) graphics for the Default entry in the INI file. It'd be a group marching to battle, and once battle is begun, their graphics would change according to the course of battle. Use the Anti-tank grfx for attack and the infantry grfx for defend. Death could be creative, using one of the MU death anims.

This unit would have large hit point bonuses, like normal armies do, but would not have to be built up with numerous units, would not be a transporting unit, and thus, to the point, would be able to load onto a transport ship.

But, my friend, unfortunately, I have a moral disdain for cheating on strategy by using graphics. Let the thread-readers fall to the wayside if they may. I donwanna make a unit that LOOKS like an army.
(edit: Jeez I sound like a whiner)
I have a better solution to the "transporting armies overseas" problem.

Simply make the Military Academy MAKE military leaders, instead of armies.

Transport the LEADERS to their new continent, by whatever means, then make the army THERE.

(Edit after coffee the next morning)
However, I seem to recall that MGLs can't be built. I'll test that out soon enough. I sympathize but I'm reluctant. Not stubborn tho. The idea of pre-fab armies is attractive, if a lot of work... We shall see...

How do the mods: HOD ie Far Horizons and Earth2000.OneBillion do it?

I have been playing those while waiting on yours, armies are built of different units and they can be transported. :crazyeye: 5 spaces/slots used (four for units and one for leader).

Far Horizons has different flicks when attacking and uses different ones, when low points reached on strongest unit, Also they have different death flicks if army dies.;)

So why don't you ask those guys how the do it?

STILL WAITING FOR YOUR UPDATE:king:

Sssssss-p! Ahhhh... Caaafee.

Well, many thanks to Sword Of Geddon. I asked him and he told me how to do it. Turns out, I've been wrong all along: an army CAN be transported, I had always assumed that the prog counted them as transports like helis or sumpin. Mebbie the "army" flag ticked bypasses the transporting transports block. Helis transport, so they can't land on a carrier; armies don't actually transport, I guess (units join them for the duration).

It's been so long since I played plain Civ, I'd forgot.

So.

I still wanna keep the normal transport with a capacity of 1 (the AI doesn't load more than one per transport, I want to put the human on equal ground) but I'll add the unit "army transport" with a larger capacity--and higher cost. I think I can do it so that an army transport won't transport soldiers, only armies loaded with soldiers. This morning's test worked.

thanks SOG!

So how long until the next update? Just Asking, not Pushing? :crazyeye:

Great news about the Army - transport issue. ;)

Still playing other mod's, but awaitnig yours!!!:goodjob:

I have the last update finished, but it won't run. I start up C3C but it hangs every time. So untill I figure out why this happens, I'm afraid WWIIw/twist will have to be put in the archives...

Hanging app error. Screen doesn't go all black, it just freezes. I updated my video driver, uninsalled and re-installed, defragmented, even tried System Restore, and no go. There's a thread in the tech problems forum, and his trouble seemed to be solved by the driver update, but no go for me. Perhaps because I'm working with 256MB on a laptop...

Sorry.

Too bad too, cuz Temple Of Solomon, al-Aqsa Brigades, The Syndicate, Islam, and Eastern Infantry woulda made the modern era kinda interesting. I launched this successfully once, then tweaked something in Scenario Properties, and now the thing's broken.

As my last post mentions, untill I figure out why it hangs, the mod won't be updated. I think perhaps I know why it hangs, since I used Task Manager to increase the priority for Civ, and instead of a steady "Not Responding" this causes the app to run intermittently. I think I've run out of RAM.

In another thread I posted "I stepped in a pile of Updates" and that's about as kind as I can say it. XP has an agressive updates subroutine (you actually cannot remove the notification in TM--it might require registry editing...) and after my latest update, there simply isn't enough memory left to run this mod.
Turning off automatic updates would help, but the damage is done.

This is an assumption, of course, since vanilla Civ runs fine; but in any case, once the real world stops dogging my heels I plan to buy more RAM and I'll get back to playing. I'll just have to WAIT. And see...
