It is the 18th century in Europe. Overseas trade is booming and this city had more trade passing through it than Glasgow, Bristol or Liverpool. In fact, the only city with greater value in overseas trade is London.
Nope. The VOC was in decline from the 1730s and Rotterdam doesn't even feature on my source. Amsterdam does and the value of its overseas trade was approximately the same as Bristol.
