GK1- The Wrath of Khan!!

Just a thought

Did Hammi have trade deal going with somebody and when WW1 started his trade route was severed?

Hammi may have had trades going on with other Civ's when I bribed him into war with the Zulu, however he has harbors(therefor wouldn't have to use the Zulu harbor), also if HIS deal with another Civ got tarnished from an alliance I'm almost positive that doesn't cause a rep hit.

On top of that every deal we had going with Hammi, was either renogotiated or kept going. I can't even figure out what deal was broken, much less how it was broken

Preflight - 1350 AD – Studying the map is interesting. The English own a city named New Calcutta. We need to hope that the Indians don’t wipe out the English, because then we would have to declare war on the Indians.

Science-wise we’re in good shape. The only thing anyone has on us is Medicine (researching), and two governments that we aren’t interested in.

We have a stack of Cavs that haven’t been moved, there are two Russian workers just standing there. Capture the workers.

We are average compared to Russia, Zulu, and Babylon. Strong compared to England, India, and Persia.

Trying to MM our cities, we are just a few shields shy of having some optimal production. We’ll have to wait till we get the coal hooked up.

IBT – Hammi & Shaka sign a peace treaty. Cathy wants to talk. She’ll give us Medicine for peace. No I don’t think so. You need to be knocked back a few more cities.
We lose two cavs and a worker to Cossack attacks.

1. 1355 AD – Smolensk: Kill a rifle and lose a cav.
Sverdlovsk: City is razed. Retreat a cav, but no one is lost.

Per Gengis’ recommendation, dial up Hammi and buy Medicine for WM & 1668G. No one has anything higher. Peace with Shaka will cost us. So we’ll pass for now.

Dial up Electricity due in 40.

Upgrade a vet knight.

IBT – Kill a Cossack and lose a rifle. Babs are building US.

2. 1360 AD - Manuever and Healing. Upgrade our last knight. Shift Dyeburg to a rifle to defend our future coal colony.

IBT – Lose two cavs, kill a Cossack.
Ivory, Coast: Cav=>cav
Vineland: Cav=> Worker (we need ‘em for the railroad)

3. 1365 AD – Found coal colony. Start building some railroads. Start pillaging around Moscow.

IBT – India and Russia sign a peace treaty. Lose a sword and two workers to a Cossack.
Vineland: Worker=> worker

4. 1370 AD – Smolensk: Kill four defenders. Lose a cav. A spear is still defending.
Cathy will now give us three workers and two cities for peace. My idea is that I take the cities and disband them.

IBT – Persia & Russia sign a trade embargo against us.
We lose a cv to a Cossack.
Berlin: Heroic Epic=> Military Academy? (Just had to throw that in for Gengis) Worker
Vineland: worker=>worker
Dyes: Rifle=> Cav

5. 1375 AD – Kill a Cossack approaching Dyeburg.
Smolensk and the Sistine Chapel are burned to the ground.

Cathy will now give three cities, but not a tech.

IBT – Berlin: Worker=> cav
Vineland: worker=> worker (need to get rid of these foreigners)

6. 1380 AD – We can now get just industrialization from Cathy. Much healing.

IBT – Liz wants peace, forget it. Lose a cav to a Cossack, then our rifle kills one.
Vineland:Worker=> worker

7. 1385 AD – Lose our caravel redlining a Zulu galleon.

IBT – Our pillaging force outside Moscow takes some lumps and lose a rifle, a cav, and a sword.
Vineland: Worker=> cav
Ivory: Cav=> Cav
Coast: Cav=> Ironclad

8. 1390 AD – Since we’ll lose our cannons next turn. I bombard the last tile around Moscow. Then get Industrialization for Peace.
Start moving a force against England. Figure we’ll finally kill the English then we can move from there against India.

IBT – India and England sign a peace treaty.
Berlin: Cav=> Factory

9. 1395 AD – Manuevering. Canterbury is the target next turn.

IBT – Zulu and India sign peace.
Dyes: Cav=> Cav

10. 1400 AD – Canterbury is destroyed. One slave. Set up to siege the next three English cities. Kill an English sword.

After Action Report – I haven’t railroaded to connect cities. Rather to optimize productivity. Example: Berlin is now producing 30 uncorrupted shields per turn. Several cities are almost at nice round numbers of production.

A thought for the team. We probably need to research Espionage next. Since we don’t have a rep, it is going to be very expensive to buy techs. It will probably be cheaper to steal them. Plus we can turnaround and sell them.

Next idea. If we get a leader, we need to save him for ToE.

We should probably have at least one city building a factory until we have five.

Please don’t join any more slaves to our cities. Foreigners don’t stay happy very long. Remember we will be having our GA when we get Panzers.

I recommend pressing on and eliminating the English. The next player can probably do that in the next three turns. Then we can wager permanent war against Gandhi.

>>SAVE - 1400 AD <<

BTW - Building workers did not reduce the number of foreigners in Vineland. :(

Unfortuanatly producing workers won't get rid of the foreign citizens until we're down to only foreigners in there, and that will greatly increase the chance of it flipping to another Civ.

I think we're gonna have to just let them slowly convert over time.

:goodjob: /that seems the obvious choice to me!

Stealing techs (in PTW, not 100% sure in Vanilla, but I would be surprised if not) is cheaper anyway! Aggie did a tremendous research on it, while (yes, while) we were having a PBEM. I was outproducing & outresearching him in a no war game. He simply did steal all my techs. And beat me with space ship. He did post his findings somewhere on thsi forum, but don't know where. I'll ask when he comes online.

Will the person guilty of this step forward ;) ? It was the first thing I noticed last turn and was quite surprised!

In return, I will reveil that I seriously don't understand why the Mil Ac. is a dumb idea :confused: :blush:

The military Academy allows you to build armies. You may have one army for every four cities. Since we're limited to five cities, we won't be able to build an army until the one we have is killed.

I have to look into Aggie's research.

:blush:

The monk did it :spank:

Got it

And that will be that last we discuss it. Brother Bede is forgiven.

Go forth and kicketh some butt. :ripper: [plasma] :rocket: :tank:

Uniform, carbine and horse replace sackcloth and ashes:slay:

Lux deals with Hammi up for renegotiation As he is starting to settle to our east and has units cruising the territory and needs our dyes and ivory I renegotiate the Peace Treaty for dyes He is way down on the list of targets and is the tech leader and a potential candidate for tech theft so twenty turns of peace can only help in the long run Hammi also has all the cash but the upcoming lux deal cancellation will cost him 42gpt

Shaka will take Industrialization or 30gpt for a Peace Treaty As he has no presence on our continent I'll pass for now

Gandhi has cavalry loose in the western badlands

Order of business appears to be
1) Finish off the WWW
2) Strike at India's exposed cavalry and cities on the plains west of Dyeburg I can't locate his Saltpeter source on the map unless it was at Pune, now Russian, so it could be that his Cavalry forces are limited to what I can see in the west As his other saltpeter source at Bengal was not connected after the earlier pillaging I may find that India is an easier target than I thought as he lacks that important resource
2) Build production infrastructure in our cities
3) Keep Cathy and Hammi happy and out of our way Although it is tempting to enlist Cathy in our fight against India I feel that is a really bad idea as I don't want to hand her any cities in the south and as she is next on the list after India I don't to make her a gift of productive territory.
4) Scorch as much of the unoccupied territories as I can and make sure that critical resources are unconnected

T1 1405AD
Two English swords emerge from Canterbury and kill a cav but one sw dies The Indian cavalry gallops around and attacks a barb camp in the fog
The Russians start UnivSuf
Hammi cancels the fur deal and won't renegotiate no way no how but leaves the spices and gems standing His treasury is suddenly down ~1200g and he now has Electricity and he has no furs to trade Somebody just got richer and warmer!! Cathy is much richer and has Electricity too and Gandhi is warmer I leave the other deals with Hammi standing at least until the English are finished and cycle through the cities to check for incipient disorder Alles in ordnung so far

A barb camp appears NW of the Horse colony and The Basher is dispatched to dispose of it

Nottingham Coventry and New Calcutta are next on the list

Workers are concentrated onto high output rails

The attack on New Calcutta
Coventry is defended by a pike on top and there is an exposed sword outside the city Ignoring the sword a vet cav gallops in to attack Cav is severely wounded but survives and the pike suffers casualties but no stronger defender is revealed Second cav charges and is repulsed with heavy casualties Third vet cav takes the town and one slave Elite cav takes out elite sw but doesn't promote Slave goes to build colony on horses

The attack on Coventry
Coventry is defended by a pike Vet cav charges gallantly but dies in the attempt Pike suffers major casualties Second cav takes the city

The attack on Nottingham
Nottingham shows a single spear in the garrison Elite cav takes the town but does not promote and we gain another slave

Cathy will sell us Electricity for 2650 or The Corp for 1900 A theft will cost us 2440 There are no money brokering opportunities Leave it on the table for now as there are no brokering opportunity for Espionage (the only tech I think we need outside the track to MT)

I just notice that Gandhi has gone Commie

T2 1410AD
Hammi and Gandhi sign a MPP and Hammi cancels our Spice deal
The Indian cavalry take out the barb camp
Hammi lands a cav/settler pair on the coast outside of Coastville and a Zulu Galleon sails north in the strait
England has a spearman moving along the coast
The forces gather for the attack on India and the finish of England

T3 1415
Russia and England sign an embargo against us
The English spear overruns the spare horse colony
India lands a rifle/settler pair on coast at site of New Calcutta
Dyeburg riots and lux is raised to 10% to forestall riots elsewhere
Hammi founds Lagash SW of Coastville

T4 1420AD
English sword sorties out of Hastings and is shot up by vet cav

The attack on Hastings
Hastings is defended by a pike which falls to our vet cav Spearman forces vet cav to retreat with heavy casualties Hastings falls to next cav

We have come to a severe dilemma England will fall very soon and we go to war with India India and Babylon have an MPP in place Hammi has cities to the east and south of Vineland and SW of Coastville The Zulu galleon is sailing up the strait clearly looking for a place to drop forces and a settler Shaka will sign a Peace Treaty for 80g and not a penny less right now

Here's where it gets tricky: When the WWW is done I want to sign a Peace Treaty with Shaka and an MPP before the Declaration of War on India Then withdraw our forces and wait for the Indian attack against us So long as we do not violate the Indian borders Hammi will stay out of it In the phony war interim I am going to try and trade for every tech we can get from anybody That will give us time to build the Homeland defence and then we can roll on Hammi and the Indians With any luck Russia may see an opportunity and declare war on Ghandi With a tight hold on the rosary beads...

T5 1425AD
York collapses and England is gone
Shaka takes 60g for peace and another 40g for MPP
Cathy will sell Electricity for 2550g Buy it!
Shaka offers The Corp and 100g for Electricity Sell it!
He also has furs on offer for some Dyes Buy 'em!
Persia will sign an MPP for Banking Another counterweight against Hammi!
Hammi will sign an MPP for Ivory and 300g India is effectively isolated with only Russia as a potential ally
War is declared on India Now if only Russia will stay on the sidelines for awhile
All the cities are orderly and lux is back to 0 Start a run on SciMeth at 70% Treasury stands at 1644g and +34gpt

T6 1430AD
India takes our spare iron and Gandhi's cav shoot up our column in the badlands Our forces return the favor and eliminate Gandhi's forces including the rifle/settler pair

T7 1435AD
The dogpile begins as Gandhi invades Ivoryopolis, nabs our workers and Persia declares war, followed by the Zulu, and finally Babylon India takes two more wounded Cav in the badlands and loses one We take down an Indian Cav with an Elite Cav and another with a vet Cav The invading Cav at IP is softened up by cannon and dispatched by a vet Cav (promoted) To avoid disorder in Dyeburg lux goes to 10% Sci stays at 70% Treasury is at 1686 19g Somewhere along in there Russia founds Smolensk and Sverdlosk S of Dyeburg

T8 1440AD
Sign an RoP with Hammi to avoid unpleasantness and give him access to the west Hammi founds Sippar east of Vineland Cavalry forces hunker down in the horse colony and cannons and a rifle move towards the coal colony Stapel's Basher moves onto the mountain for lookout duty Gandhi has placed Karachi NE of the Russian city of Dnepropertovsk

T9 1445AD
All is quiet on the Western Front Hammi is taking full advantage of his RoP to move forces into Indian territory There is no sign of advancing forces from India and our army has gone from average to strong vs the Indians I spend an Indian worker on a silks colony and drop lux to 0 and raise science to 80% Sci Meth due in 13 and the Treasury stands at 1722 and +15

T10 1450AD
Hammi finally ends the Gems deal and Dyeburg riots before I can prevent it As soon as I can I cut a deal with Shaka for Ivory at 10gpt so even with the added lux tax the Treasury stays in balance at +4gpt

India has dispatched a settler/spear pair out of Bengal and a two Cav team from the Horse colony is dispatched to intercept them

Russia is moving settler/Cossack pairs between Dyeburg and Coastville and in the west

India is ripe for the plucking once the Cav forces in the horse colony have healed up There are cannon in the Coal colony supported by rifles which can move on Karachi in conjunction with the forces from the stud farm

The worker forces are starting to link up our cities and the English and Indian slaves can pick off colonies in the west for additional silks if needed

Hammi is setting the tech pace and has steel but not for sale Everybody else is stuck at the two gov'ts except Xerxes who is still in the MA Too bad he isn't higher on the list.

Vineland and Coastville are working on factories while IP and Dyeburg are building rifles Berlin is at 42spt right now and is working on a Coal Plant due in 4 The citizens have been managed to max food and gpt during the Coal Plant build The extra 7-8 shields should put it over 50 spt and with full granary in 3 turns can go on short rations for the 12 turns needed to build the ToE from scratch (less if you choose to use MilAcad or UnivSuff as prebuild)

Vineland has gone from obsteperous problem child to model student while Dyeburg has become the new problem. Berlin and IP remain orderly

Looking at the Indian territory it appears that Gandhi is using forced labor to build his military as his population numbers are dropping Gandihi will pay his treasury (37g) in tribute for a peace treaty He still has access to saltpeter though I can't find his source on the map He does have a trade deal running with Russia so maybe Cathy is shipping Saltpeter from Pune

Russia and Babylon are avoiding each other so far Our biggest risk is a war between those two which will put us in danger of having to defend Hammi should Cathy trigger our MPP The lands to our West should provide a distraction to our expansionist neighbor so a run-in between those is two is unlikely unless Cathy decides to take on Lagash SW of Coastville

obstreperous - 1. Noisily and stubbornly defiant.
2. Aggressively boisterous.

Once again Brother Bede challenges my vocabulary and I have to look up a word. :goodjob:

Excellent job handling the war focus shift. Outstanding headwork using the MPP against Gandhi. If he's in Communism, he's toast.
