GK1- The Wrath of Khan!!

We have oil already?? Woo Hoo!! This SG just got easier!!;)

Good luck with the process, sounds like quite a chore.

First 5 turns:

Pre Turn 550 BC: Enter :D

Turn 1; 530 BC; workers near dyes city start doing some jungle bashing. worker near coastal city goes 1 north to help roading. We loose an archer near ivory, but kill the English spear with another. Two other archers move towards English front.
Turn 2; 510 BC; We move towards Canterbury.
Turn 3; 490 BC; Babs finish Oracle
Turn 4; 470 BC; Goodbye Canterbury, we loose one archer. One other is elite now. Two workers enslaved  . Construction available, but we cannot afford it.
Turn 5; 450 BC; I decide to change coastal city from rax to temple, to pre-build for harbour. Berlin is building one warrior per turn, so it can build our TFE alone.

And the rest:

Turn 6; 430 BC; We almost approach York
Turn 7; 410 BC Iron colony! We have discovered bonus grass inder jungle near Dyes city. Two archers near York damaged, when taking out wandering English archers
Turn 8; 390 BC
Turn 9; 370 BC; Rade a barby camp near the English. Upgrade 5 warriors in Berlin.
Turn 10; 350 BC; We have 6 swords, 2 cats, 1 archer in Berlin. I leave the war declarence to the next player.

Here is the 330 BC SAVE . I am very sorry, but I could not help razing York first ;) !
Still no leader :( .

A few comments:

-Send workers towards coastal ciry
-Task Force England is still up north. Mayve use it for taking out wandering English
- 3 slaves are mining near Ivory City. I recommend them to mine the other BG too, and then move them to wherever.

Stapel - Great job!! How many cities does Lizzy have left?

Looks like Gengis gets to start the Joannie war. :hammer:

Got it. Looking good stapel.

Even if you did play part of my turn;)

RE-reading my own comments, I see I forgot to tell we have a temple in ivory city.

Another thing I was wondering about. We have literature and code of laws. Why is that?

Flight Check- Military Report: 9 workers(+6 slaves), 6 warriors, 5 archers, 7 spears, 6 swords, & 2 cats. We have a strong military compared to everyone, & they are all in anarchy except Gandhi(Republic).

Diplo Relations: Lizzy is down to 2 cities. Gandhi, Joan, & Cathy are all up 5 techs. Plus the GL is being built by all Civs but Lizzy so getting it without a leader is out of the question.

The temp city is throwing off our RCP & probably adding 2-3 wasted shields to Ivoryopolis, but it’s worth it to pump out the cheap units for upgrade until we have France under control.

I’ll probably burn Lizzy down to her last city, just for the GL chance.

Bad news on the TFF, our diplo advisor points out that our iron isn’t available to Joan…………. She has horses & iron now. Oh well, operation TFF goes on as scheduled.

IT- Wounded spear fends off attack from Eng archer.
Spot a single F warrior approaching Berling.

1- Elite archer kills spear guarding Rouen. We gain 23 gold.
Sorry guys I broke my own rule, I use a single worker to throw a mine up in our temp city.

IT- El archer defends against a Vet Eng archer….on a plain……….flawlessly. Hopefully that’s an omen.
Berlin: sword>sword

2- Change Coastal City from temple(33) to library(13), cheaper helps with research when we decide to start & I don’t think we’ll be having unhappiness issues anytime soon.
So far so good, still no one has currency.

IT- Vet archer defeats barb, flawlessly & promotes. I could get used to this.
Ivoryopolis expands.
Leipzig: worker>cat

3- Vet sword kills Eng warrior, -3hp.
Vet sword kills Eng warrior, -1hp.
England is willing to give away all the techs we’re down, all their gold, their last city, & their WM for peace. No way, we’re crazy!

IT- Eng archer kills a spear. I knew the luck wouldn’t last.
D’oh!! France drags Russia into war against us.

4- Vet sw kills spear defending Chartes.
Elite archer kills spear, -3hp. Marches in & burns Chartres.
Vet archer kills Eng spear defending Nottingham, -3hp.
Vet archer kills spear, -1hp.
Elite archer kills archer, -1hp. Burns Nottingham.

Establish an Embassy with Gandhi.
Delhi: horses, grapes, silks, 7spt, 3fpt, on a river, building Pyramids(38), & defended by 2 spears.
I was hoping I could get India involved against Russia, but they won’t be bribed. Hopefully our improved relations will keep him out of the war.

IT- Berlin: sword>sword
Ivoryopolis: barracks>spear

5- France is willing to settle for 1 tech. HA!! After dragging Russia against us, keep dreaming Joan.

IT- Spear beats off barb.

6- Vet sw kills Fr sw, -3hp.
Vet sw kills war.
Gandhi still won’t join the war, & doesn’t have currency. Joani still only wants to part with 1 tech, & Cathy won’t talk to us.

IT- Berlin: sword>sword

7- Elite archer kills wounded archer.
Vet sw kills spear guarding Besancon, -1hp. He takes the city. That was easy!
Archer pillages barb camp on the way back from former England.
Joan is willing to cough up 2 techs now, maybe she’ll have to lose another city before she’s willing to give them all up.

IT- Vet sw kills archer, -2hp & promotes.
El archer killed by sword. :suicide:

We learn currency! Trade currency to Gandhi for MapMaking, Philosophy, Construction, & 2 gold. Not too shabby!:D That puts Gandhi in the Middle Ages. Start on Republic(doesn’t really matter what we start on, Joan has all 3 techs we need & we can’t start on Monarchy unfortunately.

8-

IT- Wounded sw killed by sw, -2hp.
Ivoryopolis: spear>court
Dyeburg: sword>library

9-

IT- Both the English & French come begging us for peace.:mwaha:
Berlin: sword>sword

10- Vet sw kills sw, -1hp.
Elite archer kills a barb horseman to protect our wounded units retreating from England & spots 6 more headed for Ivoryopolis. Unfortunatly that means we’ll lose another El archer.

End o’ turn report
*Russia is finally willing to talk but they want the world for peace. @#$% them!
*7 swords & 2 cats taking out the French, with a couple more on the way.
*Dyeburg is well defended against a Russian attack & should be able to hold off the first wave.
*Ivoryopolis will have enough units to take out the barbs once the troops from England get back there, and the troops will beat the horses to the city by 1 turn. There’s also a spear 3 tiles away that I was taking to another front that can be brought back.
*Joan is feeling all big & bad now that she’s got some armor on, and she doesn’t feel like giving us Republic in addition to the other techs. Well we’ll show her.
*I think I accadently took an extra turn, because the numbers are off somehow. I’ll take 1 less next round to even them up.

*The next player has the option of fighting Joan until she’s willing to cough up the rest of the techs & all her other goodies or until she’s beaten back enough for us to get our 5th city down. Your call, but I’d go with the second if you can manage it. It’s only 3 more cities to take out.

Save!

Fine! Very fine GK! That currency deal....

About coastal city: I set it to temple, as a pre-build for a harbor. I am not convinced of the use of libraries.

Well this set of turns had some good things and some bad things.

Pre-flight – 110 BC – Diplo Check – Cathy will give us peace in exchange for Leipzig. I politely tell her how many bodily orifices she can put her proposal in.
Joannie will only give us two techs and all her gold for peace. What you won’t give us Paris? What’s up with the armor suit? How can I look down your shirt? I get slapped and she threatens to cut off my head.
Looks like our elite archer is about to be set upon by barb horses.
Liz is down to exactly one city. How nice.
Everything else looks good… I like following Gengis :D

IBT – Gandhi wants to sell up HBR for 67G. No thanks. We can’t really use it right now… no horses.
Our elite archer is brutally murdered by the barb horses. YOU SHALL BE AVENGED!! :D
Coastville: Library=> Galley (we need to meet some new people. Hopefully some more guys. All these ladies on this rock is driving us nuts.
Gibbon publishes his book of the most advanced nations in the world. We’re sixth.

1. 90 BC – Maneuvering. The Russians have a warrior headed towards our interior.

IBT – The Zulu land a settler pair just east of Berlin.
Leipzig: Cat=> Cat
Zulu complete the Pyramids.
25 barb horsemen show up outside of Ivoryopolis.

2. 70 BC – Contact Shaka. He’s annoyed. He has contact with X-man and Hammy. He’s up HBR and Polytheism, and down CoL, Lit, and Currency. He has 17 cities  Let’s see what we can do.
The man is desperate. For currency, he’ll give me: Contact with Hammy, all his gold, HBR and Poly. OK we’ll do that. That kicks us into the Middle Ages and we learn Monotheism of course.

Hammy is annoyed too. We sell him contact with the three witches for contact with X-man, all his gold (16G) and his WM.

Very interesting. Shaka has a city named Persepolis . :D

I dial up Cathy. In a peace deal we get her TM and 32G. She gets contact with X-man and Shaka and our WM.

X-man is annoyed. He is down a boat load of techs. I sell him contact with the witches of the east and west for his WM and 3G (all he has).

Dial up Gandhi. We can get Republic for all three new contacts, our WM and 102G. We could get Monarchy for just the contacts. First I think, “Do we want to be a republic?” Then I realize that that is what we are researching so I guess we want to be a republic. After much thought, and the idea that we will be sooooo much more productive in a republican government, I pull the trigger on the deal.

So for whoever is keeping track the order we have met other civs is:
England, France, India, Russia, Zulu, Babylon, and Persia. Shaka is going to be a 800lb gorilla by the time we get to him. He has great lands. X-man is stuck in a jungle.

Start a 40 turn gambit on Theology. Histograph check and we are behind everyone but Persia and England.

Siege of Tours: 4/4 sword kills 3/3 spear (-1hp)
4/4 sword is kills by 3/3 spear (-2hp)
5/5 sword 1/3 spear Tours is razed. 1 slave.

I will revolt next turn.

IBT – The Zulu found New Zimbabwe just east of Berlin. The barb horsemen go around our spear and are headed for Ivoryopolis.
Berlin: Sword=>settler (for when we come out of anarchy and need our new town.

3. 50 BC – Since we’re going to get sacked, I buy an embassy in Babylon for 73G. They’re in anarchy also, although they almost have the Hanging Gardens completed. I give our remaining 25G to the X-man and he’ll still annoyed with us.
Revolt … aaaah 6 turns of anarchy. :cringe: Hire a clown in Berlin to avoid a riot.

IBT – Our two spears in Ivoryopolis kill 9 barbs before dying. Five of our six citizens are carried off. They never touch the archers healing outside of the city. Lesson learned: give the town to the barbs and save the troops.

4. 30 BC – Kill two barbs.

IBT – Kill a French sword and a French Archer from their mini-SOD. Just a redlined sword left. Last barbs ransack Ivoryoplois.

5. 10 BC – Move back into Ivory.

6. 10 AD – Manuevering

IBT – Lose an elite sword outside of Paris to a regular French sword. Lose a spear to a regular French archer.

7. 30 AD – Kill the offending archer and sword without loss. One promotion.

IBT – We lose a vet sword in a forest to a regular French sword attacking across a river. The Frenchman is unscathed. Operation Paris is now down to two swords.

8. 50 AD - Manuevering

IBT – Once again we lose a vet sword in a forest to a regular French sword attacking across a river. This time the Frenchman loses one whole HP. I hate the RNG. Operation Paris is put on hold.

The German Republic is born!!

9. 70 AD – Galley in Coastville is changed to a Barracks now that we don’t need to go sailing.
Settler in Berlin is switched to a sword.
Ivoryopolis is switched from a courthouse to a sword.

Our budget is a mess. I need 10% lux, a clown, and a scientist in Berlin to keep everyone happy. We’re at +2 gpt.

This may be a situation where we’re better off in Despotism.
Kill the sword outside of Paris.

10. 90 AD – Start bombarding Lyons.

After Action Report: Operation Paris is down to one sword heading west to join up with Operation Lyon.

TFE is in Ivory. It has three archers and a warrior at the moment.

>SAVE<

Actually I was just researching Republic because regardless of what we researched Joan had them all, we'd probably be able to get them all off her. Plus we didn't have Poly so I couldn't research Monarchy, which I wanted too.

I think we can pull off Republc for quite awhile, with England being a joke & all our luxs. I think monarchy will be our best government long term wise however.

Thanks for the list bugsy! I knew the first 5, but now that we no everyone that will be the war list for the rest of the game. I'm about to edit the first post with that info, so if anyone needs to find it thats where it will be.:D

Got it.

Genghis is going to feel likes he's leading an army, or maybe horde is better, what with you following Genghis and I'm following you in two games.

Bugsy,

Nice trades, too bad about the luck in the field

Now, after cursory review the Monk seeks input from fellow pillagers. Any ideas, guys?

:crazyeye: I am baffled.

Do we keep Liz alive, but barricaded, until we finish with the French and at least another twenty turns thereafter? Are we finished with the French?

Should we pop a settler into position 5A before taking Paris? Do we want to keep Paris, assuming we can get there at least until after we've finished with the French war? That means abandoning Leipzig before we're done with it as warrior factory.

 So many choices. so little time.

I'd keep Lizzy alive until we're comfortable wiping Joan out, being forced into non-stop war with Joan right now definatly wouldn't help. Not to mention we'd have to turn to Russia or India for pointy stick research.

If you think you can muster enough troops, keep attacking the French. If not, then make peace for everything they'll give you. The 20 turns of peace will be spent putting markets into our cities & rebuilding our army.

Paris must burn before we get our 5th city down. With its culture it would only be a matter of time before it jumped to the french anyways. If we can beat them back to their northern most 3/4 cities then we can probably fit it in there, but not until then.

My 2c.

Thanks Gengis.

Hope the rest of the crew checks in with another round of competing ideas

Bede, I agree with Gengis. That's our best plan of action.

I agree too. Sounds boring, but I think you can do the right thing by yourself ;)
