While the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

Settings:
 • Victory Condition: Domination (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
 • Difficulty: Noble
 • Starting Era: Ancient
 • Map Size: Standard
 • Map Type: Oasis
 • Speed: Normal
 • Must Not Be Checked: No Barbarians, Permanent Alliances
 • Civ: England
 • Opponents: Any
 • Version: 1.74.004 or 3.19.003
 • Date: 25th January to 10th February 2012
Must not play as Inca.

The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

A couple of questions:
1. Is the Vanilla version correct? 1.74.001 is not the current HOF version.
2. In Vanilla you can't turn off tribal villages, is this a problem?

Thanks,

Am I correct in assuming that you still can't submit games in any way on a Mac without running Civ through windows? (as in, MacBUFFY still not acceptable?) I'm sure this question has been asked many times, but I wanted to be sure nothing has changed.

You are correct, sir. :goodjob:

Fixed the version to .004 and removed the Huts restriction. First post has been updated.

Thanks for the clarification. Another question, the rules state "Civ - England" and then at the end it says you must not play as Inca (suggesting you can choose anyone else)...

The "You must not play as Inca" is just a standard rule for HOF game. Yeah, it does not make sense when a leader/civ is specified, but it is just a copy/paste deal.

Yep, you're right. Unless you can run under windows there isn't a version of the mod to run on a Mac.

Well I for one appreciate you putting up with Vanilla just one more time.

Uggh.. Just read the "fine print" and noticed that Cylindrical maps are not allowed for Oasis..:cry:

Is there anyway to not start in the South on this map? All of the horses are in the north...

There is no way to start in the northern strip of land under HoF mod.
We have to change the team number for a even number to do so IIRC.

To get those lands, unfortunately, you will have to do a pilgrimage to the north and on normal speed, it is not very attractive. Still, you are on noble, you have time to start a axeman rush or an elepult. Ivory is accessible the upper portion of south.

If you really want horse, either settle a city in the north or try to trade it with an AI who is lucky to have more than one; this happens quite often on a whacky mapscript.

I'm curious what would be a good time in this. I'm at 1100 ad, need to whack one more opponent and fill the map with cities to get to dom BP. I did not went for horses, maybe that would be faster, i don't know, but churchill's uber longobows are too fun to miss

I would try Victoria for the cheaper settlers. Financial won't hurt either. 1100 AD? idk, will tell you if I try a run or two.

Increased number of opponents, and a warrior rush of two of them to "clear" the map a bit is a good start IMO. Oasis is a big map (many tiles), so a huge number of settlers for the final push will be needed I guess. A watery map would be easier for a quicker domination.

I know Buffy "broke" the ability to start in the north, but maybe if you play Vanilla, you can still do it. (like you wrote...change to and even number.)

Just want to share a little something:

Once upon a time, there was lushy land with decent resources. My first militia was about to explore the world for meeting so many different cultures. 180 years later, we have already contacted someone. Unfortunately, our militia was avid for blood and massacre and entered the weakly protected borders to sack the city 60 years later. No resistance, no even a scratch, not even a fight. The land was even more beautiful: pigs, cows, furs, hills, forest. What a marvellous fortress on a hill for future wars.

The militia continued its periple while making contact with lesser nations. But, after hearings of the massacre, they grew angry and saw red. My militia met his end fast. Three mercenaries popped out of nowhere and even gods' protection (2 free wins) didn't save him.
It had to happen to the best. Anyways, two others were about to replace the loss. Better kismet. Oh no. The first died in a horrible way, a very similar one to the very first. The second got eaten by the animals.

I observed that, sighed and concluded: MURPHY'S LAWWW!!! GodDAMMIT!

True story.

Ragequitted.

I think the rules don't permit any team number swap at all.

:p As always, RNG gods are favourable to me. After two-three fake attempts of 5 min each, the next was sweet.
Single continent, chose Animal Husbandry path right away, villages taught me Horseback riding early, got horses in my third culture ring (like in G-Major 93 instead of copper) and I ran amok.

Ragequitted.

I think "What goes around comes around" is more fitting than Murphy's Law!
