German interior ministers discuss banning Scientology

Interesting, so if 90% of Germans decided they wanted to change the govt they would all be basicly traitors?
no not the government - the constitutional order - but yes. You can legally get rid of the government and elect someone else, you cannot legally get rid of the things set out in articles 1 and 20. Of course if 90% of Germans would agree on getting rid of the constitution and making a new one I don't think this constitution would survive...
Edit: actually: treason is not the right word. I would have the right to resist this, as has the government - whether it would be treason would be a different story. The organization that promotes this would be illegal, what the individual actions would be would be a whole other story...

but where does it end? Do we ban all religions too?

I wish we'd ban all religions that openly plot to end freedom, democracy and peace. But that would mean banning most of Islam and Christianity......

Geez, really, I don't get this idea of banning peoples beliefs. Now I don't believe in any god, but I respect peoples right to believe in anything they went. It seems really silly that people who believe in their made up beings, laugh at, and try to ban other people to believing in there own made up beings

I bolded the important word - banning Scientology is not about beliefs, but about actions dangerous to the state. Tehy can believe anything they want, but they can not buy votes, e.g.

I'm impressed. This thread is over a day old and it's not filled with Black Hundereds hired by the Church Of Scientology. (Please, please sue me! I'm using your trademark without your permission!:mischief:)

Anyway, I know that some Lander produce leaflets warning about it, alongside leaflets warning about drugs and smoking. If anybody lives in a place that produces them, please scan it and post it here- I want to put it on a T-Shirt.

Interesting item to read on the ever predictable Wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology_versus_the_Internet

which the Church has attempted to vandalise on numerious occasions.

They are all in favour of free speech, as long as nothing negitive is said about them. As practically all their religious words are their trademarks, it makes public discussion alot harder, because many editors are scared of the threat of high-priced lawyers.

I was brought up in a fundimentalist Christian household (imagine a sinister verson of the Flanders in the Simpsons) so I kind of understand how their brains tick. But I feel that in this case, a compramise is in order. Scientology shouldn't be banned if they put all their religious texts into the public domain and remove the trademarks that they have on their name. Then it won't be seen as sinsiter as it's open for all to see, and a proper religious debate can be held.

But that won't happen. :D

Sure, because Christianity is clearly plotting on ending peace and freedom.

indeed, some certain Christians sects are. And their followers make up a large part of Christians.

Or do you not think a sect that preaches that free elections should not be allowed if non-Christians can be elected is democratic? A sect that preaches that other religions should not be allowed is pro freedom of religion?

And for Islam: since many texts in the Quran contradict each other, one can find anything in it that one wants to find. The clerical consensus has long been and is that younger texts top older texts. Sadly, it is the younger texts that are hawkish and order the slaying of all infidels etc. So if you actively preach that - ban ban ban!
