Hmm, I missed 'Storm the Keep' as a possibility.

Would they actually call a Civ subscription 'Season Ticket'? Versus something like 'era pass'

well they dont need to call it season ticket in the end. it could be a working title like vesuvius

... He would be the first disabled leader in Civ (that I know of). ...
Enrico Dandolo was blind, did you know? It's a different type of impairment, but I think it counts. And, loosely, there's Maria the Mad of Portugal, who became seriously mentally ill during her reign.

I really don't see why people have this hangup where they think that the STK packs would have to be compatible with Vanilla or Vanilla + RF. A player that is still buying DLC for Civ6 at this point will have picked up GS on sale. Just put the requirement in the pack "This pack requires Gathering Storm" and call it good.

People really over-think this.

RF shouldn't matter as the mechanics were incorporated into GS. Isn't that how it works?

Potential buyers are the entire base of players. I suspect that claim you made may sound more logical than truthful and that data may not back it up.

A £7 DLC with some leader on the cover the player recognises might prompt him to buy it where a full priced expansion didn't.

Also, Victoria posted this screenshot a couple weeks ago. Notice how everything is set up to make it easy for you to purchase additional content. If you look closely you may even be able to read the subliminal messaging left there by the marketing crew:

However, I do find it less likely players who haven't bought the expansions would now decide to buy a season pass. But that says nothing of the individual DLC packs themselves.

@pokiehl

If it's just Leaders and Civs couldn't they just have different sets of modifiers for Vanilla and GS? Isn't that what happens atm anyway?

I'm curious to see what's coming. Free updates for GS and full expansions sounds like the clean way to add new game mechanics. So they may still keep those two things separate (Leaders/Civs vs Mechanics).

As many companies have a dlc policy to keep a good cash flow after launching the game. I can only speak for myself but since the income i can spend on leasure time is not endless.
And if money is not a factor. The amount of time i can spend as an adult on pc games is also not endless.
There are multiple series that i "must" update. Series that i want to play on day one. Civilization is one of them. Also battlefield, elder scrolls and multiple paradox titles. (Just my personal preference)
There are some games or series that i let collect dust on my whishlist. To be bought when it is on sale 3/6/12 months later. (for example i`m excited to play warhammer 2 and three kingdoms from total war at some point. But have not had nether the funds or time to step in.
Ive got a couple of games i play but dont update with new content. I love cities skylines. I love the regular free patches. But wether i own x radio station or 20 extra glass inner city buildings is irrelevant if i just want to play the game now. It wont be missed.
And then there are games that i dont buy on day one and want to see developed first. Then i buy the whole thing in one go say 2 years later with a good deal. (I never buy EA or ubisoft titles on day one. They tend to not live up to the hype). Often recent dlc is not on sale so i might not buy it in one go.

So if civilization was not a must play. There would be multiple reasons not to keep the game up to date with all content. It would s*ck if i loved civilization multiplayer and i would get kicked out for not owning the latest leader.
It is the job of a developer to let as much people play their games online. Wether they own only vanilla or 1 or 2 expansions. Civ 6 is relatively easy. But play a game like Europa universalis 4 and the dlc policy would get complicated on multiplayer.

Any leader or civ with different abilities in vanilla vs DLC was patched to be updated with the DLC, not added as part of the DLC. I cannot see them up-front designing a civ with a different ability set for vanilla vs with DLC. That'd be twice the work and there's no precedent for that.

And there was me always wondering why he had such odd empty eyes

Isn't Eleanor a precedent for having DLC content which depends on prior DLC? She uses the loyalty mechanics after all...

Nope, because Gathering Storm includes the mechanical changes of Rise and Fall.

Aah ok. Thanks for clarifying... Still there is a lot of design space for new civs without using GS or R&F specific mechanics... Assuming/hoping we are getting new civs

Request: Would it be possible to change the thread title to something like "Winter Udate got announced!" when it finally happens?

I don't think, I want to go through this whole "Maybe today!?!!" forum posts with me being excited about new forum entries only to be disappointed by the lack of real news and some meaningless chatter instead.
Visiting the forum, seeing an unchanged thread titel and immediately leaving it with a shrug would be so much easier for my nerves.

(Don't get me wrong. I am all for some meaningless chatter in the forum. Just please not in this thread ... ;) )

Oh ... and I know it won't happen.
So this post is just some more meaningless chatter ... ;p
