The Islamic Revolution
President Abdul Sadiq stood on a large podium in Sheraz Square, Tehrans largest square. President Sadiq was also an Ayatollah. He was a deeply religious man, but a very fair man at the same time. In front of him, hundreds of thousands of Iranians stood outside, shouting Allah Akbar! and Long live Iran! in Persian. The Ayatollah gave a hint of a small smirk. The Iranian people had survived Arab conquest, the Mongol Rampage, and now, the Iranian people had survived nuclear war. He was happy, but he was not surprised.
Over 1300 years ago, Islamic armies from the west invaded our ancestors lands, our homeland. Over 1300 years ago, Arabs from the west saved us and our ancestors from the hellfire. Over 1300 years ago, Arabs from the west gave us the Islamic identity we hold and cherish to this day. For this, we are grateful to them. The Arab empire, ruled by the Umayyad Dynasty, was the largest state in history up to that point. The Persians and Arabs were united. But then what happened? Both of our peoples fell to human weaknessses. We began arguing over who should suceed the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) One group supported Hazrat Ali, the son-in-law and cousin of the Prophet. Another group supported the Prophets closest friend and companion, Abu Bakr. Abu Bakr suceeded the Prophet (PBUH) and became the Islamic worlds first Caliph. But what happened? Hazrat Ali allowed Hazrat Abu Bakr to become the Caliph. It was we, the people, who chose to fight among ourselves. How could our ancestors do this? Were they fools? My fellow Muslims, today I will say something that no man in Iran has had the courage to say before. Our ancestors were fools. Anyone who utterly destroyed the unity we Muslims had at one time was a disgrace to Islam. My fellow Muslims, look at where we are today. The Muslims have fallen to western powers. The entire Middle East was occupied by the British for years. The holy lands of Saudi Arabia are now under Spanish occupation. This is a disgrace. WE ARE A DISGRACE. OH MUSLIMS, UNITE! On this day, I proclaim that we shall break the differences between Muslims. We are not Shias. We are not Sunnis. WE ARE MUSLIMS. On this day, I proclaim that there shall no longer be a sect called Shiaism in Islam. On this day, Sunnis are Muslims. Shias are Muslim. We are Muslims, we must unite together. We must be able to face the task that confront us. Make no mistake about it, we will. We will overcome. As your leader my people, I will work to unite all of the Muslims, all around the world. Then, the President picked up a Quran, and said You have my word.
Today, the Islamic Revolution begins! The President walked off the podium.
The crowd roared. Never had there been such a response to such a revolutionary speech. Iranians in the crowd were utterly surprised. They had found the man to lead them through these perilous times after the Shah was killed in the nuclear war. They had found the man who would do wonders.
The President took a deep sigh. Allah, give me strength, for I shall need it.
Peaceful Iranians listen to their President.
The President speaks to the crowd.
The crowd surrounds the President.
