Game doesn't start at all... HELP!!! (Spanish windows?)

That post specifically mentions Windows XP -- are those of you with the problem running on XP or on a later version of Windows?

Edit: I sent 2K Greg a PM on the 2K forum about the Windows version, asking if it's XP or later versions too.

The thread about this issue is huge at this point. Most of them have XP, but some have Vista too.

Some people at the thread said they updated to Windows 7 and that solved it. I was about to try that too.

It was already posted in this thread. You're welcome, though.
It was in a spoiler, never thought to look inside because I thought it would be a copy of the thread. :crazyeye:

well DaveShack, that fills me with hope I guess. I was going to post again how I was unable to fix my civilization copy at all... I guess I'll forget about the game for a while and then try again.

see you soon

The fix has been released. Unfortunately, it appears the same issue is now affecting previously unafffected users.

If you have problems launching after the patch, restart your Steam client, and you should be good to go. Please let me know if this is not the case. The patch is still propagating, so it may take longer to reach some corners of the planet. :)

Restarted steam client (rebooted computer several times too) and still having this problem. Wish it gave an error message of some sort.. simply says 'civ v has stopped working..' this happens during the load screen (whether or not I turn off the skip intro).

Can you check the game directory and tell me if the EXE's have been updated (do the dates reflect todays date)?

It was updated 7:34pm sept 30th. I started having the problem at around 4pm or so though.

Your video card driver is from September of last year. Can you update that to the current driver and let me know if that helps?

Thanks

Updating it unfortunately didn't work (I actually updated to the beta before posting but rolled back because it didn't resolve the issue).

Too bad. I really had my fingers crossed =x. The game was working fine earlier today.. oy

Well crap I found the problem, and I think I wasted your time. Apparently while running mod buddy, the game saved the xml file over the real file in the civ directory rather than keeping it local to the mod. oy.. time to reinstall =x

Hello all,
I'm glad to inform that this very morning (before going to work) I tried the game... and it works! It seems that 2K fixed it this night.
It has been almost a week without playing it, and even I'm very happy because now it is working, I feel a bit disappointed because how 2K support managed it: no email answer, no explanation, nothing.
Anyway, now it's working.
Regards
