Game "starts" but doesn't really

My units was one of those with the "play" list marked as Disk 2. I've dealt with that by sticking in the other CD, but when I click "play" on the Autorun screen or double-click on the desktop icon, the CD makes the normal noise of starting up, but no new window shows up. Task Manager confirms that the program is not running. What's going on?

This is the exact same problem I am encountering. My CD-ROM drive spins up like it wants to play, I get a small "loading" screen and it stops at something akin to "Initializing XML..." and dies.

I just read that the XML issue could be related to bad sound card drivers. I am going to try that when I get home, but can't let you know if it works for sure just yet.
