Alex Navarro from Giant Bomb gives Gods and Kings a 4/5, saying that it is a solid expansion, but it does not revolutionize or even "dramatically improve" Civilization V.

He does say that the AI has been improved "a bit", but it still sometimes makes bone-headed moves. His final sentence is a pretty good summary of the review,
"To put it succinctly: it is more Civilization V to add to your copy of Civilization V. If you still have even a flicker of a desire to play more Civilzation V, that news should be all you need to justify picking up Gods & Kings."

What I'm getting from the reviews is that if you liked Civ 5, G&K gives your more to like, but if you didn't like it (like Tom Chick), it probably won't change your mind.

How is an expansion supposed to revolutionize a game? I mean even Brood War took years to perfect.

Lol, this was a very perfect expansion. Still miss the good all days with brood wars.

Most people, including me, were hoping for another BTS, not in terms of content added, as much as tweaking unbalanced mechanics and fixing the AI. Sadly, it doesn't seem to do just that, but hey, I enjoy Civ 5 as it is. I'm sure I'll enjoy the expansion as well.

Expecting an expansion pack to completely revamp the game though is unreasonable at best though, I agree. And Brood War at launch really wasn't Brood War 2 years later, no doubt about it:lol:

I like to think of it as Civ 4 being pretty solid from vanilla, then Warlords not really adding a lot, and BtS being the big expansion.

Then Civ 5 vanilla was a little weaker than 4, but G+K makes a bit more of a bound than Warlords (from appearances) to catch it back up to Civ 4 XP1. Then XP2(?) for V, like BtS will go whole hog and incorporate more from mods. I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy G+K out of the box, but will be happier when VEM, NiGHTS, etc are adapted for it.

Well the common news/rumor is that this will be the only Expansion pack....

So yeah I hope this lives up to the hype...

Oddly enough when I first read the title of the thread I thought it read "Giant Bomb=Gods and Kings Review"...lol
