As someone who receives mail about once a month mis-identifying my gender, I can certainly comiserate about the feeling. If it's a sender I care about, I will correct them. If it's not, I will ignore them (not literally). I've seen several posters deal with it in this way, and it's quite effective. If you're mis-identified, just post a reply, correcting the error. Word of mouth, and use of gender-specific pronouns usually leads most people to the correct gender.
@Sirp, I understand your POV. I guess if a guy wants to lead an alternate gender on a message board, then that's his choice.
