[GS] Gathering Storm Screenshots Discussion Thread

Hungary warrior unit have Hungary-colored clothes (like their musketmen did too),

also some of the men on the Warrior unit have these fur-things over their shoulders, did they have them before?

edit: also the Catapult unit (of hungary) has two medieval-era crews standing next to it having the same shields as the "new" looking swordsmen.

In normal Civ VI catapults have warriors standing next to it, maybe catapults built during medieval era have this medieval-stylished crewmen?

If they're not going to add maritime city states, that's a great improvement. Now if only they would give something at 9 or 10 envoys to buff tier 3 buildings.
You may not have recognized it because up to now it's been primarily a source of disinformation.
They've moved it to the other side, I think. It's getting harder to keep track of what is where.

Out of curiosity, has anyone identified the volcano in the Gathering Storm wallpaper yet?

I assume it was Vesuvius or at least a representation of it

I think I have seen them before on Babarian Warrior units before.

You can tell that the GS Barbarian units have more of a red theme, which is nice. I hope they apply more of this "teamcolor" differentiation to all civilization units. It has been lacking up until now.

I don't think there is only one unique palace among the remaining 7 civs.

The "two new city sets" may refer to styles of generic buildings in the city center during Classical to Renaissance eras.

Or, it could even mean "there are two new styles for all cities - city with a ship dock, and city with a canal".

Anyway, I think most new civs will have a unique palace, just like R&F.

Yes, as I said. :p

I saw this image on AriochIV's site, taken from around 1:32 on Hungary's first look video:

It's showing what is possibly the new Skirmisher unit, but what is that unit right above it on the top left? It's super grainy and might just be a builder, but it also looks a bit like line infantry or a rifleman perhaps? I'm not sure if I'm seeing a cap and pick or a tricorne hat and rifle....

Updated the Features Thread with some new wonder info and added Hungary's Agenda

First look, it seems to me he's carrying an axe. ¿new model for workers perhaps?

It looks like an axe and a backpack to me. Civil engineer to build railroads and so maybe?

Does the reference to “When you levy units from a City State” imply you can levy units from anyone else? Maybe you can levy from Allies?

Important change for mercantile city states. They now give extra gold for both commercial hub and harbor buildings.

Fez gives you bonus 20 science for converting cities for the first time.

so I guess that unit must be the Courser which the Black Army replaces...

Hmm. I’m a bit sorry Harbours are now getting gold from City States. I know, I know, lots of people have asked for it. And hey, it buffs England, and also a few other nautical Civs (Norway, Spain, Dutch). I might have asked for this too at one point.

But I prefer a bit more asymmetry in the game. Having Harbours track Commercial Hubs too closely makes them both less interesting. Hmm. Interesting though that they have the gold bonus for level 2 and 3. Suggests the Harbour and Commercial Hub gold bonuses stack? So, buff to Harbour Commercial Hub triangles... which makes me happy again....?

Man. This expansion just needs to come out already.

The additional unit thing is... interesting. I’m a big fan of the unit gaps. They add some good strategic choices (...or would if the AI could put up a better fight...). Filling gaps will buff unit lines, particularly Heavy Cav which is already way powerful, and there already isn’t time to build all the things. ... but hopefully they’ve thought all this through, and I know some gaps have been particularly jarring for some - eg Knights to Tanks.

Good catch!

Also, why do you need Animal Husbands to see Horses now? I don’t get why his change was needed at all.

Hmm. Some of these tweaks are a bit... concerning... I think there might also be a lot of rebalancing after the expansion comes out. Although, you know, hopefully England won’t get nerfed again...

Yes, I've always been concerned when I hear thundering hooves and can't see any animals until I Husband them...

You guys act like hidden Horses is some strange new concept, when it's been that way in pretty much every previous Civilization iteration.

It's just the normal Industrial-era Builder.

I sort of knew that on some level, but poor eye sight and a desire for something between muskets and infantry made me see a tricorne hat. :crazyeye:

Heh. Where did the horses hide? Maybe they were ninja horses?

Yeah. I get hiding horses was done before and has some logic. But I think how it worked in Civ VI before was better.

First. It added a strategic element right from the start - do I gab the horses, or stop someone else grabbing them? Are they going to spawn horse archers? No horses around - so should I rush iron now so I have at least something with some punch?

Second. It also made light Cav sort of “strategic resource light” in that horses were the only resources you needed for light Cav regardless of era, and you could see the, from the start.

FXS often make very good balance changes. But they also do some bone headed stuff sometimes.
