Generic Modern Special Forces

This new guy needs a good sun tan, if you want him to look middle-eastern :mischief: One more nit-pick : is his AK pure black (I mean 0-0-0) ? It looks too dark, the sun doesn't reflect on it.

The AK is actually a little off black. Up close it reflects light but at civ scale you can't see any of the reflections.

I'm working on one other middle eastern unit. I'll try to make him a little darker skin. It's too late to redo this entire unit.

[EDIT: I have known a few people from the middle east who weren't real dark skin. But I will make the next unit darker.]

[EDIT2: I'll try to redo the Elite middle east unit with darker skin color. However, I'm going to make a couple changes to the unit when I redo it. I plan on taking the back pack off him and doing the beret so that it is civ color. ]

I've been working on the color of the AK a little. Also I darkened the skin a bit for the next guy. Hopefully I should have him done sometime tomorrow. The next unit will be an Islamic militant.

Can't wait for the militant. Eons ago I made a unit concept sketch of one, complete with kaffiyeh, AK-47 and RPG...

I like the units. I wouldn't be too worried about comments from the peanut gallery, you always make sharp looking troops. Besides that, the Middle-east specific guy looks exactly like many of the western troops stationed abroad, so it still fills a niche nicely. I myself was stationed in the mideast for some time, and you're right, not everyone is as dark as television would have us believe. Anatolia and Mesopotamia have been the crossroads of civilization for centuries.

Many thanks all! The thing I like most about unit making is all the positive feedback I always receive. That always seems to keep me coming back for more, making more units. The constructive criticism isn't as fun for me  but, thanks to the constructive criticism I've received, I think my units have been getting better as I go along. So thanks everyone for both. :)

Hey Gary I got an idea!! Why won't we give the Middle East guy a t'shirt or rolled up arm shirt (damm! Dunno the english word for it) :P

I tried a shirt with rolled up sleeves which I have but it made the figure look too thin. I can do some more experimenting with it to see if I can bulk it up some.

WOW, these are very good ones. I like your modern series very much :goodjob:

Superb work, thanks, Gary!!!

Many thanks John! This is also my first series of units where both hands are on their weapons during the run animation. I have to agree with those who were saying both hands on the weapon makes a more natural looking run.

OK. Last (I think) but not least of the elite units, I've added an African elite unit to the original post. Check it out. It should serve nicely for Zulus or whatever African civ your mod may feature. :)

This guy's great, the AK is much better this way IMO.

We're the Special Forces of Generica!

I have a proposal (a wish, if you like): The African Guy and the Arab would make fantastic generic modern infantry. Maybe you could give them helmets instead of the soft covers to make them distinctive from the other units (I'll use them as modern paratroopers to replace the crappy firaxis one)? Or remove the backpack? That would be great. :)

Good work, Gary.

Thanks Ares! Do you just basically want the African and Militant with helmets then? Everything else stays the same? I assume you want paradrops with both units as well? :)

EDIT: Also what sort of helmets do you think they should get. I have US, Italian, German, German Para, British, Japanese, pith and a kind of morphable helmet which I can use to a limited extent to create different helmets.

EDIT2: Would something like this be sufficient:

Green shirt, perhaps (same color as the pants, makes it look more like an uniform)? Otherwise, great. Paradrop or backpack is not needed, but I wouldn't be unhappy either ;) Helmet is ok.
