Game Saturn

Congratulations on the Great Prophet, Joshua.

Yay, I finally found a 2nd city site that isn't crappy! Moving there now...

Is it south of you? If so I may beat you there. :goodjob:

On a completely unrelated note, I just saw the civstats page for a "Return to Daniapetu" and...how is your score more than double then second place player?!?

@ Dux - Yeah, 8 turn settlers here as well. It might actually be a bit longer since I like to work even plain coastal tiles for their 3 commerce while my workers are busy setting cottages up.

It's south of me, but north of Amethyst. So if you steal it, you'll be irritating two of us. :p

And as for the Duniapetu game - well, that just goes to show how No Tech Trading can unbalance a game. ;) I got off to a good start GNP-wise, and just kept it growing throughout the game. Wonders like the Great Lighthouse and Great Library helped. Expanded like crazy in the early game, had built 8 cities at around 400 BC. This slowed down my research a lot early on, but it began to pick up around 1 AD.

Then I was the first to get Macemen (by some 20-30 turns), and went trampling my next-door neighbour (who was formerly in 2nd place with 8 cities, now he has no cities left). Now I have 15 cities, and with the help of Monarchy and various trades I have cities that are already at size 15+. :)

I must say though, I was surprised how quickly I managed to gather such a lead. Part of it was that other people just didn't expand quickly enough in the early game, part of it was arranging alliances and diplomatic ties - and No Tech Trading did the rest. (Incidentally, this was the first game I've played with No Tech Trading, and I don't think I'll do it again for the very reason that it was too easy for one player to grab such a lead so early.) ;)

He wasn't taken care of properly in the very early game. ;)

Also I can make 7-turn settlers without chopping or overflow. Yay progress. :goodjob:

For those interested, here's a few screenies of the Duniapetu game from a few turns back (deliberately slightly out of date, so that those from this game who are also playing with me in that game don't get unnecessary info ;) ). You can get some sort of idea how the game played out by the graphs; Elkad (Rome) got off to an early lead in terms of military power and invaded Amethyst (Russia) with a tonne of Praetorians... but then his empire pretty much crumbled once I (Persia) invaded with Macemen. :)

Heh... actually, Elkad was far more of a threat to everyone in the early game than I was, hence why he was dealt with so swiftly. :)

Yeah, it's only hammers. Good for when you have a couple of mines up and running, though. :)

Yeah, and Elkad made a few major tactical errors at the beginning of that invasion, firstly over estimating his chances...these slowed him down considerably, allowing enough time for emperor to build up and attacking from his flank.

Emperor didn't do it all alone.

Dear silly little island,

No, of course I did not want horses. Why would I want horses? I have nothing cool that I could have built with them. Nah, it's great.

Thank you,
The management

:cowboy:

 Sorry to hear that. Sucks when you can't even build your UU.

Just founded my second city, yay! Now to try to build some Axemen before the barbarian hordes start rolling in...

Dude, it is not cool to aggressively settle on a game where we agree not to be aggressive. And especially when you make a non agreession pact the turn or two before...

And btw, settling closer to your neighbor than you, is aggressive settling.

Lol...

If we noticed with plako that we have same colour, i tought it will only make us unseparable on grafs, but look!

this is our border "line" :)

cant see any ? me neither :) looks like we are going to have some hard times when counting land...

I think this was supposed to be from Amethyst.

As I mentioned in our chat just now, the site was roughly equidistant (7 tiles from my capital, 8 tiles from Ame's capital if you want to get into specifics) - thus it was perfectly reasonable to consider it neutral territory and fair game. (I wouldn't have raised an issue if Ame had settled there before me.) ;)

It was my only reasonable shot at Copper, and with the land to the north all tundra and ice it was kind of logical to head southwest for my second city. Plus I assume Ame has many more options for expansion than I do, given her location in the middle of a vast continent (not wedged up in the north).

But sure, Ame and I will discuss settlement sites more carefully in future. I'm a pretty reasonable guy, I don't intend to cause offense. :)

Very annoying. Borderline is totally missing. I hope there is a way to change this.

I'd heard this could be an issue in some games, but thought they'd fixed it. Apparently not. ;)

I don't know of any way to change the colour of your borders mid-game. I suspect the only way to fix the problem is for one of you to eliminate the other. :ninja: :ar15: :D

I can be blamed for agressive settling. However my starting position would be quite unfair if I couldn't do that. I'm in the south western corner of the continent and I'm pretty certain it won't take long until all possible directions for expanding are blocked from me.

No no, it was from me. She only posts from her computer, I'm the one who has multiple personalities. And the copper is actually 7 tiles from her and 8 diagonal tiles from you, since we are talking about the copper. Meaning it is directly north of her and quite a bit away from her (I hate squares, they can't use hexes?). It makes a big difference in my book and also in the way maintenance is calculated. She may not be as upset as I am. If it were me, I probably wouldn't be as upset, but you know, you get more defensive when it is your gf/wife.

I just don't think it should be against one of those people who were assigned as protected until turn 100. I mean that's the whole point, right?

I thought we were talking about cities and borders though, since you said:

But either way, the spot was pretty much equal travelling time for either of our settlers/warriors, so I still think it was pretty reasonable to class it as neutral territory and fair game.

Yeah, fair enough. I've sent an apology to her just now, for any offense caused. I don't intend to come across as a sly jerk, you know. I play these games for enjoyment, not to try to one-up myself at other peoples' expense. :)

I know, there is no hard feelings really, I was just surprised, it wasn't like you and you know I added some catapults and macemen to her civ this turn from the server so don't expect to keep it for long. lol

Seriously, you have taught me a lot about civ tactics and general civ strategies over the years. Now...teach her too. :p
