They went last year didn't they? If so, I assume it's a reasonable chance they'll be there this year too. That is, if they have something to announce or show off.:mischief:

Would they go if they have nothing to announce? Doesn't have to be anything big. They could be promoting Civ World or another Railroad game for all it matters, but I assume they wouldn't be there with nothing to do.

Can't find any english news, but the german version of the 2KGames site (click) says nothing about Civ5, only about the next parts of Borderlands, Bioshock, NBA and The Darkness.

Will not go their just to see something by chance.
Without civ, there's not enough for me to go there (most of what is see as interesting got destroyed by online DRM ), and since my father told me that he found parts of my car in the front yard, the only thing where i'll go to in the next days is not Cologne, but the car mechanic.
And even with Civ5, i would not have been sure if it was again worth a 4 hours ride (one way).

-> but the lineup already says it: Nothing to see here :/.

Sorry to hear you won't be going.:(
Is anyone?
Maybe some players in Europe?
I saw a German video with subtitles, they too didn't say anything about Firaxis being there.

Is Gamescom bigger then E3? I don't see why they'd skip E3 and go to Gamescom unless something has developed in that time period.

It is, at least in terms of attendance. This year's E3 had about 50k, the Gamescom something around 250k.

Lots of people do that.
Gamescom is a bigger show, gets a lot more coverage, and is later on in the year, so there is a bigger chance that something new will be announced.

While that's an idea, isn't it being contracted out to a third party?

If they come, and announce an expansion, it better be an expansion with religion and corporation mechanics. Or just something in the same spirit as Civ4 Beyond The Sword. Civ5 has so much potential if they just add SOMETHING beyond warfare.

Firaxis, i'll throw my money at you if you do this. Your choice, want money or not? ^_^
But..... It will probably just be some unit pack dlc or something along those lines.

I agree that there should be probably at least three distinct features, plus civs, plus other worthwhile stuff. I don't think it necessarily has to be the specific features of past games (I'm referring to corps, since I've been on record for disliking them). I suspect espionage would be one. Of course, the inevitable backlash would be "should have been included originally," so I suspect there's a bit of a "can't win" there.

Of course, the shock to the wallet of an expansion pack (since it's all at once) gives me pause. DLC is nice because it doesn't sting as much.

Expansion Pack! Expansion Pack! Expansion Pack! :D I will also throw my money at them if they do so!

They could call it "Diplomacy" and introduce diplomacy.
Anyway, since I live near Cologne I could go check it out.
