GameReactor Civ4 Video from E3

Unit trading!!!!!!
Yes, but only in Multi-player, as far as we know (unless some nice gent from Firaxis wants to confirm or deny it ;)!)
Not much, I know, but I did see 'Organised Religion' under the Religion Civic. I think it gave lower upkeep??? Can't be sure of that though.

How would you implement a gold slider? In civ3 your gold slider is effectively the same as your technology and entertainment slider.

Oh, well,
If i'm not totally wrong, u need an account at Game Reactor 2 view that file ?

Might have worked yesterday, when they didn't notice that someone had posted it, but now it seems to be down, or am i missing something ?

If u try to view it from the gamereactor mainpage, it says that u need to register to view the movie  .

Oh my god, oh my god, whats wrong with you americans? Why don't girls look like girls, and guy's like guy's? Elf look? What the hell is that. I need a shower so bad now.

Back on topic. Unit trading, yes! Man i can't wait to pick a small nation and pump them full with gold and the latest units so they can attack my arch enemy without me going to war myself. Proxy wars here i come!

Where are you from? Here in Finland every hippie guy looks like that. :p

It seems that they restricted the access to magazine subscribers. A couple of hours ago I was able to view the video but not anymore.

Yeah right!
Awesome! More MMing! :shakehead Regarding the Q&A from this spanish site I desperately hope Barry Caudill means what he says: "In addition, we are trying to eliminate micro-management for its own sake in the form of chasing pollution or managing corruption in individual cities" IMO, they should eliminate even more MMing, but this will stay a wish, I guess...

It was streeming only when I saw it. No download.

Direct download: mms://81.7.156.25/gamereactor/civilization4.wmv

Works fine for me!

Wonder what the spiral minaret does?

also called Malwiyya, t's interesting that they chose a wonder from what is now modern day iraq. it's a minaret of a mosque that was built who tried moving the capital of the abbasid caliphate from baghdad to samarra, altho some believe that the structure was built long before the mosque.

almalweyya.jpg

"The spiral Malwiya Minaret is about 25 meters far from the mosque's northern wall. It lies exactly on its middle axis. It stands on a quadrangular basis of 32 meters for each side. Above it there is a spiral building with stairs of 2,3 meters in width and starts from the middle of the eastern side of the basis and turns anti-clock-wise completing by this five rounds that end in a small cylindrical room of a 6-meter radius. Its is decorated with 8 arcs from the outside. Each arc is erected on two small brick posts. One of these posts forms a door where the ascent ends and leads to a small ladder that ends on the top of the minaret."

Oh, back O/T. When I checked out the video earlier, I DID notice something interesting. When units went head to head, there were a NUMBER of times when individual men-within a unit-did NOT get killed the first time they were hit. Sometimes it looked like the man was deflecting the shot. Other times it appeared as though they were simply 'taking it like a man'. Could this be proof that-though individual men=unit HP's-that each individual man can absorb a certain amount of damage before dying?
Also, related to this, a number of times two men from opposing units 'CLASHED', with neither side seeming to go down-or even take damage (the deflection I mentioned). This could mean that individual 'clashes' between men within a unit no longer needs to result in one side-or the other-losing a HP. i.e, we seem to be having so-called 'stalemates' within each clash.
Lastly, though some units were clearly BETTER than others in combat, I think its pretty clear this is no simple RPS system. When spearmen went up against horsemen YES the former did win, but only JUST (1 man left standing I believe). Again, this really fills me with confidence :)!

something somewhere mentioned that certain units, like i think cannons or some kind of artillery work in a way where they can do damage upon a stacked group, as opposed to one at a time.

I think it could have been just a "miss" ... so not every attack inflicts damage on the opponent (Riders rinding in 100m distance of Spearmen ... all they can do is to wave a "hello" to them :D ).
They said they wanted a RPG type battle system ... ever played D&D!? If you fail to throw a certain number within you attack range you'll only hit air :) .
(Argh ... crappy explanation ... can somebody help me out? :crazyeye: )
