Game crashes...video card problem?

I get almost the exact same error that aml666 gets, but mine happens ~30min+ in rather than 1 hour+. I have found almost nothing on this bug and I know I'm not the only one with it.
My video card is an ATI Radeon x1300 PCIe 256Mb and my CPU is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ running WinXP Pro SP2 so I know it's not my system. Civ's run on it before absolutely fine. I hate uninstalling programs just to reinstall them so I'm keeping that as a last resort.
I would really to know if anyone has a solution; even if it is that I need to reinstall(But I'd prefer to hear that news from someone who's had the damn problem and KNOWS that it will fix it.).
If all else fails I'll just re-customize my Windows install again and do a reinstall of my OS.
Either way a 'Thank you' to whoever has advice.

Alzo, my Civ version is BtS v3.13

I installed some software to turn my fans on full speed to keep the card cooler... this did not resolve the problem.

Unfortunelly same problem here, on ASUS A8Jc ;/
i tried all above solutions, but they just don't solve problem, i've got CivBTS and Civ vanilla from steam, and problem is in both games, i tried redownload them and still, and i even reinstalled my windows (xp) ;/ oh, and i tried unofficial video drivers from laptopvideo2go.com, but they usually worked worse than included driver.
(sorry for my bad english)

Core Duo 1,66 GHz
1024 MB RAM
Geforce Go 7300 128MB VRAM + 384MB from system memory

Want the easiest solution to this problem? Memory leaks, schmemory leaks...just run in windowed mode (change .ini file or select in options menu).

VOILA! Play all day...:crazyeye:

Unfortunately, that is how I had been playing. I even adjusted the screen down.

I have accepted that Civ IV does not work on my computer. I've installed it and will reinstall if they release another patch.

:(

This thread seemed dead until I posted in it so all my information has been going here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=255662
That's where my future posts will be.

Either way, this is the fix that I found that may help:
"This is the solution that I've found that most people have reported the most success:

(From: cobrakaun(With some modification) On: ABXZone Computer Forums)

Right-click on My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager
Once there click [+] next to System Devices then right-click on 'CPU to AGP Controller'(Or whatever your controller is called, it should be something along those lines) -> Update Driver.
Select 'Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)' -> Next -> Select 'Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.' -> Next -> Select 'PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge' -> Next -> Finish. Once that's all over with, reboot and all should be well.
Now I've not personally tried this because -- as I've said before -- this solution is for AGP cards and mine is PCI-E and there seems to be no solution like this one; I would have for confirmation of this solution's authenticity before proposing it. But I continue my quest for a PCI-E solution...

I'll keep everyone posted."

Sorry it didn't work for you man. Here's another idea...trash your Nvidia card for this game. Go and get a cheap ati x200 or something and run that instead. ATI problems seem to have been fixed for the most part. I run on an integrated x200 and the game runs flawlessly - no glitches at all.

Nvidia has MAJOR issues with their cards and this game...seems ironic doesn't it? Didn't they invest heavily in the production of this game? I mean, their logo comes up at the intro movie and their cards are the one's doing all the crashing!!

same problem here. the computer freezes after 2-60 mins of play at no specific moment. it can literally happen at any time. i have a geforce 7600gs card and the temperature in my computer and graphics card is about 40-45 degrees, so that shouldn't really be a problem.

civ4 works, however, smoothly on my laptop. strange bug...

Except that solution is hogwash, as I have an Nvidia card and the same specs as Sparrowmint. Actually, completely identical specs other than having Vista instead of XP. I don't get this error.
