"GAMESPY" powered - no comments

Yeah, I learned just yesterday from someone that GS still hosts the online play... completely ridiculous that we didn't get private servers, but what you gonna do?

Nah, the Steam server is more or less just there to make pirating the game harder. Far as I've heard the only normal Steam perks that you actually get are the ability to download the game from the internet anywhere and to use the Steam friend/chat functions while in game. I have no idea why private servers weren't even an option.

Steam also allows you to save your game to the "cloud" - it's built right in and is kinda nice actually - should you have multiple computers you want to play at - you would in theory have access to them.

Also - there is a private server coming - it's called Pitboss - and they said it would be coming about a month after launch... along with play by email.

As far as I know Steamworks is the engine behind the p2p game/matchmaking, the Gamespy logo is because the Mod/Community Hub is using Gamespy, and they can hardly screw that up :P

im surprised they are still with gamespy. Anyone ever play Civ Rev multiplayer on the PS3? gamespy could never figure out the problem and it still broken to this day

Thanks for the feedback. We will be improving multiplayer in free updates to the game.

One small note: The multiplayer is all powered by Steamworks, not Gamespy.

I was under the impression that gamespy was only being used for the mod browser. "powered by gamespy" is just their generic badge.

I s'pose that's pretty much what CS said.

Yes since they are using GS for something, GS is going to insist that the "powered by Gamespy" logo is in the game, in previous games this meant that the lobby and matchmaking was using GS, but that is not the case in Civ5....thank god!

gamespy was loads better than the piece of crap we ended up with

You must not have played MP with GS very much or your are confusing game bugs with the Steam back end, I guarentee that once the game bugs are patched, that Steamworks is much better than Gamespy.

Try doing a Google search for Steamworks problems and compare that to a Google search for Gamespy problems, I'm 110% sure that you will see very few complaints from players from other Steam powered games, and loads and loads of complaints about GS.

Given the only time I saw GS was in the mod buddy, I'm fairly certain GS runs our downloadable mod service. I Noticed it was a little buggy on loading so it sounds like their work, hopefully it will still work with the bigger files and number of mods but for now it seems pretty decent.

i think there was typo.... its powdered with gamespy, a cake itself working as CS steam stuff.. it is better than any gamespy activities i encountered with civ or homewolrds till now... at start it is confusing for new user but then you get used to it.... so lets hope its just typo and it is only powdered :V
