Civ3 Game of the Month VII: May 2002

It's time for the first Deity game now. I've made the world completely random, yet I've played some turn and I think it's quite doable. And if it isn't, you certainly won't be the only one who loses. So just give it a shot, ace.
Here are the detailed Game Parameters:

Civilization: Iroquois
Leader: Hiawatha
Difficulty Level: Deity
Land Form: Random
Land mass: Random
Map Size: Standard
Rivals: 7 Random Rivals
Climate: Random
Temperature: Random
Earth: Random
Barbarians: Random
Victory Conditions: All

This game plays as a vanilla Civ III game (no addons required).

Time to set your roster order and discuss your opening moves.

To harbor, or not to harbor? That i the question.

:hatsoff:

Checking in.

Howdy, all. And a big welcome to TemporalAnomaly :wavey:

Lazy slug that I am I'd settle right on the spot.

Perhaps there is a fog gazer on the team?

Who wants to open?

2 SW is grassland, 2N might be as well if that helps.

I'll bet my scarf that this is a pensula and the E & W bodies of water are ocean; that would sugest oppoents to the south only or a small island.

Bede, thank you for the welcome; I'm not the most confortable on Diety and am a poor warrior (unlike everyone else here it seems), but the 100K victory is a specialty of mine.

Checking in. Maybe scout to the s, se with the scout and see if there will be any fishes swimming about the coast. If not, settling in place is fine with me.

checking in :salute:
concur with rrau for opening moves

have only played a few deity games, never won with 100k (never tried though). but thats why i joined :D
i would have preferred another civ, but i like the religious trait ;)

Research Target?
I vote for the poly/monarc gambit.

Who's on first?

Waiting for Bugs and jb to check in.

100K culture means build lots of towns and temples out of the box. Then the empire gets top-heavy with expense, so markets and Republic should be the research targets.

We are REL/EXP so need scouts and then warriors for goody hut busting and protection from the neighbors.

All things being equal for 100k territory is the first concern. Wide city spacing at frist followed by crazy ICS after all available land is garbed. Then comes the culture rushing orgy.

I agree an early repulic works well, but OCN will really eat us later so, Monarcy with its unit suport may work better later.

For our map it looks like Mounted Warrior are going to pay a visit to least one maybe three AI. :D

Once we have an area scouted, I would like to see dot maps that has as many cities packed in as possible. Then make early founding only on the dots.

I claim slot #6!

:salute: Commander Bugs reporting for duty. Harboring might be a good idea here. Looks like we are on an ithmus or a peninsula. might need the room for a city. Unless the other moves indicate otherwise, settler east may be our best move.

Since all but jb have checked in, here is a suggested roster:

rrau - will you open the dance?
el_filet - in the stag line
Bede - wall flower
Sir Bugsy
TemporalAnomaly
jb1964

Seems opening should be worker to the BG, settler northeast to coast, scout northwest-west. Just my notion.

Bede, why not scout south? Considering our latitude, other cives should be south.

Ok, got it. I would like more discussion on opening moves before I start. We don't seem to have a consensus yet.

[edit] sent jb a pm.

Scout south, or west then south, it's a horse apiece.

I think the only critical thing is keeping the two BG in the initial city radius.

I concur. On further study, I like settler moving NE also. I'd plan on building at least two scouts.

Edit - I like that roster, Bede. Following you is always a joy.

Need at least two more scouts right out of the box.

@Bugsy, thought you'd like that. goz keeps catching a handful of extra gold in one of the other games....I must be slipping a little.

Mysticism get us down the cultural path....though who else is on the map? This is Deity, after all.

@TempA, you're dealing with a bunch of warmongers, here, though that's not all bad in a 100K game. What does your 100K expereince tell you?

Hola, jb reporting for duty.

I vote for settling to the NE and sending our worker to the tile due East of that point.

I would send the scout South and then SW into the forest.

here's a screenie. I have to go Christmas shopping this afternoon, so I'll get the rest this evening.

Plan: settle where the settler is then start minimum research on either alphabet or mysticism. I favor mysticism.
