Game Suggestions: What would you like in a game?

I would like destructible environments to become a permanent fixture in every FPS and applicable games.

I've been having a lot of fun with the destructible enviroments in Bad Company 2, but there is something to be said for fixed-state maps. Sometimes it's best for the flow of the gameplay if the map design stays constant.

I don't know - two of my most memorable moments with recent games involve destructible environments. I had an epic battle in Company of Heroes focused around one hill, holding several buildings that, over the course of the mission were completely destroyed, and it was a delight to watch the troops (and myself) adapt to the changing environment.. In Bad Company 2 I (working on my Battlefield 2 instincts) ran into a building to escape a tank, only for it to blast the fraking wall down, then proceed to machine gun me down.

In the first case, it would have detracted from the atmosphere if the area I had spent 30 minutes in a protracted battle simply remained exactly the same as it had been at the start, and in the latter it simply adds to the thrill.

The destroyed building's rubble pile provides some excellent non-destructible cover too, even from mortars (not guaranteed and untested :p).

I would like a single company to seize Klonoa, Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, StarFox, the Grand Ashworth Fortune, and Onmyou Taisenki. Possibly Digimon and Pokemon as well. This pan-furry corporation would seek to control all furry franchises and characters, or at least have all the licenses.

From there, there'd be games, comics, animated series, etc. galore.

In particular, I'd like to see all these furry franchises band together in a Super Smash Bros. style fight game, with third party furries(Sparkster from Rocket Knight Adventures, King Kazma from Summer Wars, etc.) also invited.

I for one would do my part to advertise it.

In addition, there could be RTSes and RPGs based off these franchises.

Overall, I want more and more furries, and would definitely approve of more furry crossovers. A high-quality, completely furry RPG would probably become my WoW.

You should be wary of furry monopoly.

...There's an idea for a game!

Buy properties on Mobius, the Wumpa Islands, Lunatea, Corneria, etc.! :) Whoever wins social acceptance first with generous bribes wins!

But, yes, I find my free market principles contradicted in this field... maybe because I think furries would be more of a force if concentrated in one business enterprise.

That and I'd find the crossovers badass.

Oh I loves me some destructible enviroments, don't get me wrong, but there are a few advantages to fixed state enviroments as well.

Think of the roof over the central bridge on 2 Fort in TF2: it allows Scouts to double jump from one base to the other, and provides cover for players on the ground from Snipers up on the sniper gantry. It's an important part of the design, and part of the balance of the map is dependant on it remaining intact. Lots of other examples, but the point is imho that fixed maps can allow for more precise designs.

It doesn't have to be one or the other of course, you can go for a hybrid system whereby certain elements are destructible and others aren't which is probably the best solution, though a little harder to pull off in games with a more realistic aesthetic. BC2 does this, cheats a bit in the interests of balance, invincible shipping containers etc.

Having said that, having tanks be stopped in their tracks by telegraph poles is never, ever acceptable. :p

lol a sonic fps

Your description just made me crave Furry Hunter 3 (a la Deer Hunter).

Nah, too many people love Mario. Games have to cater to the mainstream, after all. (unless it's an indie production only a few people played)

Sega has never been a democracy... and for good reason. Our fandom is so batcrap insane and so divided we'd count as the framers' wet dream of divided government. People hate new Sonic games simply because of the fact he's taller, slimmer, or has green rather than brown eyes. I swear, is this a video game fandom, or a bunch of girls discussing how 10 pounds is the new 200?

I'm sure Sonic will be more well-loved too as time goes on, given that Sega has unveiled its new 2D side-series for people to indulge in. Seizing a large market share FTW.

Don't get me started on how Sega - even if it did screw up a little with that; homing attack in a 2D game? WTH - finally gave the Old School people their wish, and they hated it like there was no tomorrow. Some people just can't be reasoned with.

...so you lock them in a giant vault and don't open it until they've all gotten so bored they start destroying eachother instead. :mischief:

I personally think that games require better stealth mechanics than most currently do. Because it gets kind of annoying when a single enemy isolated from the rest of the group turns around and sees you for a fraction of a second and then you stab him and neither of you makes a sound and everyone else was looking in the opposite direction, but somehow that fraction of a second alerted everyone within a 2000 mile radius of where your standing of your presence.

Or you kill someone in an empty building in a room with no windows and heavily reinforced doors, and neither of you makes any noise and they don't suspect you will attack them, but somehow when you kill them every guard in the city magically knows not only that they were killed, but who did it, and where it was.

In fact, I can't think of a game that has had very good stealth mechanics since Chaos Theory, and being a bit of a backstabber, I think that sucks.

^ that...

also, bots seem to have uber x-ray vision in most FPS games (although I do tend to play older ones) and see players way too easily. Take, for example, Battlefield Vietnam; you're hiding under a lot of heavy undergrowth 200 meters from the nearest enemy, you snipe him, let's say you miss just barely, he and all his buddies instantly knows EXACTLY where you are and begins shooting you.

Or, you hide as an ambush, but they counter-snipe you with their invisible thermal vision goggles as soon as you enter their "Viewfield" of x meters, regardless of how well concealed you were.

I miss zombies in most games. They tend to make things more fun, always.

Luckily they can sometimes be modded in, like cod 2 multiplayer zombie mod.

Legen wait for it......DERY!!
