Gary's Poser Unit Creation Thread and Workshop

I like the guy on the right. :)

Great stuff as usual, Gary. I'm following with interest.

One thing about your German WWII soldiers always throws me off "somewhat", is that you never use the characteristic "Knobelbecher" boots. I think your SS Panzergrenadier would benefit from those boots...

Weren't the Knobelbecher boots more often for parades and officers? Judging from my osprey series on the German army it looks like most of the regular combat troops mainly wore shoes with gaiters or something along those lines.

In the later years of the war, the Waffen-SS did wear laced boots and baggy pants, but standard issue to the Wehrmacht throughout the war, and for the Waffen-SS in the early years were "Knobelbecher" boots.

Just some doodling here, tentatively thinking of doing a unit:

Also, HI GARY. HOW HAVE YOU BEEN.

OK. The moment of truth...

Which one looks better? The one on the left has been sharpened using photoshop, the one on the right has not.

My preference is for the sharpened one. To me it blends in better with the Firaxis units in the game.

Nice work! I like the right one better (not sharpened) because it blends better with the terrain and looks less artificial.

Do you consider making a Russian infantry with helmet, too? :)

I like #2. I don't know what program Firaxis used to make it's units, because the real only difference is that their units are not anti-alias'd on the edges (you can see the blocky pixels around the edges); whereas programs we use they anti-alias the edges of the unit slightly with the magenta background.

I think the unit #2 is like Firaxis units just without the blended edges (which I wasn't able to easily achieve even in 3ds, and it made everything look worse without slight edge blend). Plus Firaxis units didn't have much detail on them.
