I was curious as to what others think concerning which PC strategy game has the best diplomacy? For me, I feel like it's Alpha Centauri. But I still haven't found a game that I think has a great diplomacy model. I can only hope that Civ 5 will have much deeper diplomacy (as I did for Civ3 & 4 :( )

Diplomacy!

Well, maybe not, dunno, never played it. Europa Universailles III (and II maybe?) have really good diplomacy. Knights of Hnour has the usual optinos but the AI is actually capable of understanding diplomacy and will usually not make incredibly unreasonable requests.

Galatic Civilizations 2.

Civ4: BTS is close with religions included, but default isn't as flexible as GalCiv2's default.

Diplomacy has good diplomacy, but you need to play with six other players. It's very intense. :p For example, one of my friends wouldn't talk to me for three days after I'd stabbed him. :(

As Germany, I once refused to make an alliance with Austria along the usual Austro-German lines because the Austrian player was the rebound for my ex-girlfriend. (I ended up going out fifth, after the savage surprise attack into Bohemia in conjunction with a supported Italian move to Tyrolia totally took him by surprise and allowed a fast partitioning. In the end, France and Russian caught me and Italy in between after a pretty epic multi-sided Northern War over the remains of Britain and its Scandinavian possessions.)
Did you stab him in the throat?
:rotfl:

...that wasn't amusing at all.

Hearts of Iron have a good diplomacy system, even though It's much better with humans players. What is this diplomacy game? Is it similar to Europa Universalis?

Diplomacy is a board game that is purely about diplomatic actions.

It has been ported to computers at least 3 times to my knowledge. Sadly, the AI has (not surprisingly) not been up to the task of playing a sneaky game against sneaky humans.

Also played as a forum game. Warning: I will rage quit in Diplomacy if you sneak attack me on turn 1.

Yeah, that's really the main point of this thread. Single player AI diplomacy is what I'm looking for.

I know, somebody asked what the game Diplomacy was.

NESing has the best Diplomacy, even for the NPCs!

Go pwn yourselves with its cheep but labor intensive awesomness! Link was generously supplied by a friend.

Single-player AI diplomacy and NESing have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Yet.

Master of the Orion 3...but the game is so bad overall when you come longer and logner into it that the diplomacy doesn't do it for you. Your empire simply gets to big. I guess this explains why big empires always fall down if they are ruled by a dictator...it's just to much to look after.

Hearts of Iron 2 is pretty good.

Civ 4 with BTS I guess but I can't stand Civ 4 anymore...

BUT THE ABSOLUTELY BEST GAME IS:

REPUBLIC: THE REVOLUTION
Oh man if you want diplomacy this is it. The whole game is almost only diplomacy.
And boy...it's alot of diplomacy to do,. I never liked it, to time consuming and the minigame when you talk to people is bad. But overall its the best in diplomacy and AI diplomacy I've ever seen.

Seriously, how is Galactic Civilizations 2 better than MoO 3 though? To me it seems combat and space are more simplified and less detailed and while I am reading that the AI is alot better in GC2 (thank god) that can't justify the game alone. Mostly the combat seems oversimplified compared to MoO3 where the combat is awesome even though its simple. Tactics play a bigger role where as (from what I have read) only initial strategic buildup plays any role in GC2.

For example spacecombat seems to be just as simple as the groundcombat in MoO3. I can't find even a single video of GC2 combat.
