For the last 5 months I was living in a one-bedroom apartment, using the free wi-fi provided by the city for my internet access. I got a roommate though, so we moved to a two-bedroom apartment. While this saves me $200 a month on rent, I can't get the wi-fi signal anymore, so I have to go somewhere else to get on the internet. I don't mind this so much, but no wi-fi at my house means I can't play online games on my desktop anymore. I suppose I could pay $40 a month for Comcast with the money I'm saving on rent, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any cheaper ways to get another wi-fi signal.

Sign up for DSL or Comcast, and stop being a cheap bastard. Internet is easily one of those things that id pay 50$/month for.

Plus, with Hulu, Netflix Streaming, and Bittorrent you don't even really need cable TV. I pay about $60/month for a 12MB cable internet connection, and I watch all my TV shows streaming or downloaded through my PC that is hooked up to my TV.

So you can get a lot for your money.

Same here. We cancelled our TV subscription in January 2008. All TV we watch is either through Hulu or the network websites. We don't miss the TV at all.

You should also consider that the public wifi isn't going to be very secure. Too many possibilities of the man in the middle attacks and other risks you'd be taking.
