I truly dislike the guys who program these things - computers and keyboards, that is.

At work I often bump a key, and strange things happen with Microsoft word - things that I didnt intend, and that I dont know how to disregard.

Well, it happens with civ too, of course.

I dropped my keyboard, must have touched the pause key when I picked it up, and now I am stuck on pause. Typewriters dont have pause. I dont see a pause button on my keyboard. I dont see any info about a pause button anywhere, though it must be there somewhere.

Please help me unpause my game.

Man, I love you guys!

Thanks, Civ on...

You don't own a typewriter, you own a computer, old-timer. ;) There's a world of difference, trust me, and I ain't never goin' back, nosireebob.

Manufacturers have unfortunately abandoned the idea of producing a standard keyboard, so things like the Pause/Break key get moved around willy-nilly. Like DaveMcW said, it's usually somewhere up and to the right of the main QWERTY keys, probably above the arrow keys or the numeric keypad somewhere.

Unless you have a laptop. Then the damn thing could be anywhere and require some esoteric key combination to activate it.

Good thing is, it should be labeled Pause or Break (on mine it's actually both). On the standard keyboards of the 90's it's to the right of the function (F1-F12) keys, but as Sisiutil says, if your keyboard doesn't follow that design, it can be anywhere, though I'd usually expect it to be somewhere on the sides.
On a laptop, there's probably no single key for that, instead you'll need the Fn (or whatever) button to enable the secondary function of some keys, which should be printed in different color on them. There should be Pause somewhere, too.

"CTRL-Z"... It is the solution to many a Word disaster... Pressince Ctrl-Z will undo just about any thing you do in word, and can be used to fix almost all incorect key strokes (it saves my neck at least 3 times a day!)
