General Knowledge Quiz

My shot in the dark would also be the Tower of London. But thats not it.

I don't know either, but I'm with Olav, it's definitely somewhere in France ;).

Steph knows more about France than all of us French guys combined. :)

EDIT : btw Steph, did you mean tallest building or highest altitude ?

I mean tallest building.
The tower of London is a dwarf compared to this keep... It's twice lower...
The keep was the main tower of a larger castle, and even the "small" angle towers of this castle were taller than the Tower of London.

The castle is in France. The size of the keep made the lord of the castle very proud, and they adopted this rhyme

"Roi ne suis, ne Prince ne Duc ne Comte aussi; Je suis le sire de X" ("I am not a King, nor Prince nor Duke nor Count; I am the Lord of X").

X being the name of the castle of course.

If nobody finds it, I'll give you a hint that will help you find where it is located.

Just a few random names for cities and villages near where I grew up:
Annecy, Chambéry, Rumilly, Lovagny, Etercy, Sillingy.... All rhyme with aussi...

I'm not sure it will really help, athough it narrows the possibility to just a few hundreds instead of a few thousands.

Yep! That's Coucy, you got half of the answer. You just have to give the height of the keep now.

By the way, the hint would have been "it was destroyed by the German army in 1917", this would have helped find it was in a part of France occupied by the Germans at the time.

Me?
OK.

Which countries (in order) are the top 5 highest in current account balance, and which are the 5 lowest?
Current Account Balance is not GDP, account balance records a country's net trade in goods and services, plus net earnings from rents, interest, profits, and dividends, and net transfer payments to and from the rest of the world during the period specified.

Sorry for bad wording...

Just guessing from me:

Highest:

1. USA
2. China
3. Germany
4. Japan
5. France

Lowest:

1. Malawi
2. Djibouti
3. Lesotho
4. Sierra Leone
5. Some random country/island in the Pacific.

Nope. Here is a hint

The country with the lowest account balance is substatially richer (in other terms) than the highest.
Weird huh?

And about your answer, China, Germany, and Japan are correct as among the 5 highest but in the wrong position (rank order).

So USA is at the bottom? Strange, but it sounds plausible though. New attempt:

1. China
2. Germany
3. Japan
4. Russia
5. Norway

1. USA
2, 3, 4 and 5: I don't know it.

China is correct. China has the highest current account balance in the world.
US is correct. US has the lowest current account balance in the world.
Russia, Germany and Japan are in the wrong order.

Hints: All of the bottom 5 are relatively rich countries (in other terms)
When you think of the remianing one of the top 5, think oil.

I won't give the answer as I wikied it, but there is an interesting figure.

From 164 countries in the list, if we sum the countries with a deficit, ranked 112 to 163 (the other countries are non significant), we get -676,631 millions $.

And the country ranked 164, the USA, has alone a deficit of -731,214 millions $!

So more than the next 51 countries! And I suspect it's more than all the other countries put togther.

On the other hand, the country with the most surplus is only 30% more than the 2nd one.

Careful with those stats Steph - the American economy is HUGE, so it is able to handle a larger negative current acc't balance than smaller countries. As a % of their GDP, the US might not be so bad (I don't know).

Guesses for the bottom:
Britain, New Zealand, Argentina, Mexico, Canada?
