Give bad advice

You'd bring lots of attackers to a city. I bring about 40 cavs and 80 artillery. 1 less attacker won't stop you from conquering.

It might, *cough*RNG*cough*. Plus wars happen in any age. What about AA wars when you bring just enough to capture a city? One less attacker and that city endures your assault. And taking that worker might not be wise even with cavs and rails, since your capturing unit is exposed and might be lost. 1 cav for a slave is too expensive.

50. Use Spears to attack, and archers to defend your cities.

51. Always attack spearmen with mounted troops. Never attack archers with swordsmen.

50. To maximise income, always set the luxury slider to zero; any happiness problems can be dealt with using entertainers (note: avoid using taxmen or scientists, because entertainers will give more happiness).

PS. Of course you should rush after the lone worker/settler with everything you've got. You never know - it might have a move of two over rough terrain and get away!

I didn't say "with everything you got". I said with a troop. Preferably an infantry so it can defend itself and\or the slave(s). You might not bring enough troops to attack. But I bring excess troops in the hundreds :yup:.

I really don't want to argue pointlessly but I just want to prove my point. Different strategies work for different people. And since I bring hundreds of troops into battle I can use a few infantry to capture some slaves. It is not as if like you said I "use everything I got" :nono:.

And no I don't go bankrupt from all the troops. I trade techs with the AI and usually make a thousand gold per turn. I usually end up with 5,000-20,000+ Gold and get about 50-1200+ gold per turn. But my military isn't huge. Only about 500-600 troops.

But because I don't attack all the enemies at a time, I bring excess troops of hundreds like I said. If a few troops capturing slaves hold me back from conquering my objectives then I'm obviously not building enough troops. But that never occured to me and never will because I know I'm building enough troops.

I'm not saying you can't do this you can't do that but if a few troops hold you back then you obviously don't have enough.

(edit) And I'm not saying I'm a really good civ player. And i'm not saying I'm better than you or anyone else.

Peace folx! :hatsoff:

In no way was I criticising Aceman or any other player! I was just referring to another topic where someone complained about AI stupidity. Apparently, all it takes to make the AI abandon a successful attack with a huge SOD is to wave a lone settler or worker and said SOD immediately takes the bait! This poster even claimed he brought along workers for the sole purpose of making the AI leave his invasion force alone...

PS. I'm a sh*te player, but even I have - thanks to YOUR inputs  - managed to advance from Chieftain to Emperor and be comfortable there within a month.

51. Always attack spearmen with mounted troops. Never attack archers with swordsmen.

I think that's actually bad Civ4 advice.

52-Always rush wealth with an avaliable Leader.

^^Its actually possible, I did by mistake once trying to build an army

55. The first build in every new city should be Wealth.

56. Make a beeline for Free Artistry

57. Nationalism is absolutely vital

58. Never upgrade obsolete units. Disband them for shields and build new ones

59. The WWI Dardanelles campaign is a very good example on which to base a CIV invasion. a) Send in all your battleships, cruisers and ironclads and bombard the enemy while you build transports, artillery and infantry. b) Withdraw your navy to a new theatre of war once the invasion force is on its way

60. When you get nukes only build them. Build nukes in every town and don't build anything other than nukes. Even in high corrupt 1 shield producing towns.

That's what I tend to do. Nukes make excellent pre-builds for Spaceship parts. And if I get to the stage where I can build nukes, I'll be building a spaceship. Plus if an AI annoys me, they won't last long enough to regret it.

58. Never upgrade obsolete units. Disband them for shields and build new ones

I often happen to have not so much gold in the mid Industrial era. I actually do that a lot, it's very useful. But yeah, everything that begins with "never" is bad advice. ;)

I too disband certain obsolete troops (reg warriors, & non-elite knights and cavalry) for shields when their days of even marginal use very clearly has passed. One should never say never tho as I once had an elite Ancient Cav mop up behind tanks & mech inf and got a GML!

However, disbanding veteran spearmen, pikemen, musketmen etc instead of upgrading -->-->--> Mech Inf is very bad advice indeed imo.

Go off topic so much we lose the numbers...

60. I think. Trade Electronics before you finish Hoover Dam and lose maybe the best wonder of all.
