Pre Turn 1450 AD: MM Vineland. Will grow in one turn anyway. Science to 90%. –24 gpt, but scientific method wil be there 1 turn sooner. Our silk colony is on the Indian border, but undefendend. I send two 4/5 elite cavs. Hey, there is the wandering spear/settler combi Bede promised!. The other cav kills a redlinded rifle. 2 elite vics, no leader….

IT: Russians on the move. The found Grozny in the middle of our lands.

Turn 1; 1455 AD; Raze Indian city. Another 2 fruitless elite vics. Hook up another silk, sell it for gems and 1gpt to Hammi. Science to 100%. We hardly have an army left. I will make a few more cavs. Kill a barb camp. I discover a worker making a road in the middle of east butt fcuk. I tell him to stop. I also see miles of railroad outside the 21 boxes, whereas not all worked tiles have railroads yet. :nono: We have stuff on automove. Missed that last time. Another :nono: ;) .
My youngest brother comes online, my pc is low on virtual memory, Vanilla CIV crashes :aargh: .
 
I think I managed to exactly replay :) .

Turn 2; 1460 AD; New Bengal is history. Another 2 fruitless elite vics :( . Build a horse colony. Don’t know why exactly…..
Turn 3; 1465 AD; kill an idian spear, move some troops. Build an iron colony.
Turn 4; 1470 AD; Berlin completes coalplant, switch to universal suffrage for pre build. Zulus and barbies have scientific method. We have it in 3 turns.
IT: loose a cav, civ crashes…………… But, after autosave :) .
Turn 5; 1475 AD; loose a cav on a spear, but raze new Bengal. Science to 50%, scientific method in 1 turn.
Turn 6; 1480 AD; Berlin switched to ToE. Done in 8 turns. Two AIs started it 1 turn earlier. We had a small pre-build. On monarch, we have to make it, I guess.
I don’t know to research next. We for sure want 2 new techs from the ToE. Rep parts and steel are around. I set stuff on 40 turn refinery, by using a scientist from Dyeburg.
And there is crashes again! It must be the vanilla version. I did save a lot (learning), but I must admit I had it!
 
Way to hang in there Stapel!! I'm wondering if C3C has done something to Vanilla Civ. Playing the GotM on Friday and Saturday I had about 8 crashes. I'm going to reload all my files.

Make sure you have at least 400mb free in contiguous disk space available. I've deleted all the unused Conquests files from my 2gb hard drive to get the space and I've increased the paging file size to minimum 200mb as well. Since then I haven't had any problems with virtual memory shortages or game crashes. It helps that I'm running Win2000 Professional (the replacement for NT5)

Surprisingly since installing Conquests I havn't had any problems with normal Civ SGs. Sounds like a reinstall is in order.:wallbash:

Well, I have a 8 gB C drive, which only holds 'program files', and a 40gB D drive with games, mp3 (a lot, all legal) and other stuff.
I also use W2000.
The virtual memory message came when vanilla, c3c, Windows Music player, Musicmatch, word and CIV1 ( check out my civ1 SG ) were running, so maybe I had it coming.

Point is: I do have 8 running PBEMs, both c3c and ptw. I never had any problems, until I signed up for this vanilla SG. The only logical conclusion is that the c3c / vanilla combo is not working out. But it is always vanilla that crashes.

Just running vanilla is of course a solution, but not one I prefer.
I did reinstall the whole shanbang several times, just to get it running.
 
Hmm, that's strange. Like GK, I have not had any problem between c3c and vanilla. Sorry I can't offer any help.
 
Well, when I signed up for this game, I didn't expect it to be vanilla. I only found out while playing ;) . When loading the vanilla save in ptw or c3c, it will crash within a few turns by definition. Funny thing is that this shouldn't be the case.....

Furthermore, vanilla can run with ptw, vanilla can run with c3c, but ptw and c3c won't run simultanuously.....
 
On the game: Berlin has one food short. This is fine to me. This way the ToE will be completed sooner.

The Indians are pretty far away now. If we want to hurt them, we will need to travel huge distances. We only have a few cavs, so I don't think it is too easy to get there. Maybe we can build a few more and do some Russian bashing in a few turns.

On the techs. We can pick 2 free techs in 6 turns. which ones?

Gorm, be sure you check all AIs on what they have, the turn before we complete ToE. I think AT and electronics will be the right choices. We should be able to sell them for Steel and rep parts. If the AI manages to get AT first, we can escape via refinery.
ATM, we are on a 40 turn gambit for refinery. I have mixed feelings on it myself, but can't think of a better plan so far.

Is there a reason to keep so much $$$ in our treasury? None of our cities are hopelessly corrupt so $$$ is not really necessary. Once we get TOE, I will up our research.

Summary:
(1) This has been a turn of consolidating our cities. I have pulled factories, hospitals, cathedrals and temples on all our cities. We might want pull libs and unis too, to fund our own research.

(2) I am in the process of replacing our rifle colony garrisons with infantries. Please complete the shift change.

(3) Upgrade all our rifles asap. 20g a piece is a worthwhile investment.

(4) War against indians are still on. with our rail system in place, inf work alot better than cavs so I have not produced a single cav in my set of turns.

(5) We are up in Electronics and possibly Sanitation. Research is continuing with Radio to trade for Steel and Refinery.
