General Turn Discussion

so i think 1 move SW would be nice now :) then SE SE SE to get under the mountain ridge south of our capital.
That assumes Sulla hasn't done something funny with these rigid lines, just the pattern of them so far makes me wonder....

We did ask for natural barriers. I suppose, in that sense, he didn't disappoint!

Seriously though, I am interested in how these mountains are going to box us in. It seems that either the Capitol is to the Western edge of an open landmass (divided by the mtns to the S and W of Inner Sanctum) or our starting location is a geographic stronghold (surrounded on all sides by impassable terrain).

There are quite obviously choke points. We should attempt to have these areas within our borders. Also, I imagine they will be prime locations for garrisoned forts once tensions rise, whether they are within our borders or not.

Finally, if our region can be used as an indicator for the map, there will be a lot of mountains out there...this means that, potentially, everyone will be faced with a situation similar to ours -- for instance, do we grab the wheat and the gems or the wheat and the river?

Problem with wheat and gems city as I see it: it requires IW to use the gems. Settling the wheat city as it is now is going to limit it in size for most of the game (and until we get windmills and the improved windmills with electricity it isn't going to be an uber city).

It'd be a brilliant military camp city, just building military units, workers and settlers as required and doesn't have anything but a barracks and granary when we can get the city to grow above size 4. Giving the city gems means we would want a library in there to power science etc, whereas that gems might be able to fit into a better city site further douth that can also be cottaged.

So I'd lean towards the wheat/river city, and I wouldn't be opposed to settling it on the grass hill so that atleast when we get bio the plains tiles will produce some food...

I am for going for the wheat (and copper that will show up in one thsoe hills, think positive ;) ) and the river.

Why? because if we do, before we have iron working the borders of that city will have popped 2 times thus incorporating the gems for hte :) bonus. That way a city further to the S of the Wheat (maybe on the river to be further exposed next turn) can incorporate the gems.

I also lean toward the Wheat/River city.

Here's a big-picture shot for the discussion of the warrior
Taken from the start of turn 7 - before we play:

To me, it looks like SW (1) is our best move with the warrior.

I'm in favour of the production city right now. Another city by the southern river can pick up those gems just as well.

Warrior SW now, or we'll just run into a wall of mountains.

I believe we are up...ALL tiles south of the gems look like jungle, so probably not going to see much, that being said, SW(1) gives best shot at 2 tile view.

As for the Wheat site...all 3 PH's N of the wheat will be better locations if there is more food N. If there is NOT more food, then production city for sure, leave the gems for better use in another city.

SW. We need to see around the corner of that river to know how best to use the gems.

-- Starts turn 8 discussion --

With all the mountains in view, seems we have to choose between SE - or just heading home now.

Personally, I think we must know for sure if this is a dead end, or if there's a gap in the mountains. So I vote SE (3) for our next warrior move.

@All - please go look at my proposed constitution and offer your thoughts.
We need to get someone in charge of our military so we can get this warrior unit named!!

SE is my vote. If we know that it is a dead end then all we need is 1 fog buster unit and we are safe in that direction.

Put me down for a SE vote as well.
Must know what the bad man is up to!

SE for sure....

Doesn't our capitol look like a spiffy production city? 2 food bonuses plus a bunch of hills. Maybe a site by the cow makes for a good cottage spam site for a second science city.
