Funny note: Developers knew of problems

Well at least we know that Firaxis was aware of many of the problems that we are encountering -- because they encountered it in testing.

Soren Johnson's afterword in the manual says this about the testers (at the end of his commentary):

"They were but a few of a larger group...who put up with terrible crash bugs, gaps in communicaitons, system incompataibilities, invisible terrain, and worse...."

Sigh....

Of course they knew about it. No complex (or even simple) software can be developed without bugs. Soren's statement is accurate and typical of any piece of software during a several year development from rough prototype to finished 'gone gold' product. To extrapolate his statement to mean he was takling about the product shipped on the final day is irresponsible.

The more that I read about how many people are finding common fatal issues with this game the more that I no longer feel that bad about it not being available yet for me to buy.

It has been bad enough having to wait to buy it but goodness knows how frustrating it must be for the many people that have parted with their cash already and found they types of issues that should not have been there in the final release.

Hopefully an official resolve will come soon.

I certainly "extrapolated" no such thing to the extent that you imply, I'm only offering that it seems odd that he would be so general in his statements about "system incompatibilities" and other such items but so specific about "invisible terrain" which seems to have affected so many users.

One would think that since they were so aware of such a specific problem, they would already have commentary on their support board on how to deal with it -- since they so clearly have already dealt with the issue. Regardless it is not the issue(s) that prevents me from playing. It is just commentary.

That doesn't explain why they have the RECOMMENDED hardware a bit below my own settings, and yet I have incredibly jerky gameplay and it gave my computer a fatal error last time I played nearing endgame. All at the lowest possible settings.:nuke: :nuke:

The bugs aren't all that bad. It just eats up your memory while playing, so every couple of hours just save, exit the game, restart your system and play again. Not that bad. I hope it'll get fixed some day though, because I doubt many people have 2Gb of RAM in their system.

I wish it was that good in my case. I have gotten to the point where I pretty much save the game after every single thing I do because I don't know when the next crash is going to be. If I play for 5-10 minutes in a row it's pretty amazing. I also have had the choppiness (usually after talking to other leaders) and again, I was getting out and getting back in a lot more often than every couple of hours. Maybe every 10 minutes at most.
