Grumpy Old Griper
I love gardening, being able to grow and then eat fresh produce from your own garden is one of the joys of life.
We're very fortunate in Melbourne with the climate which allows us to grow all sorts of vegetables, fruit and ornamental plants. In our garden we grow plums, apples, peaches, figs, olives, eggplants and I've planted an avocado tree although we're yet to get any fruit.
I've also planted a small vegie and herb garden in which, over the summer, I grew tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, silverbeet, capsicum, butter beans. I'm just about to plant my winter vegies such as carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, potatos and green beans.
Apart from a number of insect pests and plant diseases, our biggest problem are the birds and possums. We get flocks of Sulphur Crested Cockatoos that descend on our neighbours Walnut tree and then move into our place. Possums are also a problem and there is little I can (legally) do about them because they're a protected species.
Some of my favourite ornamentals are Rhodadenrons, Azaleas, Camellias and Gardenias.
