I was just over at gamespot.com reading about the Civ3 Expansion when I decided to surf around the site a bit. I found mention of Gamespot Complete. I don't remember the whole deal but basically you can use Gamespot Free but the reviews are only up for 7 days. The Gamespot Complete customers can access them even after that. Gamespot Complete customers can also use Gamespots fast file servers to DL demos and patches and no ads.

I am not sure if this is worth 4.95$ a month. I already get CGW (Computer Gaming World magazine) and it only costs me 1$ a month (12$ a year subscription w/o CD) and it is where I get my reviews (I like the way these guys write and trust their opinions). What do you think?

No Way I'm not paying for that. There are many other sites to get reviews from. And if I want any tips or walk throughs I will go to GameFaq's. Reviews by people on forums have generally been better that reviews from thse big sites

Why would you pay for stuff you can get for free elsewhere on the internet? I think it's the big mistake of many companies that want to earn money through the internet, they just don't realise that people will look all over the internet to find the stuff they want for free and they are not just gonna spend money on it.

I don't think is a big mistake. If it was, they wouldn' t be doing it. It's pretty greedy though. But if you come to think about it, there are some people who pay to have AOL, so almost everyone think they can earn money from the internet. :D
In the matter of paying a game site, I can't find any good reason, at least for now, why I should do it. When there's an interest thing, I might think of it more carefully.

I sure won't pay for reviews I can get elsewhere for free on the internet. 4.95 a month is about 59.50$ (US$) a year. That's more than a complete new game. I wonder how much users they will fool with Gamespot Complete...:D

You are right Ren, it does.....:goodjob: You are such a cool guy. Thanks :D

I am of a similar mindset, but not primarily out of an aversion to the notion of paying for something, but simply because I operate all my transactions in cash (maintain opsec ;)), and thus find the constant Internet need for cledit cards quite shimmying.

I am just the opposite, I don't like using cash. I feel it so much safer not carrying money around so I stay away from cash. Someone want to watch what I buy? Well besides it being illegal to do that and also the fact that I don't do anything illegal (I would use cash then) I am only afraid of identity theft...but you can live in a cave for the rest of your life....unless you are Osma! ;)

Cashphobe!:p I guess it just depends what your circumstances are, and whether ye buy anything that needs a bit of accursed plastic.
And I like going around dressed like a pimp with huge rolls of cash, and green fur overcoats.[pimp] :D

The fact that they are doing it doesn't mean it might not be a mistake. Companies make mistakes all the time. Hell, just last week my company bought Australia expecting that they could sell it to New Zealand for a tidy profit, but the Kiwi's wouldn't pony up the cash, and we had to sell it back to the natives for a fraction of what we paid.

Since we are now posting where we get our gaming news:

www.firingsquad.com
They aren't great places but they are where I hit. TF knows of some good ones....if he ever happens to come in here maybe he will grant us that knowledge!
