"FYI" is not acceptable in a "report post"

A few people have adopted Jethro's habit of just saying "FYI" in a report post, this is no good.

I need to know why you thought a post was unacceptable, often as justifaction for action.

Also, I am often at work when I get report posts, I can't just click to CFC unless I have some concrete reason for immediate action.

In the future, please explain briefly why you reported a post.

Thanks for your cooperation.

I concur entirely with AoA
This is what the report post button is for:
"This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts."
To use it you should be able to categorize the post as one or more of the listed faults or other specific rule violations that would also be problematic, MOST particularly those with an actuality or a high potential for disruption.
If not then you should use the PM (which has a lower priority response) to contact the moderator, rather than the report post button. PMs would be used to report wrong Forum, need to edit thread , OR IF YOU ARE UNSURE if it is a violation or problem. If you are unsure of the violation, it cannot be urgent enough to use the report post button.

Guys....my apologies. I do only use "report post" in those cases that are appropriate. I assumed that when I reported the post to you, it not only notified you of my message (the "fyi"), but also included the text of the message I was reporting. If that is the case, then I understand your frustration.

Point taken.

Jethro, it only includes LINKS to first the post, and then the thread.

We have to click on the link to see the post, so a brief discrition would help.

Sometimes I can't come here and quickly do something, I need to know how urgent the problem is.

Ah...like the (personal opinion) worthless subscription notifications. Completely understand.

Would a "cut and paste" of the inappropriate post be sufficient (unless additional commentary is necessary to provide context)?

I always give descriptions.

Oh yeah? Well....

I take a vitamin EVERY single day....

And I floss....

SO I think we're even. :p

I don't actually report posts usually, I just pm or IM one of the mods.

I don't think many people care who does or who doesn't give descriptions when reporting something to a moderator.

They've stated numerous times HOW to report something, and everyone should follow their procedure, as it means a quicker response.

Sorry about that. I did take Jethro's advice on the assumption that you'd want to make the call yourselves. I didn't think of the hassle of determining what the offense was.

In the future I'll go back to telling you exactly what Ohwell has done wrong.

;)

I'll be sure to write a more detailed description from now on. Sometimes I'll just write one word like "Spam." or something that that's it, but I'll be sure to include more.

I have a question: What if the post we want to report is on page 16 of a thread right smack in the middle of the page, and we click "report this post" on that particular reply; does it take you to that post, or does it take you to the first post in the thread? I would hope it would take you to the particular post..

Padma, I have used the "Report Post" and writing "wrong forum" as the reason. Is this how you like it, or should I pm you instead? It is easier for me to use the report buttom (I don't have to find another post by you, so I can pm you), but I'll be a conformist, and adjust to the authorities. ;)

Padma's name is easy to remember...just enter it into the PM box.

Chieftess is the other C&C moderator, another easy name to remember.

For "wrong forum" type things, I would prefer a PM. Report Post is a high-priority message, that is emailed to all the mods for that particular forum. We jump on those as soon as we receive them. For relatively minor things, like a "wrong forum" post, if we don't get to it for a little while, no great harm is done.

BTW, in my particular case, if you see I am online, the fastest way to contact me is via PM, especially on workdays between 8:00am and 4:00pm Central US time (14.00-22.00 GMT). ;)
