Game Features/Functions

I guess tell me all of your events (here is fine for discussion purposes) and what they do, including the "joke" events, and we'll figure out which ones to add, drop, or edit. :goodjob:

Below is a list of the events that have been included in WoL so far (I'm thinking of making ~20 more for the next version); as a side note, knowing that you have a good amount of historical knowledge, I think you can find how some of them have been inspired by historical occurrences/people. I removed a couple that I'm not so happy with. Joke events have been indicated as joke events.

The list:

Spoiler :

Education Costs: Students around the nation are complaining about the rising costs of secondary education. Should the government intervene?

Medieval Forensics: A security official with medical expertise has published a groundbreaking book dealing with what he calls forensics – using logic and science to help solve crimes.

Toilet Paper: An inventor in our Empire has invented toilet paper!

Protecting the Elephants: Government officials have noted that poachers have been hunting elephants to near-extinction around one of our cities.

Stadium Riot: Sports spectators have begun rioting in one of our cities after their team lost. They are attacking civilians and burning down buildings!

New Oasis: Merchants have discovered a previously unknown oasis!

Dead Artist: A local artist has just died, and, after searching through his possessions, his relatives have found a whole store of remarkable, extraordinary art!

Annoying Bandits: Bandits have been disrupting the daily lives of citizens in one of our cities.

Child Prodigy: A piano-playing musical prodigy is gaining attention throughout the Empire!

Tasty Mushrooms: A new species of delicious, nutritious, and non-poisonous mushrooms have been discovered near one of our cities.

Medieval Castle: The local castle in one of our cities has been a local monument for years, impressing visitors with its sheer magnificence and splendor. Recently, the last heir to this castle has died. In his will, he has wished for the castle to become a national monument.

Moo Moo: A wealthy rancher has decided to move to a plot of land near one of our cities, bringing along with him his vast cow herds.

SAT: Our advisors suggest that in order to improve public education around the country, we should create a national test, called the SAT, which will show how much our students have really learned!

Potential Market: Though small, one of our towns is attracting merchants from afar as a new, potential market. Analysts suspect the town could develop into a major trading center!

Satire: A popular and well-renowned scholar in one of our cities has published a scathing satire about our government! It seems that the entire city is now experiencing an unprecedented amount of civil disorder.

Animal Rights: Apparently it seems some crazy nudist animal rights activists have been protesting again in our capital. Although a few citizens (coincidentally male) appreciate the gesture, many citizens think the activists have gone way too far.

Pacifist Saint: Lately, word has been spreading around the Empire of a Saint who teaches pacifism as well as love for humans and animals. Due to his peaceful and benevolent personality, he is an inspiring figure to a religious community worldwide.

Silly Rabbit [Joke Event]: A rabbit has attempted to steal yogurt from our leader.

Cheese Addiction [Joke Event]: It seems our leader is addicted to cheese. He seems to be stocking up a lot on cheese.

After I finalize the draft list for the next set of events for the next version of WoL, I can post them up here for you too if you want.

Maybe one event could be some sort of terrorist attack? It would probably involve something like this:

Today our great nation was attacked by terrorists on a scale never before seen in the history of mankind. We have narrowed down the location of these terrorists to the X Empire. What course should we take?

-->These actions cannot go unpunished! We'll declare war! (automatically declares war without heed to other diplomatic arrangements, 100% chance of suffering -1 relations hit against all other empires)
-->Send in the intelligence agents to eliminate the mastermind. (50% chance of suffering -3 relations hit against X Empire, 25% chance of war with X Empire, 10% chance of suffering -1 relations hit with all other empires)
-->We cannot do anything. Unfortunately our military is too weak to take on that nation, and our spies aren't competent enough to deal with it. Let other nations take care of it. (75% chance that terrorist attacks keep attacking, suffer -3 unhappiness throughout the empire, suffer -1 relations hit from all other empires)[\QUOTE]

I know some of the penalties are quite harsh, but I think it's quite realistic. If a country IRL is attacked and does nothing, everyone else would go, "why can't they respond?".

A more fun one would be,

It appears that our people want to host the World Cup! Should we make a bid?
-->Yeah! We could always use the extra revenue! (+1 happiness in all cities, +2 gold in X largest cities)
-->Who cares about soccer? Football's the real sport! (no effects)

It's a cool idea, but I think you should exercise caution with this one. Considering the amount of civilizations you have (I don't remember exactly, but what not), would it be plausible to develop a reasonably unique and balanced "unique civic" for each one?

Not saying that you should or shouldn't have it, but I mean it is something to consider.

You are probably right, while it would be easy to figure one out for each Empire (obviously every culture/civilization/country/etc. has had a unique method running itself), it would be difficult to make them different enough that it becomes worthwhile. So it is best not to include it.

By the way cybrxkhan, what's up with the event list? And does everyone think it is worth including events with pictures or do you all think it would effect performance?

Ah, yeah, I've been kind of absent from CFC lately for several random reasons, so lots of things have been slipping from me, but anyhow - do you just want me to post up the completed events in a zip attachment here, or send it to you via some other medium, or what?

Concerning the events, I don't know the exact stats, but if those pictures take up way too much data and space, I would advise against it. Then again I don't feel like it'd take up too much space anyways, especially considering the fact that your mod's gonna be relatively huge.

I like the idea of pictures for events, but the only problem is that since this mod is quite heavy as it is, it might produce earlier MAFs and the like.

Hey hey hey, back from an unexpected vacation of sorts from most of the net/gaming, was moving again.
However I'm back and completely free-up to do some modding! Hows it going in here?

Hope the project's still alive, tried Civ5 again this week to see if a second try would make me hate it less. Single player's still meh to me, and the multiplayer still makes me rage (difference being mainly the lack of animations, and some really bad desync issues), so I'm craving what we had that 5 removed. Huge selection of civs/leaders, intelligent AI, various world religions, and awesome unit/city art (I still stand by that, with the incorporated unit/city art, and with the textures you picked, this game even looks better than 5.)

I now also have access to a few more PCs of varying power (one high end, two medium end, 2 are 64-bit, 1's 32, though all 3 are Win7 so...) , so I can also help more with beta testing.

Welcome back TAdF, glad to see you around again. I haven't had as much time to mod as before, so you haven't missed a whole lot. I still haven't got a new playtest out yet because I am still working on a few things, but I'm hoping to have the next one out after finishing up the religions. Right now I just have to get a few new missionaries/inquisitors finished, make some new buttons and finish working on some new cutscenes for the new religions. :goodjob:

Honestly after that all we really have left to do is change some texts and music.

I've been looking at this thread for a while now and have been following it as well, amazing work and effort that you guys have been putting on it! I have only one question about a feature that is or isn't in the mod, the "Revolution modcomp". I really enjoy the challenge of it and was just wondering, if it's going to be implemented in the released version?

As of right now the final version of this mod will not include Revolutions. Mostly because I am WAY behind at the moment and still have a lot of work to do (although most of it is graphical).

I am certainly open to making a version of this mod with Revolutions. But it wouldn't be any time soon.

Capo, quick questions...
1. Did we ever finalize what Nationalistic would be?
and 2. What bonuses will Israel's UB get?

Been playing the last playtest with my girlfriend (good news, multiplayer's flawless. Yet to actually hit a bug.)
I set the Mossad to allow 4 spies to be set instead of 2 personally, not too powerful but given the power of the Maccabe I figure that it shouldn't be too strong.

Nationalistic is neat, but it still seems kinda weak with only the current bonuses. 25% towards national wonders is still neat, but since there's only a few nat wonders and they're pretty far apart, it's a bit subpar. +2 espionage is really nice though, but I'd still say it needs another small bonus ontop of that.
I was thinking maybe rather than cheaper buildings, we could always throw in a war weariness decrease.
If not that, I did have an idea that I thought would be awesome if it could be implemented, but might be impossible/difficult to do, so I thought I'd put it out there if anyone knew. Due to the strong nationalistic spirit of the nation, it should be difficult/impossible to culture flip their cities. I figure this'll lead to realistic situations where you can't just peacefully butt out leaders like Hitler, you're forced to actually go in with soldiers to grab their cities. Again, might be unimplementable/too difficult, and if it is war weariness decrease is also really nice. Nationalistic + Police State could become an awesome war combo.

Also, bit late but somehow I guess I never ran a game against them... the Khmer cultural borders colors is kinda irritating. It's impossible to see them on most non desert/snow tiles. Maybe make it slightly brighter? It's just pretty much the same shade of green as grasslands.

Also dunno if I've suggested it before, but came up while playing. It'd be neat to see a couple of new resources, maybe just a couple of major ones (tobacco and salt, due to the former's huge economic impact and the latter's impact on not only early economies but imperialism back to the classical era.)

Also not suggestions/complaints, just thoughts on the multiplayer we've run so far:
1. The AI is a -lot- smarter now for many leaders, to the degree that the game is much more difficult now depending on who I'm stuck with.
2. Ind/Phi isn't as bad as I expected. Solomon doesn't really do extraordinarily under AI, and admitedly I have issues balancing out his traits with not dying in the early game.
3. Thus far the most fun leaders to me are Seti, Maurya, and Abu Bakr. I'm not normally a militarian-REXer type but these three have won me over. I suck at Hitler, so I'm not sure how it is that his AI manages to get 6 heavily fortified cities up in the time it takes me to get 3 lightly defended cities up.

Thanks for the answer, Capo. I'll be downloading this MOD either way, just to let you know. It sounds amazing, no doubt it will be.

Thanks for the comments TAdF, I'll definitely take that into consideration. Right now I'm working on the next and hopefully last playtest before the polished version. All I really need to do is work on a few religion cutscenes and finish up some more units. But I'm glad it has been working for you so far. :goodjob:

Flawlessly, on marathon even through the late era. Nice finally having an expansive mod that doesn't start to crap out on me by that time, even old Diplomacy admitedly would MAF starting in the industrial era.

Those are some good suggestions, TAdF!
Nationalistic isn't perfectly balanced with the other traits yet
And we could really use a couple more resources :goodjob:

We'll have to test all of the air promos during playtesting to see how things go, I haven't handled it much myself since most of my time with the mod involves me fixing specific things that are wrong with it. I do play it just to see how it goes and so far it seems pretty good to me, but I'll see what you guys think during playtesting.

Anyway, it has been a while since I have been active so I have been searching around for things and I thought since platyping has done a lot of work on a lot of things (CHECK OUT HIS THREAD) from traits to wonders to projects it is at least worth a look to see if we'd like to add any to this mod. I remember a while back I wanted to add a bunch of different projects (Cure for Cancer, Magellan's expedition etc.) to the game this might be a good starting point.

Anything there you guys like?

Welcome back, Capo! Was starting to get worried.

I'm personally all for Cure for Cancer, Magellan's Expedition, Theory of Evolution, Silk Road, and probably SETI. Silk Road especially.
