OOC: Just had to coem into the argument:
The sun is too small to be a supernova, ever. Period.

Nothing fired from Earth into the sun, not even if you turn all mass of the earth into one big nuclear bomb and throw it at the sun, it will not even tickle it. Same if you take all mass in the solar system except the sun... The sun is 999\1000 out of the mass in the solar system, the rest is 1\1000... It's NOTHING.

Getting out of the solar system in light speed will take several years. getting to another solar system will take even more. And you can't move in light speed, with regular missles it will take you hundreds of years to get to the nearest solar system...

Best you can do is find a way to make E=MC2 full. (nukes are only 1% of that E... try getting more %'s...)

The sun may not go supernova but it'll expand to engulf the Earth. Fire anti-matter into the sun and see what happens ;). Getting out of the solar system in light speed doesn't take several years, because it would take 4 yrs at light speed to get to Alpha Centauri. Who says you can't move in lightspeed? Just because it hasn't been discovered doesn't mean it is impossible.

Exactly but that damn anti-matter is so expensive like 25 billion $ per gram :)

Relax erez this all pre-update fun and joking.

this is a joke?!? damn!!

Ok, since I got a bad headache/migraine, the Update will not be today, but tomorrow.

I am working on it, just trying to deal with other crap as well on my day off. Time to sleep off a headache . . .

No it's just not achieveable yet.

World Weekly News, December 31st, 1982

Germany apologizes for Holocaust, builds memorial!

Germany has done something which nobody, in their wildest dreams, thought Germany would do, especially under the neo-Nazi Wolfgang Droeger, the current President of Germany. Germany has officially recognized the holocaust, officially recognized that Germany killed over 6 million Jews, Romas, Slavs, Homosexuals, and others. But Droeger did not stop there. Germany has gone a step further then a mere recognition, Germany has built a Memorial to the Holocaust, remembering the millions who died under Hitler's regime. The German Holocaust Memorial is a large Museum near Brandenburg, a notorious German Holocaust Camp, and it houses memories, photos, and interactive exhibits chronicling the horrors that millions suffered. Surrounding the museum, as you walk up to it, is a vast field containing a maze of raised Concrete platforms of various heights, the tallest being 4 feet, containing the names of millions of the victims. Droeger announced the plan in a speech to his neo-Nazi Heritage Front party, currently the German Government. He delivered it to a packed crowd of enthusiastic supporters, who expected a rousing speech of the glories of the German past, and the Glorious German Future. Needless to say, they were shocked when Droeger talked of the Holocaust. Droeger said that, “what Hitler and the Nazis did to those millions of innocents was not only wrong, was not only one of the greatest tragedies in the world, but it was the single event which lost World War II for Germany. The battle of World War II was decided by the brave and noble German Generals. The War of World War II was lost by ourselves, by our senseless hatred of Jews, Romas, and the like. We slaughtered Germans, proud German volk in those camps! We slaughtered those who had the intelligence to make Germany truly great! We slaughtered scientists, businessmen, we slaughtered our own citizens. It was a tragedy. To those who deny the Holocaust, you deny German. Holocaust Deniers are denying that Germany was defeated by the Holocaust, Germany defeated herself.” Droeger went on to say that the phrase Never Again should be a reminder that Germany cannot achieve greatness by shredding the very fabric of her society, such as the Holocaust did. Droeger went on to officially open the Holocaust Memorial, and met with prominent Jewish leaders. In fact, Droeger even made a trip to Israel, and apologized on behalf of Germany personally to the Israeli Prime Minister, and to Israelis. Israelis seemed somewhat skeptical, and all seemed very shocked, but Droeger has gone leagues to repaid relations with Israel, and many other nations around the world. Inside Germany, Germans seemed shocked, and some dismayed by the announcement, but Droeger, who is very popular in Germany, seemed to take the criticism of his actions in stride. He condemned those who criticized him as criticizing the future Greatness of Germany, and, even though his popularity has slipped, he recovered nicely, with a series of speeches and announcements remembering what he calls the positive side of Hitler and the Nazis, which was the Industrial, Technological, and Military boom in Germany. The buildup of the German Military has continued unabated, leading many to wonder why Droeger is pumping so much into his Military. Investors are returning to Germany, many pleased at his anti-Holocaust sentiments, and by the business incentives that Germany offers. Unemployment in Germany has hit its lowest level in decades, and, in fact, Foreign Workers are pouring into Germany at a rate of about 10,000 a year, looking, and finding, high-paying jobs.

Millions starve as famine grips Ethiopia

It was an event that nobody imagined would happen, and indeed shocked the world. In Ethiopia, news of a Famine, which had apparently been covered up by the Government spilled into the open, as Amnesty international released photos showing proof of the deaths in Ethiopia. Ethiopia apparently has been gripped by a famine, but the world, well, failed to notice. The Government was too pre-occupied conscripting all able-bodied Ethiopians into the Army, and quelling Ethnic tensions to pay any attention, and it was to their apparent shock that news of this famine came to light. An estimated 600,000 have died so far, mainly women and children, and another 2 million are set to die within weeks if more is not done. Relief Groups are scrambling to get food to the people, but bureaucratic wrangling, and the high cost of transportation are slowing things down. Amnesty reports that at least 2 eco in food is needed immediately, and more will be needed over the next 6 months to ensure that up to 5 million more do not die. This famine is one of the worst in the worlds, caused by persistent drought. The world needs to react to save lives, but will they?

Nunavut closes its borders, expels Foreigners!

Nunavut has gone into a period of isolation, expelling most Foreigners, except for essential diplomats, of course, and sealing its borders, the best it can, at least. Nunavut, the only nation in the world without a currency, and with the least infrastructure of any nation, is going through a period of isolation, as its leaders are taking increasingly radical steps to preserve traditional Inuit life, and are succeeding. WNN Reporters were allowed into Nunavut for an exclusive look at life there, and we found that people were generally happy as they went about their everyday life, sleeping in their igloos, and killing Cariboo and Polar bear for food. The only real contact with the outside world is the one phone line to the USA, and the trading times, when Cariboo and Polar Bear hides are traded for medicine with the USA, to Nunavut's South. This new policy has caused concerns about life in this Northern country, but many analysts say that the Leaders are worried about disruptions to the traditional way of life, and are afraid that Nunavut will be coerced into making deals for its natural resources, such as Diamonds, Gold, and Oil. Whatever happens, the Inuit people seems happy in their nation, and that is good enough, it seems, for the world.

Falklands develops first Operating System!

In more news about Computers now, the Falklands Islands has developed what is being hailed as the world's first Computer Operating System that the average person can use. This user-friendly OS is was developed by the high-tech Falklands, and is currently being adapted for the average home Computer, such as the Commodore 64, the highly popular first large-scale home computer. The FOS, as it is called, is very popular with users, although it is somewhat unstable, and Computer Users have complained that they cannot do much with their computers, with or without FOS. Software companies are scrambling to get programs to make computers more interesting for the common person.

CU Government on verge of collapse of Russian Scandal!

The Commonwealth Union Government is looking increasingly shaky, as the reports about the Prime Minister of this small country making secret plans with the Russian Federation to have the CU join the RF without the consent of Parliament or the Cu people continue to spill out. The governing had a large majority, but they have been badly hurt by this scandal, as public anger over the scandal escalates exponentially. At one point, riots were in the streets of major CU cities as citizens demonstrated their anger over the deal. 3 Died as a result of the riots, and dozens were injured, as effigies of the Cu Prime Minister and Russian President were burned. Polls indicate that only about 15% of the CU population would be in favor of discussing with Russia to have the CU be a member of the Russian Federation. The other 85% justifiably says that CU citizens have little in common with Russians, and are against being “Russian puppets like Australia”, claim the demonstrators. The Governing party maintains a slim majority, but 5 more MPs are expected to defect to the opposition Party shortly, which would mean that the opposition would make the Government fall with a Vote of Non Confidence. Many pundits warn that things will get worse if the Government doesn't pull itself out of this mess, and fast.

CU Supreme Court gives Maoris more land as compensation

In a unanimous decision by all 9 Supreme Court Justices, the Maori Indigenous people have been given a huge gift – mandated reservations for them to live their traditional ways by the Supreme Court of the Commonwealth Union. The Supreme Court unanimously condemned the Government for inaction, and being too slow to provide the Maoris with what they deserved for a long time. The Supreme Court has given the Maoris 6% of the land in the New Zealand part of the CU, and appointed a Special Commission to negotiate with the Government and the Maori as to which land they get exactly, including their pre-existing Reservations. Public Anger has arisen over this issue as well, and this issue, along with the Russian Scandal, has scared off investors, and led the CU economy to actually drop by 2 eco points.

War breaks out between India and UIS!

Everyone knew it was going to happen. Indeed, with the rhetoric on both sides, the border clashes, and the massive military buildups on both the Indian and Pakistani side, it seems impossible for those 2 nations to avoid war. And it finally happened, with the massive armies of both Pakistan and India swinging into battle. The question of who started it depends on who you ask. Pakistan claims India started it with the border clashes. India blames Muslim extremists for started it by detonating bombs in Northern India. Whomever started it, it doesn't matter anymore. What does matter is stopping this before the world gets pulled into a war which could kill millions. If the USE, China, or Russia get pulled into this battle, then this will turn global, and possibly nuclear. WNN Reporters have not been able to get close to the fighting, but what we know is gruesome. Massive armies of armed and angry Hindus and Muslims are attacking each other. Airplanes battle it out in the sky, tanks and machine guns on the ground. neither side can win, unless they use WMDs, and both sides have yet to do so. Both sides have used Conventional Missiles, and ICBMs, but some of those get taken down by the Russian ICBM Shield. The battle is one big battle of death, with passions and tensions way beyond the breaking point on either side. India, which has more missiles then the UIS, has targeted the prime Oil Fields and other key Industry of the UIS, and then the UIS responded in kind. There is no estimate of casualties available, the numbers that the WNN does have is merely a guess. This is a war over ideology, which neither side can win. The battle lines have roughly stayed the same, with the UIS making some inroads, at a heavy cost, into Kashmir, and India, at an equally heavy cost, into Pakistan. POWs have been taken by both sides, but Amnesty International reports, despite claims to the contrary by both sides, that they are not being that badly treated. Indians in the UIS and Muslims in India have been rounded up, and jailed, or declared POWs, not surprisingly.

OOC – I did not include exact numbers of casualties simply because, well, I don't believe it adds to the NES at all. Needless to say, several hundred thousand on each side died, and both sides lost hundreds of tanks, planes, and the like.

Secret nuclear Bunker found in the UIS!

In a shocking series of events, WMD Inspectors in the UIS, searching to see if the UIS has any WMDs, stumbled upon a secret bunker in the Saudi Arabian desert, acting upon an anonymous tip. The Bunker contains 5 completed Nuclear Weapons, and materials to build at least 10 more. Countries around the world have condemned the UIS for breaking their pledge not to have WMDs, but the UIS maintains that they knew nothing of this secret bunker, and have provided proof that nobody in the UIS knew of this bunker. Of course, now that the UIS is at war with India, they have a legitimate reason for having WMDs, that being to counter the India's supply of WMDs. Samples of the Plutonium taken from this bunker were analyzed, and found to have come from United Korea, the secretive Stalinistic Communist Regime. This leads many to suspect that United Korea is selling Nukes and the such to nations around the world for money. United Korea denies these claims, but failed to provide any convincing evidence that they in fact did not sell this plutonium and other materials to the UIS. The UIS has provided satellite photos of the site, which they claim shows that another foreign power, such as India or the USE, built this compound to make the UIS look like they were breaking treaties. We shall keep you informed as to how this story plays out. It should be noted that Inspectors found no nuclear Weapons, nor any Nuclear Weapons programs, anywhere else in the UIS.

Nuclear Bomb destroys London!

This is a dark day for the USE. A Nuclear Bomb, of a large size, about 5 Mt, as just totally destroyed, repeat, totally destroyed London. London is gone. This city, the pride and joy of the USE, who spent at least 9 eco to rebuild to its former glory, has been totally demolished. As the USE mourns, the question is who, and why. the why is easy, London has long been touted as USE politicians and leaders as proof of the invincibility of the USE, of the ability of the USE to rebuild. the who is the tough question. A few analysts point to the IRA, as part of their campaign for independence, but many doubt that, saying that the IRA know the wrath of the USE. Besides, they say, the IRA would not want to unnecessarily antagonize the USE into taking harsh actions against them. Other analysts point to Muslim extremists, in revenge for Spain's former colonization of north Africa, and alleged abuses by the USE against Muslims. The common thought is that this is Turkish Hardliners, angry at the USE for supporting their long-time enemy, Greece, in the case of Cyprus. but all analysts agree that they do not know who did this, and nobody has claimed responsibility. What is known is that the Plutonium came from Korea originally, and the bomb could have been manufactured in the secret warehouse recently found in the UIS, housing the secret Nuclear Weapons. Korea has denied responsibility, admitting that their plutonium was sold overseas, in part to Russia, and other Communist Coalition nations, and saying that it could have made its way into UIS hands. Korea has said that the USE Bourgeois deserved this, and events like that deserve to happen to evil Capitalists. The USE will harshly react against whomever committed this act, that is the only certainty in this story of death. Citizens of the USE were in mourning, and many were calling for unity in the face of whomever is trying to take apart their nation.

(-7 Industry, -London, -1 eco level, USE)

Irish Independence Campaign heats up!

The voices calling for unity in the USE was certainly not heard by the Irish, and by the Irish Republican Army, in their campaign for an independent Ireland. Sinn Fein, the political party closely allied with the IRA, walked out of the USE parliament, refusing to sit there, and have started a “Government in Exile” in Boston, in the USA, where there is a large population of Irish ex-pats. The attacks by the IRA have grown more vicious, and more bloody, by the day, with bombs going off, killing USE soldiers and police, almost daily. The USE army has increased its presence in Ireland a lot, but this has not seemed to help. About 89% of Irish demand their own state, and they are willing to kill themselves to achieve independence. Many Irish are sending their wives and children overseas, the vast majority to the USA, in order to keep them safe from the fighting. Funding for the IRA is mostly coming from Irish ex-pats in the USA, and no action has, or really can, be taken against that. The best efforts of the USE seem incapable of stopping this insurgency, and many in the USE are starting to feel that giving Ireland independence would be the easiest thing to do, to get this problem to go away.

Republic of Crete formed as UIS-USE war ends!

Crete is now an independent nation, and is the result of a peace treaty between the UIS and USE, ending the Cretian War, in which the UIS tried and failed to take over Crete for Turkey. This island is small, and its people bitterly divided, with 2/3 being Greek, and 1/3 being Turkish. The Parliament contains that same balance, and so the Greeks have had control of this nation. But ethnic tensions continue to boil over, with Bombs going off in the Greek side, which threatens the stability of this small and volatile nation. Analysts widely blame Turkish Hardliners, who opposed the fact that Greece controls, essentially, Cyprus. The new Crete Government has been very close to the Greek Government, dependent upon it for aid. This new nation remains very weak, but should survive, provided stability reigns once more here.

Finland headed towards Civil War as violence, assassinations start!

In Finland, things did not get much better. In fact, they got a lot worse. Finland is now headed towards Civil War, experts say, and that can directly be blamed on some high-states assassinations of right-wing leaders, who want Finland to be allied with Germany. Those assassinations triggered right-wing extremists to counter by killing the President of Finland, and his Cabinet members. This plunged Finland into several months of anarchy, until things calmed down enough to have elections. Russia publicly stepped in, and, along with International observers, held elections in Finland which saw a new parliament come along, with a 1 seat right-wing majority. This Government lasted for 2 months, until Socialists, unhappy with the policies of this Government, assassinated the president, yet again. Finland is now in the control of a Provisional left-wing Government, but is rapidly slipping into Civil War. The idea of a united Independent Finland seems not to be, and it seems that the country will split. Many expect Russia to take over Finland, or at least the Socialist half, but that would be a dangerous provocation to the right-wing forces, say experts. Whatever happens, the Finnish future looks dim, unless an agreeable compromise can be worked out.

Calls for Italian independence slow as propaganda hits home

In Italy, the forces calling for Italian Independence seem to be dissipating, as a massive Military Parade was held across Italy. With hundreds of thousands of soldiers marching through the streets, followed by tanks, planes, and marching bands, it was a day where National Pride seemed to take root in Italy. New Polls show that only 50% of Italians want Independence, as compared to 60% a couple years ago. That is a high number, but clearly it is slipping. One major factor might be London, and that nuke which has showed Italians that being their own nation might be a bit riskier then thought.

China joins the ranks of the Superpowers!

China has joined the elite club in the world, of achieving Superpower status. Experts agree that China has transformed itself successfully from a Communist Regime into a fully democratic nation. China's economy is booming, and China's cities rival those of Madrid, Rome, Moscow, or New York. China has a large Military, a huge landmass, and the world's largest population. China does face problems, particularly its millions of poor substance farmers that live in China's inland. They have felt left behind of the economic boom, but China is trying to start initiatives and projects to ensure that they can enjoy the new Chinese Productivity. China also faces continuing turmoil along its Indian Border, as India and the UIS go to war, this could destabilize the Indo-Chinese border. Another thorn in China's side is Korea, the secretive regime that borders China. But, China is the land of promise, and has nowhere to go but up. China does not face any active insurgencies, or violence, but does face a continuing strong Communist presence. Communist Groups in China have been hammering home the message to poor voters in China's Central regions that they will be better off under a Communist China. this is worrisome to Business, however, which would lose out if China became Communist again. The recent peace agreement between China and India is also being hailed by the Government as a step forward on the path to true peace in Asia.

Grecians protest against flood of Bulgarian Refugees!

Greece, who is still recovering over the Cyprus affair, faces a continuing problem that only seems to get worse. The flood of people fleeing the conditions in poverty-stricken Bulgaria continues, with about 30,000 people crossing the border illegally every year, and that number just continues to rise. Greeks are demanding action by the Greek Government, saying that Bulgars are taking away jobs from Greeks, albeit the lower-paying Jobs. Greeks are also demanding that the Grecian Government do more to help the poor in Greece. Poverty in Greece has never been exceptionally bad, but it is growing worse, and Greeks are demanding that something be done.

Bomb takes out Indian Embassy in FRSEA!

In a startling series of events, a Bomb, of fairly large size, has demolished the Indian Embassy in the FRSEA Capital City, totally taking it out. This has dramatically raised tensions between the 2 Indian neighbors, who were recently taking steps towards reducing tensions. About 60 Embassy Staff died in the Bombing, but some think that the Bomb might have been meant for the Government Building next to the Embassy, which looks quite similar. This was not the only violent attack in the FRSEA, a string of bombings and attacks against FRSEA buildings and Troops has been carried out by a shadowy Cambodian group demanding Independence. Pol pot, the accused leader, was released from Jail, but, after he made some anti-Burmese speeches, and demanding that the Cambodian Workers rise up against the Burmese Oppressors, he was quickly found guilty of Terrorism, and thrown back in jail. Cambodians have continued to protest, and demand his release, and demand their own nation. The FRSEA has tried to essentially bribe Cambodians by spending Billions to improve the Infrastructure in the Cambodian Region of the country, and jobs and the like, but this is creating a backlash by Burmese who accuse the Government of neglecting them. The situation is tense, and appears to be going towards Civil War between the 2 ethnic groups.

Iran condemns Israel as Israeli Economy Improves

The Hardline Iranian Government of Ayatollah Khomeini has officially condemned the nation of Israel as “occupying land that rightfully belongs to Muslims”, and demands that Israel return the land that it “illegally occupies”. Anger towards Israel has been growing recently by Hardline Muslims, who see Israel as not only occupying their land, but also making money off trade between the UIS and Europe that should rightfully go to the UIS. Nobody expects any actions to be taking place against Israel, however, as the UIS is generally on good terms with this Jewish state, and the majority of Muslims have no problem with Israel, in fact, many credit Israel with being an Arab Ally, as interesting as that might sound. Most say that the Hardliners merely want the land that Israel sits on, and Israel's fertile and prosperous cities and industries. Meanwhile, the economy of Israel continues to go up, as investors return to this small and prosperous nation following the end of the Cyprus War. The continuing threats by hardline Arabs is pretty much the only challenge facing Israel, that and some hardline Jewish groups who claim that Israel, according to the bible and other Religious Texts, should have much more land, all the way to the Euphrates in some cases, and have been quietly pushing the Government to acquire that land. The vast majority of Israelis are against that, however, not wanting a potentially devastating war over some vague references in centuries old religious texts.

Yugoslavians demonstrate for more Reforms, Democracy

In Yugoslavia, something that has not happened in a long time occurred recently – protests and demonstrations calling for more Democracy, and more Reforms. These protests did not actually condemn the Yugoslav Government, they merely called for the Government to introduce Democracy, and more Social and Economic Reforms. They pointed to Russia and China as 2 countries that shed their Communist past to become Democratic Powerhouses. The protesters only numbered about 100,000 strong, but it was a demonstration of how Yugoslavia seems to be shedding its Communist past, and embracing Democracy.

Korean, Japanese navies clash as Refugees try to escape Korea!

Another war seems to be on the horizon in Asia as the Korea and Japanese Navies clashed over the issue of refugees. The number of refugees fleeing the isolated Stalinist Communist Regime has almost stopped, but about 5 boatloads a year still try and make it, usually in foggy conditions. The Japanese navy has adapted a policy of rescuing those refugees, while the Korean navy has a policy of killing them in full site. Well, these policies clashed recently, as Korean ships, pursuing a Boat full of Refugees, ran into some Japanese ships, who rescued them. The Koreans demanded their return, but the Japanese ships refused. Koreans fired in the Japanese ships, who returned fire. When the dust settled, the superior Japanese ships sank 3 Korean Destroyers, and 2 of their Battleships, as well as 4 Submarines. The Koreans managed one of the Japanese elite Shurikens, at a heavy cost, and a Japanese Destroyer. Hostilities remain high, and the 2 Navies have backed off, but the situation is very tense. Koreans claim the Japanese are preparing for an invasion of Korea, and have increased their readiness. Korea says they will detonate a Nuclear Bomb sometime soon to show their resolve, and are demanding 2 ecos in compensation from Japan. Japan is refusing, which caused the Koreans to start putting out propaganda promising that Japanese would soon feel what it is like to abused in War time by Korean troops, indicating that Korea might try an invasion of Japan. Japanese are reacting by demanding that their Government stand up to the cowardly Communists, and ensure that the Japanese Army and Navy is able to meet the Koreans, and be ready for a battle. It seems that these 2 nations might be on the course to a long, and bloody, war. Investors have not reacted to the move, but many expect them to leave Japan if a war breaks out, which could have a negative effect for the Japanese Economy.

Muslim Insurgency in Philippines boils over as Philippines allies with India

Just when the world thought that the Muslim insurgency in the Philippines was over, or at lest dying down, they were proven wrong. Very wrong. When the Philippine Parliament voted to declared war on Pakistan, and ally themselves with the Indians, whom the Muslims detest with a vengeance. While the President didn't sign the decree, it didn't matter to the Muslims. They were incensed anyway that this proposal was even being considered. Hardline Muslim Clerics in the Philippines quickly fanned anti-Filipino anger and hatred, which caused Millions of Muslims in the Philippines to take up arms, and fight against the “Filipino Oppressors”. They are demanding their own state, and promise “bombs, bricks, and Bullets” if that doesn't happen, and fast. Already, they have started a very violent campaign of attacking Philippine Officials, which has caused the Filipino Army to increase their presence in the majority Muslim areas.

Ivory Coast AIDS Drug Finished!

In a very positive development for the Ivory Coast, they have completed their long-awaoted AIDS Drug. This is an Anti-RetroViral Drug, which does not cure AIDS, but slows it down, and allows those who takes it to lead a more normal life, although they must take large quantities of these very expensive Pills for the effects to be noticed. Also, very few can afford these Pills, and their effects are worthy, but, for the cost, not affordable for many Africans. Also, large Drug Companies hold the patents to these drugs, and can charge exorbitant fees for them. but, all in all, this is a positive achievement for the War on AIDS.

Pope calls Contraceptives “Tools of the Devil”

Pope John Paul II, known for his Conservatism within the Roman Catholic Church, has made a bold and controversial stand on the issue of contraceptives, particularly condoms. He has denounced them as “Tools of the Devil meant to halt the natural birth of children on Earth”. This has fairly wide-spread support in the Roman Catholic Community, but many others condemn his stand, denouncing him for helping to spread AIDS. One of the most common ways that AIDS is spread it through unprotected sex, along with using dirty needles. AIDS continues to spread throughout Africa, killing hundreds of thousands a year.

AIDS Spreads to South America, Asia!

AIDS has spread to Asia and South America! In startling news, doctors have found that AIDS is showing up in impoverished areas of Brazil, and Argentina, and in Russia, India, and China. It is most common in the poor areas, where drug users are found, and brothels, and prostitutes. This virus spreads through the Blood, and essentially shuts down the Immune System, making the infected person susceptible to other vaccines and ailments. No cure has been found, but Anti-RetroViral Drugs can slow down the rate of infection, and extend the infected persons life.

Crime, Drugs, Gangs, Corruption continues to haunt Russia

Russia is facing an ongoing problem of crime. Crime continues to rise, especially violent crime, and robberies, making some parts of Moscow, and other large cities, very scary places to be at night. Gangs, like the Mafia, haunt Russia as well, selling Drugs like Heroin and Cocaine, to infect increasingly large numbers of Russians, especially the youth. They initially hand the drug out for free, and then charge exorbitant fees for it once the person is addicted. Then the addicted person must resort to crime to pay for the drug, since the average Russian cannot afford the fees by the Gangs and Criminals. Russian politicians have been slow to act, mainly due to corruption, many say. The Gangs can bribe Russian officials to turn a blind eye to the drug trade with the massive profits they make. Especially Regional Governments are very corrupted by the wealth available to these Gangs, and thus slow to crack down.

Anti-Russian anger in USA continues to build

In the USA, the political times are very turbulent, as anti-Russian anger continues to build over the continued Russian Restrictions on the size of the American Military, and continued Russian Occupation of Alaska. Democrats have taken up the anti-Russian cause, which has caused popular support for them to skyrocket, while public support for the governing Republicans continues to drop ahead of next years election. Democrats are demanding that America take a hard line with Russia, and accept nothing less then Alaska back, and all restrictions lifted on American Armed Forces. If the election was held today, Democrats would win by a landslide. The proposed Treaty between the USA and Russia would see the USA pay 10 eco for Alaska, not be able to station troops there, and allow Russia to maintain troops on Alaska. Americans are against that by a wide margin, stating that Russia already sold Alaska to America under the Treaty of Alaska, signed back in the 1800s. In fact, the Democrats have used that Treaty to their advantage by pressing Republicans on the issue, and stating that a Democrat Government would not let Russia dictate to America what America will do. Americans are also bitterly opposed to the clause in the agreement stating that the USA cannot interfere in Middle East actions. They demand that this be removed, and that Russia stop imposing her will on America. While the polls say that Americans, by over 80%, are against the Russian Restrictions, and Occupation, far less, about 50%, want a war to remove those Restrictions, remembering what happened the last time that occurred. The situation remains tense, and a backlash against the Americans is occurring in Russia, as Russians state that Americans cannot be trusted to have WMDs, or a large military, and that Alaska was never sold to the USA, merely leased, and that lease is now over. Russians are opposed by about 70% to giving back Alaska or lifting the Restrictions on the USA.

African Federation turns Fascist, invades Nigeria!

The African Federation has turned into a Fascist Nation, electing the Fascist African Union as their Government. This stunned the world, and lead more nations to refuse to recognize the African Federation as a legitimate Government. But the AF did not stop there, it launched an invasion of Nigeria, in an attempt to get it back. However, the Nigerians seemed ready and prepared for such an invasion. Mines were laid out in the coast surrounding Nigeria, making it very difficult for the AF ships to land troops. once they did, they were met with a hail of bullets, reminding some of the D-Day invasion by the Allies of Germany. But, in this case, it was the Fascists invading the Democracy. Once they weaved their way past the heavily mined Coast, taking quite heavy casualties, they landed, and faced a virtual wall of bullets. The African Federation has progressed, taking some land in Nigeria, but facing murderous losses. they have a larger army then Nigeria, a much larger one, but they are facing, in some parts, a scorched earth campaign, where the Nigerians fight to the last man, at times, and then leave nothing but scorched ground behind. The AF advance has slowed to a crawl, as they fight for every inch. the fighting is extremely bloody, and it is clear no winner will come out of this. Nigerians remember what happened when the AF tried this last time, and are vowing to not be VXed almost to extinction again. The AF must win this to show that they are still the rulers of South Africa, but they are not, and cannot, unless WMDs are used. Other nations are said to be helping the Nigerians, but no reports of any aid. Given the nature of the fighting, the following are only estimates of the deaths. Also note that the estimates of the Volunteers and Conscripts should used as very rough estimates only. The AF economy has suffered as Foreign investors flee the new Fascist Regime for more stable nations with more sane leaders.

(Nigeria: 50,000 Infantry, 2 Destroyers, 200 Tanks, 60 Fighters, 70 Interceptors, ~400,000 Volunteers; AF: 540,000 Infantry, 560 Tanks, 70 Fighters, 100 Interceptors, 60 Bombers, 5 Destroyers, 4 Battleships, 7 Cruisers, 300,000 Conscripts)

I think millions is a little bit of a overstatement,
For example currently (2005) there are only about 4 million muslims total in The Philippines (acording to the CIA). So back then only about 3 or so muslims would be around and i doubt that all the women and children would be taking up arms.

OOC: Well, with India's genocide of muslims back in this nes it'll make sense for your muslim population to have increased....

Plus, in times of stress, people seem to breed like rabbits.

IC:

to The Phillipines,

Malaysia would like to offer their services to mediate a peaceful solution between the government of The Phillipines and the Muslim seccessionist group.
