Game Suggestions: What would you like in a game?

A Spore game that didn't waste its potential. Deep, meaningful gameplay with scientific principles behind it.

You don't want a mod to see that.

Anyway, I've been thinking about Command and Conquer Renegade, and it would be neat to have a multiplayer FPS combined with an RTS. The highest ranked player on each side gets to take command of construction, resource collection, training, equipment, and (suggested) orders and have access to data regarding the battlefield from all sources and off-map support. I realize people wouldn't always want to follow orders, so some resources would be allocated to allow people to freely choose their equipment and vehicles. Better (and more expensive in terms of resource cost) equipment would be restricted to certain higher ranks.

The incentive for people to follow orders would be extra experience points, and the incentive to use allocated loadouts would be that they are more powerful than independent loadouts. Also, since the commander has more resources at his disposal than allocated resources for independent loadouts, they are more easily accessible to the soldiers. Cooperation is encouraged, and actions such as transporting allies to objectives and protecting allies has experience point rewards almost equal to direct action against the enemy.

Also, combine this with what I said in my first post in this thread. Going to post more ideas as they come.

There was a mod for Half-Life 1 called Natural Selection like that. One player on the human-team got to enter the command pod in order to give orders to people as a top-down RTS, and also lay down structures and such. It was rather popular so I'm sure you'll still find a dozen or two servers of people playing it.

Except take that and then have it developed by a company with more resources at its disposal. Also, there's no base building there.

I don't think we've ever had an X-com strategy shell (the research and base-building) mixed with FPS (e.g. a Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six squad game), or even RTS (e.g. Company of Heroes). EDIT: Scratch that last part, as I think RoN had like a a Risk shell to its RTS.

There's definitely been some RTS/FPS hybrids though. My fave is a HL2 mod. Forgets the name. Tremulous is a pretty good one too. I think the main problem is a lot people aren't really good at the RTS portions, and in general it requires clan-like teamwork that a lot of casual FPSers aren't dedicated to achieving. So ends up that there's lots of disappointment and 'griefing' during such a team game. I think that's the main reason why that type of game isn't more common.

There was base building, on both sides in fact.

A combination of Command and Conquer with Sonic the Hedgehog. Now some may say that "Sonic's about speed", but what's more speedy than a blitzkrieg?! That and, you know, I hate Classic junkies(if you hate the game so much, stop playing it... ), so they can kiss my behind. I'd enjoy this idea.

I'd also endorse a cooperative rival to Super Smash Bros., composed of characters from other companies, such as Rare and SEGA. Let's see Mario be a third party character! Also picture it. Sonic vs. Master Chief. What the hell.

If I was in control of that second project and had the resources required, I'd make it exclusively furry and branch across numerous furry franchises, new and old.

A third-person swordfighting game like the Jedi Outcast series, only without the jumping. and more based around blocking and deflecting than dodging attacks. Preferably set in the middle ages, that also has KOTOResque roleplaying options, cavalry sections and a plotline that does not involve the Holy Grail, the Da Vinci Code or the Knights Templar.

Prince of Persia?

The fighting in the PoP series is essentially camera based, and the challenge is dealing with what's coming at you from the right angle.

Natural Selection 2 is being released soon, and is taking pre-orders.

A re-released graphically updated version of Command HQ with decent multiplayer. Spent many nights stopping soviet agression.

Space strategy game with lots of terraforming elements in it.

Battlefield-type FPS where the factions are asymmetric, ie don't have the exact same equipment except with a different skin. Think CnC generals where the "freedom fighter" faction don't have air force but other stuff that puts them on equal footing with the other factions.

Total War (without RTS battle) + Final Fantasy + Siddys Pirates + Xenosaga

like that combi
