I understand that if you start a nuclear war, you take a major rep hit and all other countries immediately go to war against you. What happens if you retaliate with nuclear weapons. I'm playing regent level and the Babylons (who are down to 1 city) have just nuked one of my cities. I haven't responded in kind (yet). Should I, or should I just try to take their final island stronghold, without going nuclear?

I do know that eliminating the final city of a CIV, you also take a rep hit, but they started the war (declaring on me) and are now at war with the other civs, who don't appear to really be doing anything about them.

best is to take it without killing any citizens, (no bombardment) but if its their last city, and they declaired war first + nuked.. just kill them off, if you bomb and finish them off in the same turn.. the citizens wont have enough time to get pissed at you, as once Baby's have gone, they are frogotten

i think

i didnt know that! i thought it was always good to finish them off so they are nolonger pissed off at me!

Is there no other civ in their neigbourhood? What i did was destroy all the units in the last city and the neighbouring civ just rampaged it.
But just out of curiosity, what was the outcome of the attack on your city (how many units dead, which ones, how many pop and what improvements destroyed)?

The city only had 1 Mech Inf and it survived. I don't remember exactly the number of civilians last, I think it was 6 or so. But I lost almost all the road/railroads around the city as well and pollution in all those squares. I just moved a bunch of workers to rebuild the roads so I can get more to clean up.

if i were you (you should never be me) i would take a positive and sensitive way to discuss the tension between the countries be positive but here is how you do what i say:

nuke them to hell:evil: :nuke:

No, you lost EVERY improvement on all 9 squares.

Playing a regent game this weekend (Maya) and far ahead of the 6 remaining civs in every respect I couldn't keep myself from turning the world into a smoldering mess before I lept for the stars.

First nuke went to the Zulu, who had BS'ed me, and Germany declared on me flat out. No MPP, no nothing. Then I took to nuking Germany which provoked the Russians. A nuke or two later and the Iroquois joined the club and then the Babs due to an MPP. Japan still worships me.

The Babs were my little lapdog left on my continent as I was practicing swallowing other civs via cultural (see Ank11 link below) assimilation. This one took me by surprize, although it shouldn't have, and they grabed two unprotected cities and burned a third to the ground. Some modern armor later and the Babs were a memory.

I'm now headed for the stars and have left the world to the mutants.

Nuke 'em till they glow and then shot 'em in the dark! :nuke: :nuke: :nuke:

if they're down to one city, then using nukes is probably overkill. i suggest mass bombardment.

If they've only got 1 left, I wouldn't waste a nuke on it. A nice large artillery stack, and pound 'em back to the stone age, right down to size 1, before taking what little remains.

BTW, I was launching the nukes when I knew that I was the only one in the world who could.

Bomb the city empty and take it w/ a warrior.

I would keep the last city, sign a peace treaty, get the world to sign trade embargos against them, suround the city with units so they can't escape. And then keep them as your plaything. Watch them slowly suffer from disease, famine, unhappiness. And if they don't suffer, it's nice to have a civ that knows that you can obliterate them at any second if they don't give you what you want.

Or on the other hand you could nuke em to hell. You already have a bad rep as it is, so why not make use of it. :D

That is something I tried. Even though their capital was captured and moved a number of times and they are now off by themselves on a 4 tile island, and I have but a city next to it, I have had 2 of their original cities FLIP. The first one had 2 Mech Inf Armies in it to handle the resistance. I had to attack again, and they had somehow gotten 3 units for defense. I didn't want to raze the city as it had a GW. I had knocked out all production to kill off the local population, but it hadn't killed that many yet. I didn't have settlers or workers from my Civ, locally to mix in. It would take me about 5 turns to move these people from the mainland to these cities. There can't be much culture left, but cities keep flipping, so I decided to finish the Babylons for good.

Yeah sometimes it doesn't work. But I did it with Rome once. They ended up with a huge army in there one city and were extremely polite with me even though I broke my mp with them. And ended up helping me destroy the Germans. And then I Declared war on Rome Signed a peace treaty giving me all the city's they had captured. And then broke the treaty the next turn and sent 3 ICBM's there direction and razed their city. :king: :satan:

Oh by the way. How do you cancle Mutual Protection Pacts & Right of Passage agreements peacfully?

@ynome

just nuke them to hell like i said since you said you already have a bad rep. or you could trap them like ping said and watch them suffer and have them as your puppet  (i would nuke them personally:nuke:)

Evil walks among us. ;)

You can cancel MPP's and RoP's peacfully only once the 20 turn agreement is complete. Prior to the 20 turns I think the only way to get out of the agreement to "till death or war do we part".

Once i got India declaring war on me. They had a huge stack of military heading for one of my city. I dropped a nuke on these units ON MY TERRITORY and the effect was the same as if i have nuked an indian city: Russians and Germans declared war on me, and India dropped all his nuclear arsenal on my cities (7 icbm - geez!).
Peaceful Gandhi?!?!?
