Concept Introductionary Folder/history.file

//As with the coming of the Dawn, the Globes, having lived in dark isolation for all memory, suddenly awoke. The black carpet was lifted by the new light; the Dawn had given the globits vision and eyes, now they could sense the world again. Traveling their black-clad soil, the globits settled in cities, beginning to live off the resources present in the Globe. They would soon expand the cities to a point they had never been before.

Concept Introductionary Folder/concept.file

//Welcome to my latest installment of a NES! This time, I am yet again playing with another direction. This NES will be focused around the two-dimensional (!) mass known as the "Globe". On this Globe, players each control a city and will use their globits (inhabitants) to harvest resources off the soil and prosper with profit into a higher state of existence. Much like civilization; but this NES is focused around resources, trade, production and goods. And no, I won't refrain from using silly names instead of serious ones (globits better suit this game design than population imo). All resources will be made up and as such will be used from only the experience acquired in this NES.

Concept Introductionary Folder/jointemplate.file

//While the rules aren't completely straight from my side yet, I still expect some people with the will to join, and I will not hinder them in doing so. :) Initially, a player will begin with a small food economy, with basic food production, one House (used to house globits), and one Tank (military unit used to control workers etc.). When the thread starts, I will start a secular "Marketplace" thread with the sole purpose of being a trade thread, if enough players have joined. The starting template will be formatted as:

Your city name here/your username
Description: A general description, if applicable, goes here.

//I have gained quite a good deal of motivation for this NES because of the curious thread replies, and I hope people are still intrigued with the general idea I have of this world. I hope people are willing to have as much fun as I hope to generate - I mean, produce, of course.

GOODBYE AND MAY DAS BE GOOD WITH YOU!!

sounds cool. what kind of description can we give to out city?

Absolutely no idea 8D I guess there's plenty of freedom. The execution of this game is pretty abstract after all, so you can talk about yourself in any way you want. :)

Doug's Town/Bil
Description: The people of Doug's Town are a short, squat folk with a commonly irritable personality that makes almost everyone annoyed at each other. The town was originally founded by a fellow named Doug, clearly, who "called dibs" on being in charge, and everyone reluctantly accepted. The establishment of society developed as an abstract concept, with bits and pieces thrown together hastily and without care, until a government (of sorts) formed: Doug was in charge until he died, and when that happens, whoever is first to find out that Doug is dead can "call Doug" and thus be in charge. The new leader's name is legally changed to Doug, and all the privileges and powers of being Doug are in their hands. Economically, Doug's Town is built on lies, where things are given an arbitrary value by Doug, often changing on whims or mis-remembered values, and the common folk immediately agree to it out of fear that, if they don't, society will collapse. Typically, the goal of every Doug is to gather as much real wealth as they can (behind the scenes, of course; there are no laws against Doug embezzling money), then faking their own death and escaping to some other town where they can live in luxury for the rest of their retirement. Most people are aware that the death is faked, though they can't say anything about it for fear of societal collapse (for if Doug was truly still alive, no one could call dibs on being Doug, and thus they would be without a leader and surely all die), so they go with the lie and assume Doug is really dead and then someone calls dibs. Most children are put to work at a young age doing menial labor, often relying on "found" equipment to perform their duties, until a position "opens up" in some fashion above them, and then whoever calls dibs first gets a promotion. Most of society is based around the idea of being in the right place at the right time.

Blasphemy/Diamondeye

The people of Blasphemy are cruel, selfish, wicked, bent and broken, but most of all, they're immoral. They are the peoples that have been driven from all other cities and societies, and making Blasphemy your home is a consequence of utter hopelessness, since by becoming a Blasphemer, you basically let go of any chance you might or might not have on being part of any form of respectable society. The Blasphemic society doesn't as much fit together naturally as it forced together by pathetic people who seek to share their despair and cruel people that command these pathetic people around to feel that they are at least in some position of power.

Any Blasphemer thinks first and foremost about himself, and everyone wants as much for themselves as possible. The national slogan is something that would roughly translate into "I'd rather be king in trash country than trash in king country."

Friendly reminder: Your culture won't reflect your eventual stats whatsoever.

Upton's Mills/Last Praetoria

Sitting astride a mighty ravine that would have once held a mighty torrent, Upton's Mills is a saddening collection of early industrial complexes. When the Dawn came and the globits were released from the darkness some of them stumbled into this decrepit existence. The old textile mills bore the faded name Upton and thus they were dubbed Upton's Mills. Never meant to be a permanent settlement, many of the globits left over the next few weeks. However, a few remained because they felt drawn to the ancient woods and covered bridges; the majestic houses with their dark-eyed stares, black and dismal yet not vacant, and of course the mills which crowned the hill. The mills with their dust and bits of machinery from the past. The mills, the harbingers of another people's folly. The mills spoke of Dusk and whispered of the alluring power of darkness, the power of fear. This is why some globits stayed. They were entranced; they believed that this was where the darkness had come to the globe and wished to understand its awful power; some wished to prevent its return and others to become its master and wield the darkness. None of the globits could have understood the nature of the ancient site which they had begun to inhabit. Upton's Mills had been abandoned centuries before the Night had fallen. The ancient powers of the place were indeed connected to the dark, to the Night that shrouded the world. Yet the powers at Upton's Mills were older still than that. They had seen many Nights and Dawns and the years seemed as days among the town frozen in time. And the globits began to eke out a living in the rocky soil that was parched when the river withdrew and the solemn trees that somehow continued to grow in the river's absence. The globits of Upton's Mills sought the secrets of the town and the town sought the globits. It sought to make them its pawns, to take what they could collect, and finally to take them.

Interested :)

Is the sphere being 'dug' into, or are the lines etc going 'over' the surface? Will aircraft/rockets be possible?

Statue's Rest/merciary
Generations ago people of this town found a exquisite carved face up upon a cliffside. As the people gather around in wonder at how this painstakingly craft statue could have gotten here a voice came out of nowhere. The people looked around in shock for where it could have come from, but there was nothing but the statue. The voice claimed that it was the statue and in fact was a God of the Earth and told the people that if they followed him he would lead them to greatness. Generations later the Statue is still leading these people and any who speak against it are meet with the wrath of stone.

Dragon Farm/Charles Li
These Globits have claimed to have tamed the dragons, and sell dragon scales as lucky charms, as well as a few 'staged' flights. The Rise of the dragon keeper charles, however, makes sure that their fire will be put to good use of all. (WARM MY TUB!)

I imagine digging personally; the world is two-dimensional after all. :) And yes, I plan to include a "Lab" building which allows players to experiment with resources (ie. inventing new resources, like tin+copper=bronze) and develop new product plans, such as aircraft and rockets, if desired. :) I like player freedom.

Muscovia/Daftpanzer
Description: an enlightened and peaceful people. However they have realised that there are other people in this world who are dangerous. Thus, the concept of the Tank has been born. Meanwhile, the intellectuals discuss the implications of living in a 2D universe, and others happily begin to explore the world for resources.

Kiijer/Ninja Dude
Description: Digging into the ground for wealth and resources to fuel their ambitious dreams dominated by the sky. As they dig down they reach ever greater heights, until finally up is down and down is up.

Colours/Seon

Very peaceful people albeit peaceful people who can defend themselves. They seek to fill the world with COLOR.

Tzavoya/TaylorFlame

Once a disillusioned and purposeless people, the Globits of Tzavoya have found a new zeal in life through their new-found love of machinery. With their lives being dedicated to the creation and use of progressively grander machines, they have found the need to bury deep into the earth to fuel their mechanical lust with new resources and money.
