Getting Started

I am using the newest version that can be downloaded via the link on Thal's website as the upload to the ingame-modbrowser was not possible for him.

I only got to play for a few hours last night, but I'm almost to the renaissance era and I also haven't seen a single declaration of friendship or denouncement between AI civs yet. I did however have one civ offer me a declaration of friendship. In the vanilla post-patch game I played the other night, there were constant declarations and denouncements flying from turn 1, so I did find this a bit odd.

The mod works very good! But although I am in the year 900 BC, no civilizations have made any denouncements or declarations of friendship so far. Is this intended?

Furthermore the new official patch leads to a small pop-up on the right side with terrain info. It appears immediately when the mouse trigger is anywhere on the map. As this is a very nice feature (otherwise one has to wait long for terrain info to appear) I miss it after enabling the newest mod-version.

UPDATE: The AI doesn't conduct any diplomacy at all. No request for not settling, no research agreements, no denouncements, no declarations of friendship, no war declarations...becomes quite boring on the diplomatic side of life ;)

I've been doing some experimentation. I disabled the personality changes I made, but the AI is still rather passive. Sneaks, do you think anything done in WWGD could cause this?

Nothing to cause anything that drastic. I just played a few games with the newest version, and there was plenty of war, denounce, friendship, etc, so I have no clue what would cause a game bereft of any diplomacy.

My game wasn't quite that drastic. One civ (Polynesia) proposed friendship, asked for open borders, and even demanded gold from me. Every other civ I've met though, just shows as Neutral and won't agree to anything. I'm still busy in my expansionist phase though, and I'm at the bottom of basically every demographic, so it's entirely possible in my case that they're ignoring me just because I'm insignificant. I do share borders with Rome though, and they're not pissy about it like civs normally are. I've also settled cities near them and didn't get the "stop that" message that usually happens.

I'm having the same experience - a normal amount of warring and DoF's, right off the bat.

It might have been due to starting next to a large number of passive leaders. Some are more willing to DoF/Denounce than others.

I did however notice something... didn't once get an insult, compliment, or complaint. Has anyone received these? I personally found them a tad annoying so I'm glad they're gone, perhaps Firaxis removed them?

There's also the roll of the dice where a leader goes against his tendency. In my present game, for example, Washington's expansion is slowest on the continent. I saw a settler walk past a couple of prime spots - including one I grabbed a turn later.

Playing yesterday with Polynesia in the vanilla version, I avoided war all game, but was denounced by Egypt on its way out, and England called me "vermin" in the late game as well. In both cases my offense was DoF'ing their enemies (since in vanilla they still all wind up denouncing each other... just not in a cascade).

I have to play more vanilla to see how much the non-interaction is WWGD and how much is the patch. I didn't recall getting much chattiness in the 3 games I have played post-patch either.

I am now entering the industrial era, am very surprisingly far ahead of all other civilizations in terms of technology, number of cities, and military power (the AI is irritably passive) and received only one declaration of friendship. Funny thing though as I got the declaration from the Persians on whom I have declared war and who offered me a peace treaty (I accepted) two turns earlier. Seems to be a masochistic civilization now: You beat them up and they want to become friends with you.

It is definitely not a feature of the official patch, as I played a match with it (and without any mods) on 3rd March. There I got the typical amount of denouncements, declarations of friendship, research agreements, insultings, open border agreements etc.. And the AI also conducted diplomacy with each other. Up to now in my current game, they have no agreements with each other and no war is raging.

UPDATE: I will try a new game with newest version of the mod that is available since yesterday. BTW: The cache is always cleared by me, when a new mod oder updated mod version is used. All other mods are not only disabled but also deleted from the mods folder. Thus it's only Thal's newest version in the mod folder.

I just had a look into the mod's xml-file for personalities and this problem doesen't seem to be influenced by any of the willingness-ratios. I started next to Suleiman, Ramesses, Darius, and Nebuchadnezzar. There is quite a range regarding willingness for friendship, denouncements and warmonger-hate represented, but neither does Ramesses hate me for attacking other civs or city states, nor does Suleiman denounce me rather quickly for settling near his borders.

In my current game with v5 almost everybody is getting along, and for those who aren't getting along, the lines are very clear cut as to who to chum up to and who to avoid. Also, do city states start out as settlers? I was playing on the Earth map and Cape Town started just above me and when I settled my city at "ground zero" I immediately encountered their settler, who then did nothing until I captured it and defeated Cape Town.

CSes always start as settlers. The 3 tile radius change has screwed up Earth maps especially at smaller sizes.

Hi Thal!

Great Work
Please keep going - only your work makes "Civ V" bearable and even enjoyable :-D

One Question:
In Version 5 you didn´t include any Readme´s - is that by intention?
Because i noticed several disabled (by prefix "_") components, like:
Custom Notifications\_ClassUtils.lua
Thal Utilities\_NotificationPanel.xml
Combat\_BC - NotificationsAddin.lua
Leaders\_BL - Landmark Art Types.xml
Leaders\_BL - Landmark Art.xml
Research\_BR - General.sql
Research\_BR - General.xml

What do they do? Eh, don´t they do? :-)))

Those are all disabled files that may or may not be used in future versions, whose functions are not needed or do not work as of now.

ClassUtils is replaced by another file
Notification Panel is obsolete
NotificationsAddin is obsolete
Landmark files do not work yet
Research are obsoleted by the newest patch.

And a small request :crazyeye:
(sorry for the doublepost, but these are two totally different subjects)

a) BARBARIAN_MAX_XP_VALUE
I always set it to 100, is it possible you could integrate it in Combat Balance?
So we dont have edit GlobalDefines after every Patch?
Would be awesome - but I fear i am not the first to ask

b) Building Queue
I am really annoyed with the "Show Queue" Tickbox, and that new items are always placed at the end
Until Patch 217 i used the MOD "Improved Build Queues (v 6)" which doesn´t work right now...
Maybe you could ask "DireAussie" to integrate it in your Unofficial Patch :) (but his last Post were in octobre) ... hmm
