Global Warming

This mod creates the possibility that Global Warming will affect the game world. Once any Civilization has entered the Industrial Era, there is a chance that a Global Warming Event will strike a tile. As the world grows warmer, Global Warming Events will happen more frequently and will tend to be more destructive. Both Map Size and Game Speed are taken into account when calculating event probability.

Global Warming is affected by the world's population and some buildings (e.g. Factories), technologies (e.g. Combustion), and improvements (e.g. Manufactories). Global Warming is mitigated by certain map elements including Forests, Jungles, Ice, Snow, Tundra and Fallout.

Includes a graphical Global Warming Meter (available via the Diplo Corner pulldown menu).

Global Warming (v.7)

Global Warming Events
* Melting Snow and Ice
* Desertification: Land tiles may become drier, which may lead to lost features and resources.
* Warming Seas: Coastal waters may gain or lose resources
* Flooding: Flat tiles near coasts and rivers may lose improvements.
* Hurricanes: Affected city will lose population and lose many improvements.
* Jungle Expansion: A region will be overrun by jungle and marsh, destroying previous improvements and resources.

Compatibility
* Vanilla, GnK, BNW

* Any saved game.
* Any mod, as long as it includes the Industrial Era.

Saw your mod on the wokshop and like your idea very much. When i get time i will play with this mod and report if i will encounter any compatibility problems with other mods iam running.

FramedArchitect I love your idea, I really missed this feature.

Is there any compatibility issue with other mods using Lua?

Hi, I don't think there will be conflicts with other mods... this has a really light footprint. As long as other mods include industrial era, this one will initialize. If you're playing with mods that significantly change techs and buildings, it will skew the effects or GW. That can be remedied with edits to the Options.lua.

So awesome. Hope it will work with BNW correctly. I remember Civ2 Call To Power with it's underwater and orbital cities, global warming and many other beautifull things. This mod will give me a little more pleasure of those days...

I'm pretty sure this mod works with BNW; I remember testing it with a host of other mods when the expansion was released.

I love this mod FramedA. This (and your Plague mod) add a small, but immersive element to the game that is much needed. Hoping it works with the Fall patch.

By the way, I haven't played Civ since August and for some reason (1) this mod (and your other mods) vanished from my subscribed mods; and (2) I can't find the mods listed in the Civ 5 workshop. I'm hoping I can get it to work the old fashioned way, but I thought I would let you know.

Thanks for your hard work!

I removed all my mods from the Steam workshop this past summer. I made a post on the Steam forums, but the condensed version is that technical changes made it impossible for me to upload (i.e. update) larger mods. Steam/Firaxis never replied to any of my support requests so, after months of deliberation, I decided it was better to remove the mods rather than let them languish in buggy and unfinished states.

Almost all my mods that were available on Steam are now hosted here, though as you point out you have to manually move the mod file into the MODS folder.

This was actually one of the first mods I wanted to create for BNW as an add-on for this mod. However, modding the resolutions is just not easy without adding a dll mod, which I absolutely do not want to do.

Well i thought about a Resolution time ago, and created for this just a building (league wonder) that decrease the effect of Global Warming.
But since this is still a work in progress, i might also add a freebuilding class to this building to get a bigger impact for the game.

It's an interesting question, and I may give it some more thought. iirc, modding in a completely new Resolution type required some changes to LeagueOverview and LeagueProjectPopup. Also there's the AI problem because there are no flavors for the resolutions... ug.

As this was my very first mod employing lua, it's pretty simplistic and provides absolutely no feedback to users other than the enigmatic. It could use some work.
