Well it's true music has generally been pretty lame for decades now. A few exceptions here & there (RHCP, Nirvana, Tupac) but popular music today in general is just terrible. Which makes sense as the country hasn't had a whole lot of soul during my lifetime ('79-present).

Probably the great recession/depression of the early 20th will revitalize music again. As society collapses the vapid synthetic sound of the 90's & 00's will come to be despised as a symbol of the pathetic & greedy time where mankind frittered away it's opportunity to create a sustainable future & folk music will return.
