I really love the Brandenburg Concertos in the Civilization IV.
in the game music folder we got:
Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 part 3,
No. 3 part 1,
No. 4 part 1,
No. 6 part 1 and 3
I really like to have the rest No. 1-6 part 1-3 (so 18 total). but I don't know which recording it is came from? because many Brandenburg out there. (like 20-30)
Is it Boston Baroque Orchestra/Martin Pearlman?

Geez, I didn't even realize there was such good music with this game. I always have it turned off. I'll have to copy those over to the My Music folder.

Wow, you don't see many Bach fans these days.

For the Brandenburg Concertos, I personally have the I Musici one (Double CD, has all the brandenburg concerto (1-6) along with vioin concertos). The orchestra in the recording is not that big and the instrumentation is a little different from the civIV, but I assure you the sound qualtity is good.

By the way, did you check out the menuet I and II of the cello suite no.1 in G major?
I think that's like the best of the Civilization IV.
Cello rocks! Bach rules!:D

I only like some classic like Clair De Lune and Canon in D.
Honestly, I wouldn't know that great Brandenburg thing if I didn't play Civilization IV. *shy*.
PraetoriusBallet, DeLaTorreAlta both also my fav.

Civilization IV rules! lol

Yeah, I like the Praetorius Ballet and the Volte. I got the CD titled Dances from Terpsichore (composer Michael Praetorius, New London Consort/Phlip Pickett) and managed to find the volte, but couldn't find the ballet. Also the arrangement was completely different.
It seems the CivIV creators do sometimes make their own arrangements.
The only problem I have with the CivIV recording of the praetorius is that they don't really sound like a real orchestra. I may be wrong but they sound computer generated. (although it's pretty good for that)

By the way, you should really get the No.5 part 1 for the Brandenburg. I think it's like the most famous.

DeLaTorreAlta? Don't remember that one. Gotta check it out!

wait2.. so who is the original composer Praetorius Ballet and the Volte?
I have several classical mp3 too but that 2 song look like not famous one?

I've noticed that the Gloria and Credo from Palestrina's Missa Papae Marcelli are both in a lower key on the game soundtrack than what Palestrina wrote. They actually sound better to me, though, since they're ridiculously high for the sopranos and tenors as written.

Actually there are 19 movements total. Brandenburg 1 has an extra movement of dances following the finale movement. On the other hand, the second movement of #3 is only 1 measure long so you could argue that barely counts.

Who knows what recording is used in Civ4 but honestly just get yourself any decent recording...the Brandenburgs are really fantastic music. You can also listen on youtube...Brandenburg 3 is one of my favorites:

Sorry, I didn't mean it like that. They are both by Michael Praetoruis, as indicated in the title. Arranging is different from composing.

Why not? Jeff Briggs, one of the co-founders of Firaxis, and the lead for Civ4, holds a Doctorate in Musical Composition and Theory. ;)

That's interesting. Wait, does that mean I do have the hope of becoming one of the top creators for civ VI? :D
I think that's excellent. Holding a high position, music can be easily stressed. Apart from the game, I think the adroit selection of music also makes Civ IV a great game. (but I have to admit I don't find the modern era music so attractive)

They really did get the music right in Civ IV. I certainly do enjoy Bach (Mozart, Beethoven, etc.), but as a fan of minimalism, I especially enjoy the Adam's pieces in the Modern Age. Too bad they couldn't get any Philip Glass.

Isn't Daikon a great big radish?

If you do become creator for civ VI, do make an improvement using 3d glasses. :scan:
I would really like to have a feeling in the middle of the gunpowder battle.
not nuke battle though.

Sorry, I really don't know anything about music before bach. are they grouped into classical music as well?
nvm. even if it's medieval music I still like it. =)

btw, does anyone know name of BTS OpeningMenu song (/chant?)?

An enemy here! I've never found myself into minimalistic pieces. Those pieces like "loops and verses" are so repetitive, making them more game "BGMish" compared to the music of the other eras. One piece I found myself preoccupied with in the modern era was "Chconne." (doesn't sound so minimalistic) The whole song sounded like a strange solo with the melody not matching the background chords at all. It depresses me...:(

Yup, Daikon is a name for a long radish in Japan. If you are a true Japanese, you may see (eat) one everyday. And I presume your name is related to you being a minimalistic fanatic.

By then, they may have 3D screens like in star wars! (what do you call those things?)

Classical music can mean two different things. One meaning is everything other than modern, from Bach to Rachmaninof. The other refers to an era after the Baroque era.

Medieval era was a period before another era known as the Renaissance, which lead to the Baroque. There were great composers before Bach. For instance, Praetorius. I am a fan of Corelli too.

I don't know the default opening for BTS, as I like Baba Yetu from vanilla much better (I think that might be the one you're talking about). In the music files, I think Baba Yetu is called "Opening Title" or something along those lines.

Strangely enough, I have also found the performance of Concerto No 3 here finer than any of the other recordings I had owned before Civ IV came out. I would also love to find out where the rest of this series is available...!
